As a queer trans man who realized I was attracted to women before I realized I was trans, I immediately thought of crushes I had on girls as a teenager. But then I was like, wait a minute!
My first gay crushes as a boy were girls! Were my first gay crushes…straight crushes? 🤯😱🤣
Those crushes still feel like my first gay crushes because of social perception and reaction. Since I had not come out to myself as a trans man at that time, I perceived myself as a girl attracted to girls. There was a coming out process associated with being able to talk about these crushes freely. And I would receive a “new” label in society, i.e. “proven gay” in the “straight until proven gay” hegemonic ideology.
But, taken into consideration that I have always been a boy, it would be my first crushes on boys as a kid that were my first gay crushes!
