This is exactly how all the cabinets in my 1970s kitchen are build. Kitchen still is rock solid and all I had to do after buying the house was to paint the faceframes and doors in a colour I liked. It was super easy since all doors were mounted on barrel hinges and the cabinets now look like new again. These videos are a great source of information for me about how my cabinets were made. Thanks for that!

French cleat is a great system for hanging cabs on your own... And you can move the cabs sideways to get 'em just right ! 😎👍☘️🍺

.... as long as the walls are at exactly 90°to each other... I actually use 2 french cleats one at the top & one at the bottom...

If the wall was lvl. You can put the hanger on the inside part of the cabinet and have it flush to the wall

How do you hide the French cleat 1/2” gap ?

Usually, end panels are used which butt up against the wall & which often have to be scribed to the wall if its "out"a bit... He mentioned it at the 2min mark I believe...😎👍☘️🍺

what is the measurement that your upper corner cabinet there is taking up from the wall behind you on timestamp 2:49?

Do you also leave 3/4” overhang on the outside face frame of the upper cabinets like you do for the base cabinets?

Yes. This allows for an applied panel for a finished end. A lot of the times I'll ordered an extra "cabinet door" to finish the ends of the cabinets.

I brought the plans but I’m stock on the shelves on the upper corner cabinet, no info on the plans to install or make shelves for the upper cabinet

The shelves are the same as the top and bottom pieces. You may need to trim 1/16-1/8 off to make them easier to install but I like my shelves snug

    Is the French cleat 3/8”?

No I used 1/2” then I anchored all the cabinets to studs after hanging. The cleats are there to help align everything and make it safe and easy to install the cabinets solo

I still don’t understand the 3 inch off the desired length. If we 3/4 inch plywood on each side that is only 1.5 inches, not 3. Why are we taking off that much?
