  • Li Dayin shocked the weightlifting world when he moved up to the -89kg weight category and set new world records in the snatch and total, as well as a 10kg personal record in the clean and jerk. His 180kg snatch and 396kg total now rank him as the number one 89kg weightlifter in the world.

Unless you are a gym goer it's probably very hard to appreciate just how powerful guys like this are. By normal standards I80kg is a respectable deadlift for a guy of his size.

      Agreed.
What's crazy is that this guy actually has both. Size and strength.
If he decides to do body building he would do well.
He even says it himself that he needs to be a little too lean for him to maintain the weith cap.

This fellow is a superb athlete. Not only is he strong, he has stamina and agility, a potent combination that enables him to get the weight moving upward, lifting even himself in that process, then dashing under the weight before it falls too far. Perhaps the greatest gift he possesses, is his mental strength.... He appears to me to lack intimidation of the heaviest weights, approaches the bar with extreme confidence and executes perfect form with every lift.

When I was a kid there was a guy in my small town of New Zealand who went to the 1982 commonwealth games , 1984 Los Angeles olympics , 1986 commonwealths in Edinburgh Scotland , 1988 soul olympics and 1990 commonwealth games New Zealand . He lifted in the 82.5 kg class and his best lifts were a snatch of 152kg and a clean and jerk of 193kg . Phenomenal lifts for 82.5 kg but he said to me years latter the Bulgarians and Russians in the day were dame near snatching his clean and jerk . Just ridiculous strength really .

Until someone can beat Naim Suleymanoglu's 504 Sinclair he will remain the greatest weightlifter of all time. And no one between the 80-100 weight category has come close to Yurik Vardanian's Sinclair total of 489 (182.5/224 at 82.5) in 39 years and counting.

@@theermios3098 no one cares about those records. They are useless. Lu 177kg at 77kg is the lightest to snatch 100kg over bodyweight. So 50+ years and counting lol

It's so crazy to watch these guys do these lifts. He just did the clean where the weight went the length of his neck before coming back and hitting him in the clavicle... and not even a flinch. That was 216kg...

powerlifting and bodybuilding is not the same, look up hypertrophy (muscle cell size) does not equate to strength

one serious question, which muscle group contributes the highest % for clean and jerk when carrying such load or weight...........big leg muscle...or strong shoulder muscle...or strong arm muscle...in another word....i just want to know which muscle group i need to put more effort....
