- A Gun Control Debate Part 1:
Dr. Greg Bahnsen vs. Dr. James Atwood
This debate was subtitled “A Debate Over Gun Control and Biblical Morality”. Does the Bible speak to the issue of gun control?
Dr. Greg Bahnsen was a minister in the Orthodox Presbyterian Church and resident scholar at the Southern California Center for Christian Studies.
Dr. James Atwood was a minister in the Presbyterian Church (USA) and served on the board of a handgun control lobby in Washington D.C.
The actual question debated was: “Is the civil regulation of firearms the scriptural norm for civil government?” The format of the debate included opening statements from both speakers followed by responses. There was an opportunity for each speaker to ask questions of the other with opportunity for a response. After closing remarks by the speakers, questions were taken from the audience.

Luke 22:36
“He said to them, ‘But now if you have a purse, take it, and also a bag; and if you don’t have a sword, sell your cloak and buy one.’”
Atwood's entire opening statement was pure emotion - no stats, no Scripture, nothing to back up his OPINION.
Atwood's opinion that people have no right to defend themselves is anti-Scriptural, anti-life, and pro-criminal.
Dr. Bahnsen is far greater than me.
I have no patience for snakes.
Thanks for listening
That Atwood is a snake indeed…
This debate made me work on my sanctification
Thank you LORD for giving the universal church your saint...Greg Bahnsen
I believe the person who argues that you cannot kill another under no circumstances is fully ignorant of history. I wish he had the opportunity to make those same arguments of people killed by their attackers in the afterlife. I wonder what the lord would say about wanting to help others and defend others. How do you accomplish that when someone is bent on serious bodily harm as a minimum?
