Aang is connected with the Ocean Spirit, and he creates this massive fish monster hundreds of feet tall to completely repel the Fire Navy. But the scary part should be the realization that this "monster" is a sentient embodiment of the ocean. The OCEAN ITSELF wants them gone.
@I Am I lol? aang isn't even close to being as strong as naruto are you kidding?... all it took was a single lightningbolt from azula to kill aang... the only reason he survived is because kitara healed him with magic water... naruto could survive much more than a simple lightningbolt and dish out way more damage without having to rely on something like avatar state... even if you dont like naruto there is absolutely no way aang is stronger than naruto no matter what measurement you use... naruto is stronger in literally every way. I dont even like naruto but hes MUCH stronger than aang... that said aang is a much better character than naruto.
"The Siege of the North Parts 1 & 2" were definitely two of the most epic episodes, and Aang's Avatar State Transformation in collaboration with the Ocean Spirit along with this awesome soundtrack to back it up only helps it prove just that.
I think one of my favorite parts of this song is how well it pairs with the scene. As the music slowly builds in an ever increasing crescendo, you concurrently see on screen as the water slowly rises and builds to form koizilla. Rather than resolving all at once, the choir suddenly stagnates, holding the same note beginning at 0:42, as the camera on screen neglects to show the full monster, only showing glimpses of the scene. Then, FINALLY after several seconds the camera pans out and reveals the magnitude of the beast, right as the choir finally turns the corner and completes the crescendo. It's just SO satisfying.
this TV Show has the most AMAZING soundtrack ever... i love the show so much... the martial arts from the bending combined with some humor and great action... and the fricking music... it's like a blessing. =)
Honesty time: The Ocean Spirit was the ONLY thing in the entire show that really truly frightened me, a 27 y.o. male. The main reason for that is because I have a sincere fear of the ocean. Not so much looking at it, or sailing on it with a boat, but bathing and looking directly into the wet abyss makes my very soul turn cold. And it all started with a 6 year old boy who went swimming on the beach one day, then took his head underwater and looked towards the open sea... and saw only darkness.
na-mu-abi-to-fu-shim-ji the main buddhist chant that comes out at this scene and at the end with the lion turtle. I recognized it right away b/c the korean buddhists say "na-mu-abi-ta-bul"

Well done Zhao, for nearly dooming the world, and well done Aang, for completely ignoring the consequences of killing roughly the entire Fire Navy and not giving them rites, pissing off the Fire nation even more, and nearly dooming the world by giving Koh a wonderful new army of Drowned to have fun with. Best AU ever.
R Anthony Rupp IV To be fair, Aang was merged with the Ocean Spirit during that time, so I believe most of Koizilla's rage came from the latter, upset about the murder of it's counterpart. It even killed Zhao after splitting up with Aang once the moon was restored, so I think Aang shouldn't be held responsible for that.
I mean... the Fire Navy deserved it. And the Ocean Spirit wanted retribution. Aang was the channel and with their merger saved everyone from the Fire Nation. Everyone. Zhao should have been smarter than attacking a spirit as the water spirit.

I was just wondering. I thought about that too, how the sun might have a spirit. I asked because I couldn't remember if anything about a sun spirit was mentioned in the series, I just remember fire benders being able to draw their power from it. Harnessing that power would be crazy though lol although I don't know if Aang would burn his foes to death
I've read somewhere that the Sun Spirit is called "Agni", and that the Fire Nation worship him as the One that gave them their bending power. Might explain why their honor duels are called 'Agni Kai'. Not sure if it's canon or fanon,though.
Anyone notice that in RWBY volume 3 when they showed the Fall Maiden's fight with Cinder and the gang they made a serious homage to this theme? And... well, the Avatar State.
yea.. these episodes is truly some of the best episodes in the whole serie.. and it was also the moment, when he combined wit hthe ocean spirit, that he was at his most powerfull in teh entire serie. i dont even think he was as powerfull in the last episode as he was at thet moment, he was "just" in the avatar state then, NOT joined with a DARN SPIRIT THAT TS A PART OF THE WORLD
I remember watching M.Night shabalabadingdong's version of this part; i was waiting for the ocean spirit and all i got was Aang (or Ung) making a big wave. =.= I was all @_____@ omggg its the part. then =.= srsly! You can change Aang to Ung, you can make all the fire nation indian (which don't make sense. You can make katara and sokka white, but never, I mean NEVER MESS WITH THE OCEAN SPIRIT!!!
The part on 0:26 I think was played on season 3...when Aang flew towards a rock I think and it hit his scar or something, then he got his Avatar state back.
To think right after this would have been a good time to invade the fire nation. They took a huge blow on man power and equipment during this battle it would have taken them weeks or months to rebound from such a loss. Considering zhao had to draft zukos crew.
Dude, the legend of Korra is amazing! Only thing is, you have to get through the first two episodes, and the Finale isn't quite satisfying. But then again, more episodes are coming, and we all know that the makers of Avatar have a knack for amazing us all over again.
Korra isn't really a 'physical avatar'. She just hadn't connected with her spiritual side. Air Nomad avatars become spiritually connected at a very young age with help by the Air Nomad Monks.

It's good. I mean, I'll be honest. A:TLA is better imo. There's no question about it. But the more mature tone and action is really good. It begins to grow on you. The first time around was pretty hard for me but I learned to appreciate it and even have great hopes for it.
Very good point about Ozai. It probably does come down to the fact that it's a kid show. But, I think we'll get some interesting development in the comics. That should make up for it. :P
