I’ve owned the Mavic Mini for just over 2 months now and i’ve really wanted to hold on with my review for it until I use it more so I can gather enough impressions and find the things I really like and dislike about this drone. In today's video I'll share my longterm impressions of the DJI Mavic Mini, going through everything from signal strength & range through camera capabilities, battery life & flight modes until I share my final thoughts on it.

It is best drone for beginners and budding filmmakers... This is my opinion about this.
But the main draw back is of its ground clearance, it is very very less and it is very difficult to land directly on different grounds without a helipad.

I'm Miro from Pernik - Bulgaria (I've been cocky and rude with my comments on your other videos for which I apologies publicly because you are an awesome UA-camr from which tons of people can learn and I'm personally a big fan of you)... In 1 hour from now I should be receiving my FCC Version of my Mavic Mini... I ordered it from Banggood... Will update you on range in urban areas here in Pernik and I'll try it out also in Sofia too but fingers crossed that the remote controller will not update its firmware from FCC to CE firmware once location is retrieved... Personally I fly my Mavic Air in FCC mode for longer range and I do get 3.5 - 3.9KM range even in urban area especially I fly it at 120-150 meters altitude so I kind of expecting same from the Mini... Now for the none English speaking viewers here I will ask you something in Bulgarian here: Човек моля те кажи как ти е пълното име че гадая само какво може да значи Майк (Михаил, Михаел...?)

Drone Supremacy Ok I got the Mini now it was opened and sequrity seal stricken broken...(Banggood are doing so with all of the DJI products they are selling (quality assurance purposes I assume)... I received Fimi a3 and X8 SE previously with sequrity stickers untouched as Banggood was the first official reseller of those Fimi products)
But I see all the other stickers on the Mini itself and the remote controller (it is really MT1SS5 FCC controller) have all the stickers on and it is a brand new device obviously... Will update you on coverage and mode in a few days from now...
Ravi kanth Kachibhotla hey brother I find when landing the mini especially in potentially nasty terrain, it is so much easier to land in your hand. Just have the mini hover over your hand long enough we’re the sensors recognize and hold the down toggle until it gently lands in your palm. I pretty much launch and land it by hand 90% of the time now.
So, what do you sugest, to buy a Mavic Mini and have a fight with my wife, or to buy a new Mavic Air 2 and risk the divorce? 😅

I have the mini, Air 1 and the Air 2. I’d suggest that the divorce risk is worth it. But then again, deoends in your requirement, maybe just abfight with the wife is enough
Get the best one you like BEFORE divorce, because you will have even less $$$$ after the divorce. At least you have a nice toy and watching nice drone video without your-worse-half nagging.....😁🤪👍
Windy and connectivity is poison for mini , but knowing it limitations makes it a great entry product

Ills mi pro so I bought the mini. For what I use it for is great,they have simplified the control system.i love that because the pro had too many setup options

its a nice video but i strongly disagree its more than good enough for paid professional work. Maybe not the top dollar work but for everything else from budget to mid level sure. Even real estate tons of RE agents still take pics with their phones and not even the latest good phones. At least video wise. No raw kind of limits it in photography but you can still get nice shots and edit some to push it if you put in the time.

I am wanting to add indoor video for my Real Estate photography. Have a phantom 4 pro. I usually shoot stills only. Video is new for me. I bought the mini for in interior. my question is that when running a couple indoor tests. I notice a kind of wiggling ( sorry best way to describe)
on the video when I am looking at it in light room. have not uploaded to photo shop yet. Is it the settings? or would it clear up when I process in photo shop and render out.? thanks d

@@DougChristensen I mean, it has altitude hold, GPS, horizon lock, etc. you just push the stick in whatever direction you go. Only situation I could possibly see as a reasonable explanation for somebody actually crashing one of these is by flying backwards with your nose in the screen without scouting the location or having a spotter. But also, drones like this are incredibly easy to fly line of sight so even that shouldn't really happen. If the mavic mini came with obstacle avoidance, the first thing I'd do is turn it off.
Most DJI pilots believe they're pretty good but don't have any experience flying something that actually requires skill to fly. I understand how someone inexperienced would want obstacle avoidance, but I'd imagine it would just be an absolute nightmare to anybody with even a slight amount of skill.
Damian may have pointed out in a rude way that the OP wasn't experienced with drones, and it may have been an unnecessary thing to say in the context of a youtube comment, but that doesn't make him wrong. And, DJI pilots who believe they are better than they are do cause some pretty serious safety issues. Even the FAA talks about the harm this mentality has in their 107 study material. And if you look at the OP's UA-cam channel, you'll see him crash a mavic air in a very amateur fashion. Slow, sluggish, jerky movements, followed by flying directly up without scouting the path, looking where he's going with the camera, and almost certainly not looking where he's going line of sight. About 15 near misses with branches which should've warned him to stop and get out but he kept pushing it until he crashed. That was posted only 6 days ago.
I don't say this to be harsh or rude, but DJI pilots believing they're good when they actually are very inexperienced pilots is definitely a safety concern and probably the only real safety concern the FAA has to regulate our hobby as they're trying to. It's important to point that out to pilots who overemphasize their abilities so that we can all be safer and have more freedom as pilots. Again, Damian didn't have to be rude about it, but there is definitely merit to what he's saying if you look past that.

You forgot to mention in your cons about the low wind resistance. I've had a few close calls even within the recommended wind speeds. That's why I love my Air that much better. I feel that I can fly it in much stronger winds which is something you can't plan for when trying to get that special shot.
I have a mixed opinion about the wind resistance. In few situations it has been really tough, in others it has been rock solid. So it really depends.

I recently purchased the Mavic Mini and love it so far! Sometimes I’ll have issues with the GPS but maybe it’s where I fly?
I have only minor issue. When not flying for few days, it takes maybe minute to find enough satellites. And when you are close to building with half of the sky obscured, it never has enough satellites. But unlike phone which sometimes uses wifi to localize itself in urban area and which is happy when it knows location with 20 meters accuracy, drone needs much better signal, because it sometimes have to rely only on GPS and barometer to keep it's position.
What kind of phone? What kind of service?

I bought the mini a few days ago. I want to say this. Video quality is great. If you are buying a drone for going out far distances this is NOT the drone to get. I do have a lot of trees around the places that I fly and I know they cause interference with the signal. When im in the wide open with nothing between me and the drone Ive been getting close to 3/4 of a mile in distance and thats going about 350-400ft in altitude. Overall im really happy with it and the price range. Get you some filters, range extenders to improve quality of your service even in short range scenarios, and get something to keep your props together while your drone is packed away. If you love to fly all day you might want to get a few 12v car chargers
0:45 mini heart attack, especially since the mini doesn't have active avoidance to the same degree as the air or the pro

The lack of raw was an entirely deal breaker for me. On the air, I can do AEB in raw. For point and shoot, Mini is fine. But if you any goals of even taking its pictures to the PC to push up and down, forget.
Pro's: all spot on, i went to the philippines with it and it was soooo small and easy to carry
Con's:my major ones are wifi density in towns sometimes stops you from flying because it's just a pain to get disconnected every 20 seconds in my city, no problems at all while on the field. The other problem is obviously wind so you have to be careful when and where to fly due to gusts.
All in all i love it!
Getting mine, too, on Monday. Given to me as a gift and will practice with it. Then, I'll also bring it to the Philippines for my retirement. I'll use it for vlogging!

Its acctually better to fly the mavic mini without wifi on.and also the mavic mini can go 2.4 miles in distance but i recommend you to get the new mavic mini 2 which has 4k camera and can go up to 6 miles far. And the new mavic mini will come out on the fourth of november even though some ppl managed to buy one at best buy without anyone knowing and you can check a vid about the drone getting leaked.

This is the perfect SHTF surveillance drone. Simple, lightweight, decent range, good battery life, low cost. Pack it in your gear and deploy for any number of reasons. Image quality is more than good enough for that purpose.

Acctually the new mavic mini 2 is way better than the mini because ot has 4k and can go up to 6 miles far plus it is stronger with bigger props and if you didnt know the mavic mini 2 was soposed to be released on the 4th of november but some ppl managed to buy one at best buy withought anyone knowing and there is even a vid about it so i really do reccomend the new mini 2. Oh yea and it also comes with a mavic air 2 controller which is awsome

Great video Mike! I love both my Mini and my Spark! The Spark gets moor dust on the props now, but winter cycling batteries ill fly it and laugh every time I have to land and swap batteries!🤣😂 Mini flight time is like an eternity in comparison!🤣😂
Matt Novak besides the battery difference. What is the difference between the two? I'm owning a spark & happy with it. But sometimes flying in urban area frustrates me. So looking thru mini like an upgrade / pretty much the same?

The Citizens , The range is way better than that of the Spark! The video and camera difference is really only a software difference. It seems likely that more control over the Mini’s camera may come in the way of firmware updates in the future. I also like that you can tilt the gimbal up (I believe 30 degrees). They both have their advantages and disadvantages but with the great price for the Mini, I just couldn’t pass on it. The other big feature I like over the Spark is that the arms fold making it easier take with you just about anywhere! Seriously, you can put it in your pocket!

3rd: I've only been flying the Mini for about a month now ....But, that having been said, I pulled up some of my original (non-edited) footage straight from the mini...... Used DaVinci Resolve and using your LUT in Post - Production Color Grading.....WOW...!!! What a difference. I highly recommend your LUT...Very...Very nice. I cannot tell the difference when compared to 4K from my Inspire, Mavic Pro, or Typhoon H.... Phenomenal job My friend.

Between Mavic Mini new or Mavic Air second hand though, that could be a problem in deciding.
Of course Mavic Air..4k video, 100mbps recording, obstacle avoidance, inteligent flight mode, better wind handling. Get an alpha antena from the unlocking drone and you have with you a drone almost or better than the mp1.

@@megatazman5129 yes it cost around myr300-400. It boost mini range to 4km(solid bar) and pretty sure it will do the same with the air. Mavic air is a good buy , just that when you shoot in d-cinelike the footage gonna be noisy. Heard people use ettr to solve it..sadly i sold my air so i cant test it

This is my first drone and I love it so far. Farthest I have flown was 600 meters and started to lose connection.
Just fly higher. I took mine a few days ago out to 1.5 km (1 mile here in USA) with no connection issue, which was the farthest I've been so far. You need to fly at least 250 to 300 meters high if you take it out to those long distances, especially if you are flying from behind trees or other obstructions. I've learned this the hard way after flying almost every day for the past 4 months.

Like you, flying the Mavic 2 has spoiled me. I got the mini and couldn’t deal with the differences and returned the mini. Not having obstacle avoidance on it really stressed me out.

I hear a lot of people criticize the lack of active tracking, but the real reason it's limited is because there are not obstacle avoidance. Of course, there's no obstacle avoidance because DJI was aiming to keep it under 250g.

Can't say for sure as I don't own the Insta 360 One R (yet) but since you already have a few drones I'd go for the 360! The 1" looks very promising.

Can I power it up with a bank charger which has 12v output? I’m power up my fishfinder via the 12v but the power back has USB port that I can for example charge a phone. Wondering if same USB port can charge the battery of the drone?

Spark honestly is better drone to me. Mavic Mini is an indoor drone to me....live it for real estate videos but it’s lame to fly in many ways in my eyes. Mavic Air 2 smokes it of course. Spark is underrated little drone and kind of like the fact no folding arms and flimsy props and motor errors. SO cute though when landing in your hand reason enough to buy one. 😊

Why in Hell did they not make the Mavic Mini with the FOLLOW ME feature? Nevermind....I know why....because nobody would buy these more expensive models or need them! Ok, makes sense in the first moment you have that thought....but in the next breath you realize that they would sell like 10 million Mavic Mini's in the first month at the $399 price if it had a follow me feature among a few others......Actually.....no other feature is needed....just make it follow us real good and we would be lining up and down the street waiting for hours and camping overnight to get our hands on one! WTF!
DO NOT buy from DJI, I have tried and had nothing but problems as well as a TWO month wait only to have half of my order show up. Additionally, their “customer services” just couldn’t care less. Still waiting for the rest of my order....two months and counting, oh, and I’ve been charged already!!

I have a chance to get a mint used Mavic Pro 950 Nanuk Hardcase, remote with range extender, 4 batteries with 4 battery charger and DC charger, polarized lens, soft case for remote and drone and 3 fire proof LiPo bags for $600 or a new Mini Fly More for $600 CDN, I would assume at that price point the Pro would be a smarter choice, yeah?

2. Recently I got gimbal overload warning and then the camera went erratic until I land it

Fyi, my friend with mavic pro (not 2 pro) can easily fly in my area while my mini losing signal in just 50m

U keep comparing this drone to its predecessors!! Should jus keep it for this drone and this drone alone!! U can’t compare a ‘67 mustang to a 2020 mustang!!

I figured out how to get the Mavic Air 2 to work with a specific Premium VR headset. I will trade what I know for matrice 200 series or maybe an Inspire 2. This is legit. I am the only person in the world who has figured it out. DJI hasn't responded to my emails. I've been poor my whole life and I just want to have one thing that I could never have afforded on my own before.
i would love to buy this drone, but with my horrible experience with costumer service on my DJI Phantom 4 i swore i would never buy a dji product again. i hope the thousands of people who got screwed from dji remember how they were treated......
The problem with Mavic is they release a new 1 or 2 new drones each year slightly upgrading them each time making the predecessors obsolete, just like apple do with the Iphone, they have the technology now to make the ultimate drone now, but they will drip feed you more megapixels each year to keep making more money from you. i love the Mavic drones but i dont like the way the conduct business 👎
For you owners out there. How does this handle winds? I live by the coast and 5 - 20 MPH constant wind is the normal here. I won't fly in Gusts. Recommendations?
In Auztralia, they may only be operated within visual contact. So range is irrelevant. The colour is bad as it blends in. Should be hi vis for safety reasons.
Considering the Mavic Mini is light... You can fly without acquiring a license from Transport Canada.
Why couldnt u use this drone professionally? Image looks great. You can lock exposure, and catch smooth and sharp establishing shots. Why couldnt it be used to supplement professional work?
not worth it ive had it since nov 1st when it came out.. it was great now it wont go more than 1500 feet before the video breaks up and i get rc signal lost so i turn right around why it will just hover there.. folks dji has let us down since the first flight controller.. i have a phantom 3 pro too the video drops out after 2500 feet... the controller green led turns red and i turn around.. im getting sick of it i can go build one with a 444 mhz transmitter long range and go 20miles.. why cant dji do this i mean for fuck sake i wasd thikning just add my own transmitter and use my fat shark goggles to make sure nothing happens

You didn't comment on how it handles in the wind. I live in an area where the wind is frequently 15-30 mph. How does the mini do in a windy environment?
It’s perfectly fine at low altitudes just don’t go above 200ft in those winds
@@zacmolina2786 Thanks for the. reply. However, after more research I have decided to spend more and upgrade to the Mavic 2 Zoom or the Mavic 2 Pro. I think I am leaning more toward the Zoom, but it is a tough one.
LADYCHIEF Retired & DIY getting into drones is tough all together fr I just don’t see myself flying enough to want to spend mavic 2 money but if you feel it’s better for what you need then do what you feel is best

I thinks you’re the first person that did not like this drone. I purchased it and absolutely love it. I live in USA and no issue with connection at all. Maybe it’s where you live partner.
video cuts off after 600m. That's bad. Ill have to see if I can switch it manually to 2.4
In my country it's expensive but cheaper than Mavic 2 pro but i guess imma consider buying this because i never flew a drone i guess it's a start
I have a challenge, do a travel video using an osmo pocket and mavic mini edited through an iPad pro, need to be convinced if this is possible

I've heard a lot of complaints about connectivity with the mobile app. Is that correct? I've been thinking of getting one bit I had another one before which I can no longer use since they stopped updating the app and now the drone won't work.
