While I was watching this video I wondered how Nick, the Aussie snake handler, could actually handle the snake in such a relaxed manner that resulted in the snake remaining calm throughout. One would never guess that such a docile snake could pose a serious threat to one's health. Great video. Thanks for sharing this information with us.
This amazed me, too! I live in South Australia where these can be located, and it wasn't until recently through my uni degree, that I got to experience and handle venomous snakes in person (with hooks and bags). The red bellied blacks are very cautious and not darty, whereas the Eastern Brown is very defensive (some people term their defensive side aggressive)... Seeing the behavioural differences was incredible.
I will never forget the time when I was camping with my family along the Murray River. My cousin and I went bush walking. All was good until all of a sudden, my cousin stuck his arm out in front of me. There in front of us was a Red Bellied Black Snake. Lucky for us they are shy and timid, and will try to avoid you at all costs and will only strike if they feel cornered, trapped or get trampled on. They would rather use their venom on actual prey, than on a human if they can get away with it.
We frequently get these in our dam, they don't seem to spook as easily as a lot of snakes so if you walk up slow you can just watch them for a bit before they feel the need to slink off
How many do you want and what size ? I back onto marshland and see these every few days. Depending on the time of year I see small ones. I have an agreement with them. I dont bother them and they dont bother me
There was a series on Animal Planet about Aussies who survived encounters with venomous/poisonous/dangerous Aussie critters and there was a supposedly famous Aussie rugby player (I think; athlete for sure) who was taking his trash cans to the curb one night and he felt a sharp jab on his ankle. Bloke looked down to see one of these wrapped around his ankle. It was apparently there behind the cans and he didn't see it because it was turning dark. He had to kick it off into a neighbor's yard. Dude survived after going to ER and his mother found and killed (sadly) the offending serpent the next day. It was still in the area. I remember Uncle Steve-O tailing a RBBsnake on one of his shows and that thing was one of the most violent snakes he ever picked up. I was and am a Steve Irwin junkie (love/miss him dearly), but that particular RBBS he found was lashing all over the place. He picked up mambas, taipans, and cobras that didn't go at him like this RBBS.
nonplayerzealot4 snakes all have individual personalities but over all red belly’s are fantastic to handle Most zoos and wildlife parks use red belly’s when training new reptile keepers
I had no idea these snakes were so special. My girlfriend and I just ran into one of these on a recent hike up to Hanging Rock in Victoria, Australia. It was just slithering across the path as we walked along. It was pretty slow and unaffected by our presence. We got some pics and video of it as it moved into the underbrush.
Wicked Wildlife another gorgeous snake! Honestly, if I was not in the Criminal Justice Field, I would be working with snakes and how their venom could be used to cure some of the most deadliest disease known to man. I find snakes fascinating and truly should be respected in terms of what they do for the ecosystem and what they could do for medicine in the future.
My favourite snake. We have two living in our wall. We had the opportunity to watch them mate, so fascinating. They twist up together like a spring and then unwind suddenly over and over. This went on a couple of nights in a row right at our front door while we watched from our kitchen window a couple of years ago. Very happy to have their company. They are far less aggressive than the Taipan or Eastern Brown snake that we also have in this area. An added bonus is they seem to keep these more aggressive snakes away...
Ben Gauci what you actually saw was two male snakes fighting That twisting motion is what we call ritual combat, they barely move while they are mating!
Great video, I occasionally find these snakes in my backyard and they are terrifying and mesmerising at the same time. I'm sure many will say why terrifying they won't harm you and that is totally true but when you nearly stand on one because it is quietly sitting in the shade on your garden path it does give you quite an adrenalin rush. They have such an amazing deep black shine in the sun (it didn't really come across in the camera) and incredible black eyes. I learnt more about them from this video than all the other videos I have watched combined 👍
RBBs are certainly an awesome Australian snake. Also check out the king island tiger snake and collet's snake for other splendid looking aussie snakes with a cheery disposition!
wow what beauties!! is it just me or does it look like he's flattening himself out a little bit? or are they just a flatter looking snake.. Australia has some of the coolest an most gorgeous animals in the world over there!! Very impressive 😁
He does flatten himself out a bit, most of our Australian elapids do this to some extent In fact the Latin name for our brown snakes is Pseudonaja which literally means “False Cobra”
Yea there are definitely lots of snakes that impersonate the hood of a cobra, I just love the way it looks on snakes other than cobras. They're all attempting at the same goal but each has specific looks, reasons and uses for a hood. I love snakes, or any animal for that matter, that have learned and evolved to copy more dangerous species, if you can't be the bronze it's better to be the brains lol such clever creatures.
these guys are just trying to look big, rarther then look like a cobra, because we have no native cobras its not something predator here would specifically recignise, we do have some other cool cases of mimickry here though with several species of legless lizards and the little whip snake all evolving very similar patterns to the highly venomous eastern brown snake
tasha 111 were I live in Australia at my farm we have tons of red belly black snakes and they are just the nicest and have calmest temperament especially compared to coastal taipan and brown snakes
The red-bellied black is a gorgeous animal. They're pretty common around south-east Queensland where I'm watching from. My nephew saw one at his school in grade 4 and had to keep an eye on it (from a good distance) while his friend ran to get the groundskeeper to move it along.
I had a friend named Steve that found a bunch of Red-belly black snakes once when he was a little kid, and he brought the litter home to his dads horror... Same guy was killed by an animal defending itself, he was gone within minutes of the accident. He was the best
Well... America has a venomous black snake with a red belly. Technically yellow fading into red & it has a ring around its neck & its probably smaller. The venom won't hurt humans either. It's also not vicious, it's very calm. It's the ring neck snake. One of my favorites!
I grew up on a farm where there were lots of red-bellies. My brother and I used to chase and catch them for fun. They’re pretty timid and we were never bitten. We always let them go. When they shed, their scales are like satin.
I live in suburban Sydney and came across a nice Red Belly in our local park. It was looking for food next to a pond. That wasn't the first one I've seen so close to home either. We also had to put the garden hose on an Eastern Brown to get it out of the backyard. Good fun!
Fantastic video and yes that is a dream snake for sure. I have a friend in Australia that sent me a video of a red belly black snake eating a brown snake in his back yard and it was amazing.
Yes they all are mellow but im sure you could come across the odd cranky one in the wild! But the far majority would be very easy going! Beautiful snake especially to keep as a pet! As you can see as long as you move very slowly you can hold them quiet comfortably! They wont bite unless you really push them to do so and they are venomous! And quiet intelligent! Wonderful creature!
My father told me of an old bushman who used to kill snakes he found by cracking them like a whip. Whilst a group of men were cutting trees for fence posts, they came across a red bellied black snake, he cracked it like a whip, it’s head came off and went down the front of his shirt and bit him on the chest. He died. This would have been in circa 1930, no antivenene and they were also quite far from any medical assistance. Needless to say none of those men took up killing snakes after this. I find them hanging around my lil pond near my fence. I don't mind them being there the neighbour has a lot of crap in their yard which attracts rodents. The red bellies are like a natural pest/rodent control. Saves paying a few hundred and they seem to stay in their corner. 👍👍

Thanks so much I have been working quite a bit on tiktok. I'm almost up to 700 videos and 400k people following. I will be posting on here again I just have a few things to get caught up on first. Making tiktoks is a much quicker process than youtube
Australia also has a copper head snake it's a cool looking snake it looks a bit different than its American version anyway I think it would be better if you just look up videos about the Australian copper head rather than me trying to explain how the snake looks.
I know quite a bit about the Australian copperhead although I have never seen one in person. The Australian copperhead is an elapid and the American copperhead is a pitviper this is why we use scientific names
@@venomman20 I've never seen an Australian copper head in person either I watched a video on UA-cam about it I just thought I'd mention it because I like Australian snakes just snakes and reptiles in general really as far as I know Australia doesn't have any pit vipers. Thanks for the reply.

That's awesome
go earn it chill cat... lol
Why did venomman quit making videos? I liked his videos. The Florida guys can be a little pompous sometimes.
You are welcome I try to reply to all the comments I can. If I see them. No Australia doesn't have any pitvipers or vipers in general. They have some amazing snakes though. Thanks for checking out the video
@@venomman20 thanks for the answer.
Nuts
They always revert back to the "e" word to avoid explaining the logical.
MusicInspire the logical? That your sky fairy decided to create his own reality tv show one day for no reason?
Evolution makes a hell of a lot more sence!
So what is your causeless cause?

Nice video but your music is way too loud ~ had to keep adjusting volume up for your speaking and then way down for the musical parts ~ kinda frustrating & migraine inducing tbh
I have since cut all music from my videos as I'm not good at balancing noise
@@venomman20 I'm new to your channel, so I had not noticed that you had stopped using music. Maybe that's why this music stood out to me ~ it was a much older video of yours than I had previously seen. Thank you for replying to me. I could and should have stated that in a more constructive vs critical way, so please forgive my brashness. I do enjoy you and your animals very much. I can only imagine how challenging not only filming your deadly creatures is, then the whole editing aspect! Thank you for sharing your incredible animals with us! I'm such a fan!!!
You might want to tetract those words....
I have them in my area
Luke Zece lucky you, I have to drive about 90mins to get to any decent red belly habitat
It’s all tiger snakes and copperheads here
None of my body parts are for sale.
CLICK-BAIT -- where is the beautiful snake shown in the thumbnail??? That's what I wanted to see. Everyone is usually afraid of spiders and snakes but some of them are truly beautiful creatures! But often those colors are a warning to predators that they are venomous or poisonous so people should heed that too! Vibrant color in nature can often mean danger!
Anyone else notice that the snakes head looks like a Lamborghini?
