I Love Blue Bell Ice Cream, but won't eat it anymore because they refuse to put a sealed wrapper over it!! I watched too many videos of disgusting people taking off lid, licking the ice cream and then putting it back in the freezer!! 🤢
Native Texan here...never heard of it before, but it looks pretty good. I would 86 the pretzels entirely and substituent more pecans if I were making it myself.
This a variation of an original recipe called "Hello Dolly Bars" (it has other names too). You make a base of crushed graham crackers, melted butter and coconut, press into square pan, top with a layer of chocolate chips, then layer of pecans then pour on the sweetened condensed milk and bake. The recipe has been around since at least the 1960's. It was probably created by Eagle Brand (makers of the sweetened condensed milk).
I am a 58 year old native Texan, and I have never heard of this recipe before, but it sure looks good! And it would need to be topped with Blue Bell for that real Texas flavor.
Native Texan here ... I LOVE LOVE LOVE Texas Trash Pie. A friend of mine makes it just about like this. It's Soooooo easy. I didn't know that Royers in Round Top has it on their menu, I'm going to stop by! Other folks are right about the Bluebell ice cream to go on top, that's down home Texan too, and you can tour.
I see a lot comments about your accent not sounding Texan, if that is what you were going for. Just wear a cowboy hat. And throw in some "y'all's" in there. Maybe a "bless your heart." However, if you were aiming for Louisiana accent, you nailed it.
I posted this in response to a particular comment but I see from the comments that many people don’t know the origin of the recipe. It was created at Royer’s Round Top Cafe and can be ordered online if so desired. Round Top sits halfway between Houston and Austin and is the antique capital of Texas. This person is not from Texas and wouldn’t know that Blue Bell is legend. As for the crust, I saw some people upset with the frozen crust choice, but a a trash pie with things like pretzels, graham crackers, and sweetened condensed milk, begs for a premade crust. However, feel free to make your own, I do, but I’m a baker.
@@LoriL010 maybe, but Texas Trash Pie was created at Royer’s and they made it an iconic dessert on their menu. It has also been around for decades. Trash is a common description used in cooking an item with lots of different ingredients that can also be eaten on their own, ie: Texas Trash Dip.

That ain't no damn Texas accent in any part of the state! It's not Louisiana either. It's straight up hooey. He's faking the accent, trying to "sound Texan" because that diabetes pie supposedly has Texas Trash in it. Hint: it doesn't. Texas Trash is basically homemade Chex Mix.

Stir together just those 4 ingredients, pour into a baking dish coated with melted butter and bake ... SO good! But I will have to try this recipe (without the pretzels, not a fan). I never would have thought to put it in a pie crust. Thanks for the video!
Ok, I give up---WHERE did you get this accent? It's just like the one I've heard in the 90 year old people (20 years ago!) from north Louisiana where I'm from. They are all long gone now so it's been a minute. Your accent took me back to some fond memories of great laughs, good food and great stories from those folks. The pie looks delicious by the way-have a great weekend y'all-it's almost here if you're reading this on a Thursday! 🙂
Lol. My favorite Christmas cookie took a tub of candied cherries, a pound each of dates and pecans, lots of brown sugar. It was expensive 40 years ago. Doesn't get made anymore.
What an adorable accent, thought it was put on at first. 😂 This looks yummy! I would use the cinnamon gram crackers instead of plane, and I would add a layer of marshmallow cream to the top, once it came out of the hot oven. 😋
I’m a 6th generation native Texan and I’ve never seen or heard of this. 🤭 It looks amazing, though. Your accent sounds exactly like my maternal grandfathers. He was not born in Texas!
This pie is an iconic dessert at Royer’s Round Top Cafe. They created the dessert. Round Top is halfway between Houston and Austin and is the antique capital of Texas.
Texas here. Never seen this in pie form, only in bars, like a brownie. It's called trash because it has everything just thrown in and when mixed it looks like garbage. Yes, kitchen sink would probably be more accurate. They sell these in the bakery at Kroger, with the brownies. They are the absolute best!
Usually when we call something a “Trash ---“ then it means we threw everything in together like when you throw out trash 😂 It’s just a fun little thing!
I always called it Trailer park trash bars. The reasoning was the trash people that lived in trailer parks only had junk food, bought on Food stamps. Not my thought, but how it was explained to me about 40 yrs ago.
I don't use pretzels or coconut. Also, you wanna make a sauce of brown sugar & molasses, then drizzle that all over the top before baking it. Or, if you prefer, a caramel sauce.
You could try looking into carob chips for the dogs, see if they have an allergic reaction and if they don't you can see if they like it. It can replace chocolate for people and dogs, i know someone people who are allergic to chocolate so this is a good substitute.
If you are adapting it to carob chips so you can feed it to your dog, can you even say that you love your dog? You’re basically trying to kill it, even with “carob”. And why would you do that?
It's has the same ingredients, except for the caramel bits & pretzels, and it's made in layers for a cookie bar. It's called Hello Dollies or Magic Cookie Bars. I've never heard of it being made into a pie. It's just Hello Dollies in a pie.
I know you showed it, but please SAY sweetened condensed milk for us northerners. If someone was just listening they might add the wrong thing. Looks delicious!!

Moolineum crunch
