Curious how the guru never told where the second chakra was: in many traditions it was located at the genitals, and a kids show will never talk about it anyways. By the way this is one of the best episodes, a very zen one
Can we all agree that this one particular episode made us look into ourselves in the same light as Guru Pathik? He really had you think seriously after watching this episode.
Yea nope none of that occurred. I already know what troubles and experiences I have. Also how they affect me and my opinion of them. Basically I care less for all as opposed to care more effectively reducing obsession and need of them.
Oh yes and I also taught my kids alot about themselves as I paused and explained this scene in deeper detail to what my kids experienced at that time. I then purchased a children's book on the Chakras, I would cleanse my kids chakras reading the book to them and placing colored patches of felt at each Chakra point... they always fell asleep in the living room as I read to them and guided them into a deep meditation.🥰
That's because each chakra has a mudra, or hand position. If you want to channel a specific energy through a specific chakra, you have to use the that mudra. The hands are considered conduits when it comes to energy transfer. Hope that helps!
What people are missing in this scene and overall in ATLA is that Toph has an active light chakra although she‘s blind (The light chakra is mostly described as the third eye). She also has insights of her element since she uses all her available senses (she replaced visual sense with seismic sense) and she uses her element “correctly” because she has the right basis (neutral jing). Foreseeing is also a form of having insights and Toph has also that: She uses her seismic sense to draw conclusions about the next moves in her environment so it’s more than just using her senses she also used her intuition (The light chakra is the chakra of Intuition). “Everything is connected” yes Toph found out that metal is also a kind of earth. In LoK she lives in the swamp, which plants connect her to the world and let her SEE
The last chakra opening reminds me of what Zaheer said when he quoted Guru Laghima. “Let go of your earthly tether. Enter the void. Empty, and become wind.” Makes you think
moh q no he would need to dis attach from his sky bison appa. All airbenders can fly but the reason they can’t Is because they are given a strong earthly tether as a kids which are baby bisons.
All the elements are one Metal is created by extracting ores and resources from the *earth.* It is refined through a trial of *fire,* repeatedly quenched with *water,* and left to cool by *air.*

@@samortmann5003 To eveeeeryone talking about Korra instantly getting back the elements or knowing them from the start, the show was meant to be just 1 season. Then Nick asked for more. @@samortmann5003 You didn't get my point. They had planned the show for one season, they had already restored her bending. They couldn't just retcon it like it was nothing.
6:20 this scene helped me so much with understanding different cultures and seeing that we aren’t that different from one another. It really helped me see perspectives from other people all over the world. I used to be very closed minded but this really helped me opening up. Truely amazing what this show can do to you.
I've noticed that, us humans tend to separate ourselves into groups, fight one another, not seeing that we're all one and the same. Things like.. gender, race/nationality, different belief systems. "You atheists are all the same..!" "You religious people are all the same..!" "You x country folks are all the same!" "You women are all the same!" "You men are all the same!" And so on.. it would be nice if everyone could let go of hatred and just get along with one another, but that's mere ideology. It's always a tug of war that's "me and us" versus "you and them", and the issue is always the illusion of separation.
What makes this show great is the application to real life. The most powerful person on the earth (the avatar) is someone who faces their fears, shame and insecurities. Someone who learns from people who think differently (different benders from different nations) and understands that we're all one people. Brilliant.
This one scene is what got me into learning about chakras and spirituality and because of that my life completely changed. Thank You Avatar The Last Airbender. Flameo Hotman.
As a hindu I was taught about the idea of chakras (its in our religion) and how to open all of them. Actually chakras are mostly symbolic of various things and one must open them to gain spiritual enlightenment. ( Not to enter Avatar state😂) It is not as easy as it seems. Humans cling to worldly issues too much and cannot give them up in few minutes. ( Buddha was able to do it and hence he attained spiritual enlightenment ) I love this show so much 😍❤️😍 I was so surprised they showed this. Forgive my english. It is not my native language.
This is actually extremely helpful for meditation in real life. I ignore the specifics that he's speaking to Aang about, and simply follow his instructions in regards to my own life. For fear, I let go of poverty, and scarcity, and dangerous creatures, and the fear of being struck down while defending others or defending human rights. For guilt... well, I have a list of sins I keep, those things I have forgiven myself for but will never let myself forget until I fix them. I focus on them, and I let them flow away. For shame, I remember my failures, and the parts of myself that I can't speak aloud, the parts that are deeply personal. I accept my failures and these hidden parts of myself, and let shame flow away. For grief, I remember the home I lost, the family shattered, the people I've loved who died, and the bridges I've let decay and collapse, and the friends I've lost. And the reminder of new love, of change, is deeply comforting, and I let the pain flow away. For lies, I acknowledge my arrogance. I acknowledge my envy. I acknowledge that even seeking to be what I seek to be, is to fail to be that thing. That what I seek to be would feel no arrogance, and would feel no envy. I acknowledge that I am not that which I seek to be yet, and I let my arrogance flow away, which I can only do after acknowledging that I feel it. The sixth chakra is very simple for me to open now - the comprehension of oneness permeates my very being at all times. This part of the meditation is always nothing but soothing, as this chakra opens at will. The seventh chakra is very difficult for me. Attachment and aversion, are deeply difficult for me to face. Especially aversion - where Aang had trouble with attachment, my trouble is the opposite. I have a small few attachments that are difficult to let go, but letting go of aversion is unbelievably difficult. Letting go of pleasure I can do. Discomfort or displeasure consume me when I feel them, though, and I cannot shake them off. I have only opened this chakra once, and that day changed my entire life. This doesn't fully explain the chakras or the process of opening them, but with a little outside study it does become an extremely effective guided meditation. Thank you for posting this. I use it quite often.
Everyone of us has a sticking point - we do not have the power to let go - The Guru said, "Surrender yourself." Cosmic Energy gives the power to let go...
4:35 wow this scene brought me to tears what a powerful message of hope that love is rebron and stays in your heart and it relieves that past pain and when he says let the pain flow away the tears couldn't help themselves what a masterpiece of a show
The first time aang ran away, he didn’t know what the consequences would be. This time, he knew exactly what would happen if he left, but he did it out of worry for Katara.
“You have indeed felt a great loss. But love is a form of energy, and it swirls all around us. The Air Nomads’ love for you has not left this world. It is still inside of your heart, and is reborn in the form of new love.” Over ten years later and this show still makes me tear up :')
I love when the guru talks about the illusion of separation, and Aang is quick to make the connection about the 4 nations being one. Its something that he learned in the swamp episode, and its really cool to see that he retained that information and it became a foundational pillar of his worldview. The writing in this show is amazing.
I wish korra had done something similar to this at the end of book one to restore her bending instead of her getting her bending back immediately from aang.
@@spartandare390 True, but book one had a lot of frustrating things about it. Opportunity for social commentary about nonbenders not given enough consideration, and the godawful love triangle that left bolin and asami heartbroken.

This is easily one of the best episodes of the entire show. Everything linking together as he explains the chakras, especially as Toph invents metal bending. Legendary and always in my brain
The writing was so beautiful. The loss of the air nomads and Toph turning into a metal bender were some of the best moments in the show. I love this show man.
I like that fact that Aang was able to find a work around and was able to hold onto Katara in the end and not give her up. Katara and Aang are soulmates it's destiny that they be together.
Aang chose to let her go at the end of season 2 tho. Rather than help her immediately, he chose to try to finish the process of mastering the avatar state. He realized that as the avatar, his duties are to the world first, Katara and the others second.
That scene where he sees the avatar state floating above is just way underrated. I was amazed when I saw that as a kid, I'm surprised no one talks about in depth. Such an iconic scene.
Everything about the love Chakra part is great! The way Aang smiles, the statue of Yangchen behind, the way the airnomads appear on his mind and the dissapear... Needless to say I tearbended!
When ang sees his higher self I get chills every time, we are all cosmic energy and we must not attach ourself to the earth to truly be connected with all that is- the source 🤍
Such a shame that Pathik did not help explain and advise Aang on the attachment part. It was inadequate so we could have a bit of conflict. Luke and Yoda moment but that one is better from Yoda's dialogue. Letting go does not mean he stops loving her.
When you think about it. Aang was the most handicapped Avatar, because he couldn't open that last chakra if it meant forgetting Katara, thus his only way of activating Avatar State was being in mortal danger. Yet he still won against Ozai.
Infinity Gaming no later on the show it’s revealed that when he was struck with the lightning during the opening of the last chakra he permanently lost access t it, but in the final battle against Ozai he regains the ability when he is hit in the same spot as the lightning
School teaches you how to adapt to society, math, reading, writing, history, etc. Sadly, not many people watched Avatar (I made my bf watch it with me and he absolutely loved it). Avatar introduced me to all these thoughts and philosophies which really helped me a lot in my life and, to this day, still try to apply. Avatar is just a gift at this point to me.
"You have indeed felt a great loss. But love is a form of energy and it swirls all around us. Your people's love for you has never left this world. It is still inside of your heart, and is reborn in the form of new love" Just wow
I love the scene when Toff is metal bending and Guru Pathik talking in the background about all 4 elements are not separate but one. Just gives you goosebumps 🌈❤️🙏🏽
This is great and he's great at explaining, except for the last chakra. He kinda short changes Aang on the meaning and what he had to do. You dont have to toss everything away, instead, realize that nothing is permanent, anything can be lost in a moment, and accept that reality.
I think Aang understands what you’re saying. It’s just that he wasn’t quite ready to do that when he realized that Katara was in danger. Katara is kind of the thing that has always kept Aang from falling apart during incredibly stressful moments.
He didn’t say to “toss everything away” just to let go over his attachment to katara, that doesn’t mean he wanted aang to stop loving just to accept the fact she’s isn’t permanent…
He actually says that at some point during the episode. Something like “nothing is as stable as change” that quote has stuck with me for over ten years
this is actually so true, tried this, done this and feeling better already. this cartoon was waaaay before its time for me. 15 years later... just what i needed
When I first saw this (especially the final chakra part) all I could think of was Star Wars The Empire Strikes Back when Yoda was teaching Luke on Dagobah and he leaves to rescue his friends. It's so similar really.

No, because there are other shows that are also masterpieces. It would be disrepesctful to put Avatar in the same category as those shows. Avatar is a level above them.
I love how Guru Pathik makes small jokes and immediately goes back to teaching. Like we can let loose for a moment but we have an important mission to work on. His voice is also very soothing. Like a grampa we all knew at some point.

"You x country folks are all the same!"
"You women are all the same!"

And so on.. it would be nice if everyone could let go of hatred and just get along with one another, but that's mere ideology. It's always a tug of war that's "me and us" versus "you and them", and the issue is always the illusion of separation.
