This debate was really good indeed, but if I were the negative side, I would start straight away with "Everyone can become the best leader". In the affirmative team rebuttals there were always brought up terms "majority" and "minority". However the motion "Best leaders come from the margins" doesn't presuppose that the opposition should go on about majority. The concluding sentence of the last negative speaker should've been their beginning.
P C I agree because marginalization doesn’t represent the term minority. You can be in the minority but not marginalized. People are great debaters but went off topic...
This showcase was interesting. Although, I must say that I think it was interpreted wrong... You could here everyone in the crowd cheer when a speaker basically insulted the other team, disregarding the fact that this is a debate and doesn't represent the opinions of the debaters themselves. It's pretty stupid. But there were some amazing debaters though
Rachel Panth I agree this debate was really interesting, but to me some debaters who gave those insults, delivered it in a strategic manner that it engaged the judges and audience in the room. Even if those insults were opinion based, they were still part of the debaters’ speech which did in fact support their point, so i would call it a strategy instead of an insult. So overall i liked the way all of them debated :) especially the final speaker for the negative team
@@neronexdoor but like insults are generally considered as bad debating... It may make the speech more intresesting. But from a purely logical point of view its useless
Because they were competitive, representing their country, school. How could they hold that. You may say that they could just hold their anger but think the pressure, the crowd, their school. How do you think they would respond?
WSC needs a better debate format, this isn't cutting it, competitive debates often are a lot more technical and have arguments that actually link to analysis with substantive rebuttle, still enjoyed this tho
Fr. The time given for rebuttals in one’s speech is very minimal and hence no productive conclusion is ever drawn moreover there’s a huge need for more questions on speeches.
First time is wsc this year and it was amazing, everyone was so warm and welcoming and although I traded my alpaca in the "black market" the whole experience was great, unfortunately I wont go to the global rounds because of the whole corona virus outbreak but such a lovely event
Hi guys ! I’m hazel from Melaka and I went to the Sydney round . I would like to give a comment here coz I was at the top level . So first off I’m going to say that I’m neutral about this motion and I’ll tell you why . So first off the speakers has been constantly mentioning the examples of world leaders like Donald trump and Barack Obama and the speakers are constantly giving comparisons about their leadership skills . I support with the negative side which said that leaders doesn’t have to be a political leaders as mentioned presidents . I also agree with the affirmative which mentioned about them gaining their experience through them being treated harshly by the majority like how there are still children who are sleeping on the road or those who have been made slaves. These had made the marginalised better in solving conflicts in fields like politics and economy . They understand the hard work that they have to face as a leader . Thank you for listening !
14:20 , the speaker had misinterpreted the donation , bill gates donated to a charity but the 99 % she stated was donated to a private fund under bill gates name. However he did do many good deeds and donated and developed many third world countries but the information she stated at that point was wrong.
Xavier from New Zealand, Saint Andrews Collage had by far the most developed and immersing argument, I even believe that he beat 3rd speaker from the negative side
Strange.. I don't think it's fair. Why should Sidney have only two junior speakers, while other Globals eight (or even more in the pannel of judges) Some great debaters missed the opportunity then, because of that strange mix.
I agree with you, but I think that the issue was simply surrounding the venue, as scholar's cup may have not been able to secure a room large enough for the bowl for two seperate days (?)
im going to seoul this year for globals and can tell that this debate really helped me on how i can start my intros you go third aff. speaker! she was outstanding anyways, thanks for posting this video! it really helped a lot
Good debate. Wish they emphasized more on how great/best leaders differ from good ones though. The majority can be good leaders since most of us have an inherent empathy and understanding for each other and knowledge of leadership, however this alone amongst other things we have doesnt make Great leaders. It is nice to think the opposite though however to enfaith others. But truth is that they are the best and great for a reason and not just everybody from this 'majority' can be that. Should've focused more on how marginated people vs people from the majority/elite influence that and who does so best. Also liked how the opposition team mentioned best and good leaders aren't always the popular ones we know since its common to mistake famous people as the 'best'.
I wanted to add a comment but I was on the second floor so i’ll say it here. I’m speaking if I was on the affirmative; recently, an official legal law is being considered (the law was initiated by Trump and his minions) where in companies related to the federal government are basically allowed to choose who gets in or not by their race, gender, sexuality, etc. that includes housing as well. That’s all the news that came out, hopefully the law won’t pass. I just thought that may be a point that would be useful
being rich doesn’t mean u were born rich all the time some people built themselves so they know both aspects sometimes or they have at least felt the same thing I mean there’s a high chance cuz the rich community is limited like we have Jeff Bezos he wasn’t born rich so saying they don’t know about the struggles is kinda eh
I think there is also a point of view which was not discussed. Marginalized are not always people that face racism. It could be womens. there are lots of past history of sexism in this world between men and women and how womens are marginalized. So technically it means only womens can be leaders?!?!?!

Both Seniors and Juniors participated in the showcase, as the bowl was run on the same day for both of them.

im pretty sure these were the seniors because there is another debate of the 2019 cup that specifies juniors as the debaters
Possibly this is a senior round the juniors are just students who have senior team members thus they to must qualify with the senior.
