20,000 miles on our early built 2017 Pacifica Limited. It’s been a very solid and reliable vehicle so far. Before that we had a 2015 Odyssey Touring...also a good vehicle, but the Pacifica Limited offered soooooo much more. As for the new Odyssey, I like it, but I still feel it falls short to the Pacifica for tech and interior. Reliability, well I’m not gonna argue Honda’s reliability, but so far our Pacifica’s been great. Tri-pane pano roof, 20spkr HK audio, full range adaptive cruise, LED interior lighting, dual blu-ray screens....stuff like that ain’t gonna happen on the Odyssey.
I love how he is comparing a 2017 Pacifica and 2018 Odyssey. A whole lot changes in a year of a production car. I personally have owned two town and countries and one Pacifica and right now I'm driving my brothers 2017 Odyssey, for over two months. I am not going to bash the Honda, but if you want comfort and just that cool factor, I'll tell you that you wont get that from the Honda. It's a fantastically put together car and it does everything that it says it does. and it does it well, but when you buy a car for that much money you want something else that functionality cant buy. You sit higher int he Pacifica, you have more space, the front seats are so much more comfortable, the arm rest is just right, the leg room is better, the trim looks nicer, the cabin is so much more quieter, the stereo is louder, the bass is more thumpy, the ride is 100 times more comfortable and there so much more that you cant understand unless you owned both. It feels more like a car rather then a tin can. I don't know how else to put it. Its just so different to drive and be in. You really need to check it out, or just drive it and you''ll see what I mean.
Thank you for putting the Canadian as tested prices as well! That’s actually a huge help (since often the pricing in Canada isn’t just an exchange rate difference that would be easily calculated). Iwish all reviews did that.
Guess what!! Hondas survive longer.. somebody showed a video in June/July showing broken stuff even though they got in December.. we a a 2015 odyssey and the only bad thing is the sunroof.. (his screen and the power sliding doors were broken)
No this is a battle Odyssey: HAW HAW! Pacifica: Hehe I’m in danger!! That’s the story of how bad a Pacifica is! Plus the second row seats are less comfortable
The vehicle pictured is not wrong there, it's actually the caption that is wrong. Those are the fuel consumption ratings for the Pacifica (you can tell because even though the EPA ratings are the same 19/28/22 mpg for both vehicles, the Canadian rating for the Pacifica are slightly higher at 12.9/8.4/10.9 L/100 km). Sorry about that!
Our Pacifica is too low to the ground. In 6 months of ownership, we had to repair/replace 2 bumpers and these computerized air shutters that break off when you scrape the front bumper. Cost us over $2000.00 to fix both times. This last time the shutter thing rubbed through the air conditioning condensor-we have no air conditioning. Don't buy if you live in a hilly area! Or get a lift kit for it!
I would like to see this guy making the same comparison after 5 years of use. Reliability is the number one thing that someone should buy a Honda. To me it’s very annoying to go to mechanic to fix stuff even if it’s under warranty. Who has time for that ?
In Ontario if you get the Pacifica plug in, you get a huge government incentive which brings he cost lower than even the odyssey. The plug ins come fully loaded. I’d go Pacifica
chrisdblue paid for by the wonderful people in the great province of Alberta and Saskatchewan cause we all know Ontario’s government is so broke your grandkids will be paying it off... or should I say the grandkids of western Canadians
If you live in the city, or if your commute is not too long, maybe... But actually, with FCA reliability issues and their tendency to release technology way before it's reasonably reliable, I'm VERY skeptic about any of their products, especially one as expensive as a plug-in vehicle that will depreciate at FCA speed (fast fast fast).
The hybrid tech is mature. FCA made its first hybrid around 2008, IIRC. The depreciation is not as bad as it seems. It is calculated off MSRP and doesn't account for the discounts, which are quite sizeable for the gas version.
You lease a Pacific & buy an Odyssey. In the states a Pacific Plug In Hybrid is much cheaper if you make enough to milk the full Federal Tax Credit + any state incentives.
Pacifica sounds nicely optioned and even has a better looking front end, in my humble opinion. But Honda is proven reliability. Pacifica at your own risk.
The Pacifica and Odysee are both ranked in the top ten to go over 200,000 miles. The difference is negligible. It is funny, nobody wants to admit Chrysler makes a good product, the Pentistar engine is reliable, powerful and lasts forever. The oddysee is known for bad transmissions, costly repair.
Honda you could drive for a year straight never need any repairs except oil changes, and maybe brake pads after 40k. Leave it running and never shut it off. It will be fine It’s a Honda
Since families buy minivans, giving more credence to the stow and fold seats is pretty ignorant. Why? Because you will never fold your second row into the floor. Plus, those seats are not comfortable for adults on a long road trip. They are very thin given that they have to stow into the floor. And the most important test for most buyers is how easy is it to configure multiple car seats/booster seats in the car. Almost endless possibilities in the Odyssey where it's a pain in the Pacifica to have multiple options to configure the seats, but also just installing them. lastly, the Odyssey gives you an actual middle seat in the second row a grown adult can fit in.
Odyssey. Rated best in class, and best buy. Also, very refined and you won’t have as many issues as it ages. Safety is also better. A Type R Odyssey would be pretty cool.
Toyota4Life Everyone has their opinions. But for me, yes better than Pacifica but definitely not better than Odyssey. Sienna is getting old and a new face is not gonna suffice. It badly needs a new update.

Pick the Honda. Service alone makes up for any advantages you may see in the Chrysler. Trust me. I bought a 14 Chrysler minivan.... check engine light. 6 months later. Chrysler couldn't fix it. Electrical Gremlins. Warranty DENIED. Jiffy Lube Oil changes not acceptable.. seriously. I'm out 17k. The van was dead at 35k miles. UPDATE: After about a year and getting lawyers involved to get Chrysler EU to honor the warranty the dealer finally found out what was wrong. Bad Cam (Lost magnetism). Look at that.. the oil didn't do it. Long year without the family car. Only lost a year of depreciation and received a year of headaches dealing with this nightmare. Van is now sold. To give credit Chrysler US decided to pick up the bill eventually.
No they're not, as long as they are properly maintained they will last forever. I have one with almost 300,000 miles on it. Take care of your vehicle, change your oil and tranny fluid when it's supposed to be changed and change your timing belt and water pump about every 70,000-100,000 miles and you'll never have an issue
I'm on my third Town & Country and will soon be leasing my fourth. In 9 years (three minivans) not one single problem. The most trouble free autos I've ever owned in 55 years of driving.
I like how everyone comments on Honda reliability when both vans have had their issues.. family friends have a 2017 Pacifica and they’ve had zero problems.
Pacifica Seats are wonderful Maybe u should install in ur living room while it’s in dealership trying to figure out transmission slamming into second gear and the crankshaft that they did not balance properly which causes stalling while driving down road Software updates have fixed some issues however if u want to drive and put 100k in a year or to without problems I’d recommend Honda. Reliable safe and doesn’t need weekly dealerships or repairs.
Oh btw when it stalls and u can’t restart on highway I hope you can get off road safely. The many options and wonderful features don’t not correct engineered problems with no easy fix New engine with balanced crankshaft. One year old junk Thanks Chrysler go get another bailout and make some more crap that the consumer gets stuck with
Really? Odyssey's aren't what they used to be. Back from a few years ago where they were being hit with transmission issues to now: www.al.com/business/2018/10/consumer-reports-drops-honda-odyssey-from-recommendation-over-reliability-issues.html
The reliability ratings for the Pacifica are really good and actually might even be better than the Odysseys. The Odysseys aren’t as reliable as they used to be.
I would pick the Odyssey because my aunt got a Pilot a year ago to replace her ‘09 GMC Acadia, and so far, her Pilot has been very reliable, has not broken down, and now I know I can trust Honda, I hate Chrysler because my mom had an ‘08 Town & Country and when the AC broke she took it to the dealer to get that fixed and the service people dropped something in the engine which broke it, so she had to take it back to get a new engine installed for like $900, and there was always a problem with it, so it was a little unreliable, and before we sold it, we thought the engine was gonna blow again, but it didn’t, then my mom sold it and bought a brand new 2015 Prius, and that’s why I’d choose a Honda Odyssey over a Chrysler Pacifica
I'm not sure what you mean by The Odyssey not slowing down to a stop. My adaptive cruise control will cover any speed from a complete stop to 90 miles an hour.
I don't drive but just watching the first part. The blind spot because of the pillars in the very back is gotta be ridiculous but then again blind spot monitoring does help I guess. The Pacifica
I've owned exclusively Hondas and Toyotas for the past 20 years (still have an accord). In the minivan lease market the Honda is waaaaaaaay overpriced. Go ahead and price a lease, they want over $600 a month with $2k down. We took the plunge on the Pacifica and left the brand, love it so far. Fit and finish on the Odyssey is behind the Pacifica and electronics absolutely suck in the odyssey compared to the Pacifica. Pacifica feels much more nimble too, Honda is clumsy and too large. Reliability remains to be seen, but I leased so not as worried. Honda probably wins there most likely, but we will see. BTW, the vacuum in the Pacifica actually works, and works REALLY well.
I disagree with the pacifica's handling. I find it handles great! They tested the model with the 20" wheels and I have the 18" wheels and I found the 20" wheels made the pacifica handle worse in my eyes.
This video sounded like a biased review favoring the Pacifica; then I saw several AutoGuide sponsored videos for the Pacifica, so I guess FCA's money was well spent.
I've tested both, I choose the Honda. Also anyone mentioning AWD in a minivan, Toyota didn't go 100% with it, you need run-flat tires (which cost more / have a more harsh ride and this all amplifies if you're going to consider snow tires....)
IMO the Pacifica looks way better inside and out with better tech but FCA has the worst quality in the auto industry while Honda is one of the best so i'd have to go with the Odyssey. If FCA could get the quality up then i'd give then a serious look.
If u would do ur research u would actually find out that the only issues with the pacifica are actually in the infotainment center Nothing with the powertrain out anything else. Odyssey has had a history of transmission failure so...
Because the Honda has the middle seat on the 2nd row it has more capacity. If you were to use the minivan to carry teens and adults that middle seat comes in very handy. Something I never understood why FCA never added one in any of their past minivans.
Hard to choose between them. Oddessy likely gets better reliability scores from CR but the Chrysler minivan is a pretty important market for them so I would think they want to get things right.
I wonder how many times the Chrysler will be in the shop before things like folding 2nd row chairs, the Hondas shifter design, and the fact that it is barely slower than the Chrysler.... well, at least with folding in the second row when it most certainly breaks down away from home, which it most certainly will, you'll have a little bigger area to rest or sleep while waiting for tow truck after tow truck....
Of course most of you guys would pick the Odyssey I would pick the Pacifica my family hasn’t had issues with their vehicles my grandparents owns 300c they have traded the 2014 T&C for a 2017 Pacifica Limited my mom owns a 2016 200s my mom loves Chrysler but soon I think she might get the 2018 Genesis G80 Sport but overall we love the FCA products.
Lavonte A , Well most of us want something reliable that does not break down every single day ( Chrysler is what I am talking about in being super unreliable )
As I now own the newest Odyssey and have to drive a loaded Pacifica for the week there’s absolutely no doubt the Honda is far superior across the board. Don’t get me wrong. The Pacifica is nice, but the Odyssey is like the minivan you actually want to drive. The Odyssey is quite a bit quicker and having paddle shifters and sport mode turn it into a rocket ship. The seats in the 2nd row are far superior and wider. The drivers seats fits me like a glove all the way to my neck. The dash layout is much more intuitive and it looks more high-end. If you appreciate well built cars there’s just a whole different level of refinement these guys at TFL I don’t think even notice. I think driving trucks they don’t notice the differences which to me are significant. Glad I got to drive the Pacifica, but I want me Odyssey back.
Interesting....was it a Pacifica Limited you drove? Reason I ask is because the Pacifica Limited has a much nicer interior and tech and I feel the Pacifica is nicer across the board.....and yes we live Honda vehicles and have owned a previous gen Odyssey.
Your comparison doesn't take into account the fact that you can buy the Pacifica for much less than the sticker price. I purchased my Pacifica Limited with an MSRP of $49,200 for $40,400 in Arizona.
So what seat options are available? Many minivan buyers are actually senior citizens and they don't give a rats ass about bluetooth connectivity. Up to half of them have bad backs and this is especially so on a long drive. SO WHAT SEAT OPTIONS ARE AVAILABLE?
Our 2016 Kia Sedona SX will use 12.5L/100km all city driving with a 3.3L and a 6-speed. It's a dream to drive and all optioned up the same as other brands, it was several thousand dollars cheaper. 67,000 km and our only complaint is the crappie infotainment system. There also appears to be a defect in the front drive axles as we are ready for the 5th pair. All under warranty and under investigation by Kia Canada. It's been a stellar vehicle and we don't regret the purchase.
Pacifica better looking and stow and go is the deal breaker, the mid seats might be a little more comfortable but I'll take the ability to store them in the floor
Wait for another 4-5 years and we will know if Chrysler have reliable enough minivan. It is not going to be as hard to kill as Sienna for sure. May be as reliable as Odyssey which has some serious problems too. Burning engine oil, broken transmission, etc.
I have a Accord and I love it but the oddesy is too ugly inside and out also the stow and go seating is a better in the pacifica, do you want to drag big heavy seats out and store someplace? Either one is a good choice if it fits what you need and like!
My wife is going to have twins sometime around june so I'm really interested in getting either a minivan or a SUV/Crossover... although for practically i would prefer a minivan. Anyone knows a great practical minivan with low maintenance? I'm thinking about getting the Pacifica.
George W. Bush if you can afford it go with odyssey elite...sow hole your driving you can look at your screen cause it has a camera that can look down on them it’s nice just look at some of the other videos on UA-cam because it’s has nice features
George W. Bush the Pacifica is also super nice......it’s just all in opinion but the odyssey has more useful features...and the Pacifica has feature that you might both want and what you need......really it’s just all bout which one you like better
I have twin toddlers and we love our 2017 Pacifica. I can watch them from a mirror right by the rear view mirror. We have a lot of space even for guests who want to ride with us. Once we had to add 2 more carseats...no problem! It looks so slick and with so much power it doesn't feel like I'm driving a van.
So to get soft touch dash in the Pacifica, you have to spend 60k? I went to the dealership today, and was not terribly impressed with hard plastic dash that comes on lower trim level Pacifica. And that was 43k. Am sure its a nice driving van, but not for the money being asked for it.
Honda's reliability has been going down for years with the Odyssey leading the way. I was shopping vans and all the complaints I read about the Odyssey lead me to steer clear.
Lol I'm actually dead, he said the Pacifica is faster when Honda is pushing towards more sporty minivans. Then he said that car play and Android auto are not standard on the odessey the hell it's not get your crap together.😂
AutoGuide.com hahaha yes complementing your work. The segment is unfortunately limited. These basically are your only choices. All very similar offerings. I don't see anyone who.doesnt already have a mini van buying on if these.
nothing about ride quality over broken pavement? a lot of us live out in the sticks with busted up roads, so ride quality is an important consideration.
I don't trust the accuracy of the on-board computer when it comes the MPG. My '18 Civic is about 3 MPG optimistic compared to the good 'ol trip odo mileage divided by the gallons of gas.
Holy shit. If you're having trouble deciding which of these two vehicles to purchase, then you probably have a very good life. But who am I to judge first world problems.
2 words - questionable reliability. Do we even need to go past that. It's a Chrysler product, they cheap out on the important things. Guaranteed you replace most of the front suspension components before you hit 100,000 miles.
But then CR rated the Pacifica reliability to avg if not a little better though? I remember hearing edmunds saying that their long term pilot has to replace their tranny because it was making noises and it’s the same one used in the Pacifica. Even though this odyssey uses the Honda’s in house 10 speed I’d still rather wait till they work out the glitches
20,000 miles on our early built 2017 Pacifica Limited. It’s been a very solid and reliable vehicle so far. Chrysler is famous for way worse reliability than the honda. And that 9 speed in the Pacifica is notorious for being a piece of trash
I’d go Pacifica! Though the Odyssey looks amazing.
The odyssey is a great van but the screens in the back for passengers in the Pacifica is a great idea to keep people entertained while on long trips
Very well done and I agree with you the pasifica is better well done and looks way better inside and outside 👍
They should put the hellcat motor in the Pacifica xD

Pacifica would need to switch to RWD

Terrific review. Thx!
Both need AWD!
Snow tires can do what AWD cannot
I'd prefer FWD + snow tires as AWD will eat up more gas.
JUMP23MΔN that's why you have the sienna .
JUMP23MΔN agree
More to the point, the Sienna needs a complete redesign. The current generation is in its eighth year!
Exactly!
Pacifica won against the Sienna in a separate comparison as well
my question is the following in the vehicle parts which is more effective over time ??
I've tested both, I choose the Honda. Also anyone mentioning AWD in a minivan, Toyota didn't go 100% with it, you need run-flat tires (which cost more / have a more harsh ride and this all amplifies if you're going to consider snow tires....)
Congrats on your Honda! Thanks for watching!
Pacifica is way ...WAY better looking.
Haha a good looking minivan
That is why you will buy an Odyssey!
Pacifica looks better. Chrysler wins.
Disagree. I think the Pacifica looks like an egg. I prefer the aggressive styling of the Odyssey.
Odyssey always had an edge with the quality of its interior materials but i think Chrysler is finally beating Honda at their own game
FCA needs to build a Hellcat Pacifica, then we'll talk.
What about the spare tire?
It's hard to beat the stow and go design. I'd have a flat screen on the back hatch that would fold down for a parked party..
you guys are showing "Odyssey..." in text when talking about chrysler MPG (3:45), and showing pacifica at 7:40...
7:39 Talking about the Odyssey, shows clip of the Pacifica driving by... 🤔
Pacifica is the best minivan on the planet
IMO the Pacifica looks way better inside and out with better tech but FCA has the worst quality in the auto industry while Honda is one of the best so i'd have to go with the Odyssey. If FCA could get the quality up then i'd give then a serious look.
If u would do ur research u would actually find out that the only issues with the pacifica are actually in the infotainment center Nothing with the powertrain out anything else. Odyssey has had a history of transmission failure so...
very detailed
Because the Honda has the middle seat on the 2nd row it has more capacity. If you were to use the minivan to carry teens and adults that middle seat comes in very handy. Something I never understood why FCA never added one in any of their past minivans.
It's an option, but they don't offer the 8th seat AND the panoramic sunroof because there's nowhere to anchor the middle seat belt.
Hard to choose between them. Oddessy likely gets better reliability scores from CR but the Chrysler minivan is a pretty important market for them so I would think they want to get things right.
Odyssey is much better
Worse transmissions
So glad to see American auto catching up to the Japanese.
Odyssey of course
Lavonte A how about Jeep you have any experience with it?
CKPHH Yes I have had tried out the Grand Cherokee and Cherokee I love both of them but instead I didn’t get a car from FCA
Lavonte A i like the Wrangler but dont know if it will hold up well
CKPHH wranglers are known to hold up well and there resale value is spectacular
Lavonte A , Well most of us want something reliable that does not break down every single day ( Chrysler is what I am talking about in being super unreliable )
The Pacifica hybrid is the true star. After incentives it is cheaper than non-plug in version.
Then why is the odyssey still the best selling minivan in America seems like family’s like the odyssey better.
I looked at both of them yesterday, bought the Pacifica sport
Chrysler vs Honda is this video really needed? There is no competition. Its would have something to talk about of Kia Sedona was reviewed with Honda
Your comparison doesn't take into account the fact that you can buy the Pacifica for much less than the sticker price. I purchased my Pacifica Limited with an MSRP of $49,200 for $40,400 in Arizona.
What happened to the video quality around the 7 minute mark?
So what seat options are available? Many minivan buyers are actually senior citizens and they don't give a rats ass about bluetooth connectivity. Up to half of them have bad backs and this is especially so on a long drive. SO WHAT SEAT OPTIONS ARE AVAILABLE?
The Audi RS3 (400bhp, 0-60 in 3.9 seconds) is ALSO rated at 19/28/22- same as the Pacifica. I'd have the Audi.
The rotary shifter on FCA is the best.
As I predicted, FCA massive recall inbound.
Love my Pacifica !!! ❤️
I love the Pacific Ocean as well
Pacifica all way
Sylvio Fleurant Pacificas second row seats are less comfortable due to sto and go
Right now a lot of people love the Pacifica but the Odyssey is always better
No comparison.
On one, the 2 lots of rear seating fold into the floor.
On the other one, only one set of seats fold into the floor...
George W. Bush the Pacifica is also super nice......it’s just all in opinion but the odyssey has more useful features...and the Pacifica has feature that you might both want and what you need......really it’s just all bout which one you like better
practical, low maintenance, and reliable = Toyota or Honda
I have twin toddlers and we love our 2017 Pacifica. I can watch them from a mirror right by the rear view mirror. We have a lot of space even for guests who want to ride with us. Once we had to add 2 more carseats...no problem! It looks so slick and with so much power it doesn't feel like I'm driving a van.
Chrysler birthed the minivan, but Honda and Toyota perfected it.
Pacífica the best
I didn't like the power folding 3rd row on the Pacifica. It's too slow. The manual folding seats are just fine, and much much quicker.
Pacifica hands down
For the 18 people buying mini vans this was a great video
Thanks! (I think...)
AutoGuide.com hahaha yes complementing your work. The segment is unfortunately limited. These basically are your only choices. All very similar offerings. I don't see anyone who.doesnt already have a mini van buying on if these.
Around the way girl!!! 😂 I see you playa
nothing about ride quality over broken pavement? a lot of us live out in the sticks with busted up roads, so ride quality is an important consideration.
I don't trust the accuracy of the on-board computer when it comes the MPG. My '18 Civic is about 3 MPG optimistic compared to the good 'ol trip odo mileage divided by the gallons of gas.
i had to watch this 1.25
Why?
He talks too slow lol
Zain Amir same
Zain Amir
Lol, fair enough
At 1.5.
@Svoon V right pacifica is actually easy better than chryslers past and Hondas Are really starting to be bad like frfr
+Ansr Max evidence?
