How to catch trout in stocked lakes & ponds!!!

  • The Carolina rig is a great way to fish for stocked trout in a lake. This slip sinker rig allows the skittish trout to take the bait without feeling resistance from the sinker.. For best results try different length leaders to find out where the trout are suspending, and always use floating baits with this type of setup.. Check out the links below for more info and the products used in this video.

    Tomorrow is going to be my first time trout fishing, so I really appreciate all the information. I've always fished large mouth bass and now I'm going to try for trout. I have 4 older brothers who have fished for years and won't teach me so I've come a long way teaching myself from guys like you with your videos and now I'm catching 8 to 10 pound large mouth bass. Wish me luck learning how to catch trout. Ps. If a woman ever asks you to teach her how to fish, just say sure. 😊😎

    Good video, thank you for posting. You are the first catch-and-release sportsman I've ever heard mention and use the "wet your hands" before touching technique. I learned this as a kid. Most people don't know that dry hands remove the slime and make the fish susceptible to both bacteria and fungus infection. Dry hands equal dead fish.

    Great video. Just discovered water bobbers as weights. (Clear plastic bobbers you can fill with water)..you fill them with water and they go much farther than weights and without losing your bait. Especially in spring and summer when the trout are deep you can cast it with a super tiny treble hook (18) and power bait. Best rig ever.

      I’ve fished in my local spot for years and never caught not one fish. Just went today and brought in 10 catfish.
      If you don’t really know what you’re doing, it’s mostly luck.

    • @sprezzafried4439
      @sprezzafried4439 4 роки тому

      @@thomasflores7817 I wouldn't place it on luck necessarily, maybe 20% luck, 60% timing and 20% knowledge. I feel like luck is a part of it but not the determining factor of catching a fish. If you go out at the wrong time of day you drastically lower your chances to catch anything and if you don't know what baits to use or where to cast you end up catching more vegetation than anything haha. I am not a pro, I have been fishing in the past but never really cared to fish. Now I have an interest and want to learn it well enough to be confident in catching a fish. I have basic knowledge and basic ideas of whats to be done but I've never had a fish on a hook so I can't really say anything for certain. But i don't think fishing is based off luck personally. Luck plays a role for sure but there's much more to it I believe

    I have been using the slack in the line for visual bites for years. I have found that using a bobber to weight down the line is not a good idea. Why? Because when you let it sit for a while they can get twisted on the line, and if you jirk up on the pole with fish on it can snap the line and break it. Solution: I use large colored papper clips. Open the clip put it on the line, you get the same results. You may have to put a few clips on for weight if it'breezy, but they won't snag your line. You won't have to remove them they will fly off when you jirk the pole up, so bring a good supply of them along.

      Glad you liked the video! this lake never really freezes enough to ice fish, but that is something I've been looking into at other lakes.

    This is just a guess, but, between the rod, reel, line, bait, bait add-ons, and bobber at the end that it comes out to about twenty dollars per fish. Is that close?

    So mono line with a flouro leader, but flouro is a sinking line and mono is a floating. Shouldn’t it be backwards to float the bait up?

    floating bait is not a must but can work better. depending on the lake.

    Interesting use of the bobber. I've never seen it used that way. Thanks for the video. You handled that release well, tight lines!

    On stocked trout you can go to the store and buy hatchery trout food! Its sold as bait and works good. You can also use the powerbait balls trout love them!

    Can you use this setup at night time?

  • @strongtrillion4235
    @strongtrillion4235 6 років тому

    For stocked trout, try this setup if it's legal for you to do so. Thaw a bag of frozen corn and throw a third or half of it in the area you intend to fish. Then take a split shot and place it 12-18 inches away from your hook. Place a marshmallow on your hook, followed up by corn until your hook is totally concealed. Lastly, leave your line slacked and wait for it to straighten out and 🎣! A old man taught me this while he was catching fish after fish and I was catching nothing on nightcrawlers. Stocked trout are fed grain and I've caught rainbows on this setup like they were bluegill. Happy fishing.

    the best bait is ballooned night crawlers held down with a tiny split shot and tight lined.

    Thanks for the video man! Question, what is the purpose of the leader line? Why not just put an egg sinker and split shot several inches above your hook? Wouldn't that achieve the same result without the extra effort of tying a swivel and leader line on? Thanks in advance for the info!

    • @SketchybrainD
      @SketchybrainD 2 роки тому +1

      So the line is able to pass through the slip weight so you can see the bite without the fish having to move the weight
