    I forgot to add that Lara tells you “No” when picking the wrong item, such as the wrong key for a door or something that clearly doesn’t fit.
    What other small details did you notice in this game?

    Couldn’t agree more about aging well. Never played this game as a kid so I went into this game fresh. Easily one of the best game I ever played and the puzzle solving made me think in ways a game hasn’t made me in decades

      agree, im 17 and while i had played tomb raider anniversary earlier this year, they have very different flavours. At first i put modern controls cuz i was used to TRA and found myself frustrated with alot of aspects, but after switching to tank controls and getting used to them after the lost valley, i can say they work perfectly well. Because of the grid system every action and step is far more accurate and consistent so idk why people bitch about the controls. Nonetheless, i love both this and TRA, I just finished the egypt chapter and i cant wait to complete this game.

    After the miserable slog that was the “survivor” trilogy, going back to this game is a breath of fresh air. In a sea of modern and mediocre AAA games where characters yack nonstop it feels good to relive a classic. This is the real Tomb Raider experience.

    To anyone playing these games for the first time I urge you to use the classic tank control scheme. These games were built around those controls and once you learn how they work you'll find yourself having a much more rewarding experience. Pulling off a series of jumps to reach a hidden item just feels so good when you're in complete control of Lara. There's no auto grab so if you mess up the timing you're going to fall but ultimately you'll know that it was you that messed up not the game janking out with floaty physics and weird hit boxes like in the newer entries. Seriously, disregard the reviews bashing the game's "outdated" control scheme and take the time to learn it. It's worth it.

If you hold the TouchPad + square or circle or X, she will equip another weapon without animation. What I enjoyed about going back to this game is getting a refresher on what games of the 3D era were like and understanding the limitations of the ps1, how core design was able to cheat the engine, the genius tho controversial deliberate controls, using fire arms as a good way to fix combat.
    Everyone must remember that 3D was still a new thing to gamers even early 3D games had optional tutorial areas to practice movements like Croft Manor in TR1 to 3, Kokiri Forest in Ocarina of time, the outdoors in mario 64, where they were smartly designed to comfort people into the 3D controls which even they knew back then was difficult for people to understand so having lovely locations that are pleasing to the eyes (at the time) is a good way to get people warmed up for the real game, also these areas are optional or just easily dashed through with no interuptions which is super great for people on repeat playthroughs.
    Toby Guard, learned alot of the deliberate animation and deliberate controls from prince of persia and did a good job of translating that 2D deliberate platformer into a 3D Deliberate platformer.
    I also want to mention Egoraptor's Sequelitis series with castlevania where he mentioned intentional movement delay when you press the jump button which does make sense in adding tension to the enviroments of being scary when really it's a good artificial way to make a game difficult with some kind of believability to how a character would move in a video game if it had some kind of realism.
    Modern people these days have proven they can tolerate difficult games even those with some deliberate controls and they are willing to put in the work for something difficult when you convince them for the challenge, I refuse to believe that the general public won't play these types of games because of Tank/Deliberate controls but more that the game is too old where characters look like lego models even when I was a kid of the 90s I mocked 3D models for looking like lego/barbies/action man dolls XD hahha.
    As long as the art is good enough for anyone then people will play that game even if it's difficult.
    I feel the TR Remasters are the best way to play these games tho they did mess up the save crystals for NG+ where you can't use medpacks anymore but you only get full healed upon saving from a save crystal one time only which i feel is a bad thing, ik TR has so many players who can easily decimate this game no problem but there are tons of players like me who haven't put decades of time into these games n wish each level had at least 1 to 5 small medpacks but only in secret areas for each level.
    AI texture upgrades it's kinda a double edged sword, AI can be a good tool to repair old crispy visuals but it would be better if the developers used the AI first then did a ton of touch ups on the visuals to not make the AI look too obvious.
    I've played through most of this collection but not finished it, I had struggles beating this as a kid n teen but in 2022 i beat TR1 then did 100% run then took a break then suddenly the remasters were announced so I waited for these to come out first.
    I've had more frustrations for old tombraider more than praises but as I've gotten better and matured as a person I've grown to strongly appreciate these games and I do feel the difficulty especially in TR1 to be too exagerated n i just had "Skill issues". But now I love this era of TR.

But on that version the game automatically saves every level's first save separately with a name of the level. So if you beat the game then your saved game has access to all levels from "load game" option.

    Getting used to the controls again took a little bit, but when you really learn that the game is basically based on a grid for movement, that these controls are the way that they are so that every one of your jumps can be deliberate and has a best option for it whether it's simple or running jumps forward, or the sideways jump or the backflip.
    Were they still kind of suck is just combat but realistically combat isn't all common in the first game

I love how much darker and creepier the OG is underwater with those dark shadows all over the place. Its so clear in the remaster that takes it takes the creepiness away. Only a small thing. TR games require something from the player and are still fun as hell.
    One might think that the controls didnt age well. Not really. For TR Classics they are excellent. I wouldnt wish for anything else.
    The prescision that is possible trough them is remarkable.
    These games are soly dismissed because people judge games way too fast without even knowing them properly.

    It's the opposite of a timeless classic. It feels very dated and aged in all the worst ways. That early polygonal graphic era with blurry textures from early bilinear filtering aged horribly, and the controls for jumping/climbing have aged even worse. It's not a classic or timeless. And given that it was remade in Tomb Raider Anniversary, there's really no good reason to ever bother with the original unless you're nostalgic or are curious to see how it began.

    • @TombRaider_Remastered
      @TombRaider_Remastered 3 місяці тому

      ….. Um none of this is in the remaster.
      I mean if you’re talking about PS1 Tr1 than there are slight issues like not being able to 180 in air or underwater.
      But the remaster literally added modern controls, remade her entire model and a ton of different environments, the loading screens, the menus, list goes on
      They added the “Lara’s guide” which basically when you’re by something interactive Lara’s hand is displayed now to help the player
      The remasters dumbed down the original game so much that if you’re STILL having issues, you’re just not good at the game. The tools are all their you just doing understand the game whatsoever lmao

    • @TombRaider_Remastered
      @TombRaider_Remastered 3 місяці тому

      And you can literally switch between modern or classic graphics and the modern graphics there is a massive difference as a lot of these are remade completely as we found out from the dev
      The jumping and climbing there isn’t an issue. So long as you UNDERSTAND the game and how far Lara can jump and you will always know
      How this game plays out is actually better than Anniversary as with “auto grab” their is issues because sometimes you literally don’t have control over the character
      You guys are so use to handholding that retro games are 1000% not for you. In early days it wasn’t just hold one button. You actually have to PLAYYYYY lmao

  • @paft

    Anyone else not a fan of the remastered look? I can appreciate it, but it just seems off to me. It reduces the charm. It gives it more of a cutsey generic vibe, particularly the player models. Artistically it loooks worse in some areas.
