  • Bruce Pavitt on his relationship with Kurt Cobain, some of the shared history Nirvana & Sub Pop have with each other, and more. Sub Pop was Nirvana's first label. They released much of Nirvana's material, most notably their debut album Bleach. Sub Pop also has connections to Nevermind & In Utero.

      I was wondering if you noticed this picture at 41:30 it's very bizarre like the guy is somehow inside and outside the window at the same time....😳

    Kurt to Bruce: We are recording the album I just need $600 come on!
    Bruce: Sorry Kurt we're too broke for even 600 bucks.
    Also Bruce: I can't believe he went to a major label! :(

    Mr. Pavitt briefly mentioned his good friend Calvin Johnson from his time in Olympia. It would be very interesting to hear an interview with Calvin about his experiences with Kurt in Olympia. I haven't read a whole lot about Kurt in Olympia but it seems that was a real period of self discovery and transition for young Kurt Cobain. Olympia is kind of the primordial soil for what was eventually (beat) happening in Seattle. Regardless, another knockout interview. Bravo and praise to all involved.

      Yeah that would be great. The tattoo they mentioned was the only tattoo Kurt ever had, and he did it himself at home. It must have meant a lot to him to brand himself like that. He talks about a bit about Olympia in the official biography and the movie About A Son but only a few comments. I love his performance on KAOS, nice to hear him in a comfortable environment and the songs are great.

    This is amazing, I grew up reading about Nirvana, and Kurt talked about Bruce Pavitt and Jonathan Poneman about a million times in the one and only official biography. And in interviews etc. I always thought some day in the distant future they might feel ok about talking about that time. And here it is.

    I bought Bleach before Nevermind came out. I had no idea who these guys were, I just liked the cover. When Nevermind came out I was disappointed to say the least. However I got a copy of Horemoning witch lead me down the road to there bootleg stuff. Florence Alabama.

    It’s very interesting that things fell apart in Rome mentally in 89, having the breakdown and almost a suicide by jumping from the PA... and then he attempted suicide via pills/champagne five years later in Rome.

    • @birdiedog5
      @birdiedog5 Рік тому

      The second Rome issue wasn't a suicide attempt. There's a video of the Italian doctor that treated him online. The first issue in Rome probably wasn't a suicide attempt. I doubt he thought he'd kill himself by jumping off a PA. Maybe broken ribs or a sprained ankle.

    • @loulouhernandez4632

      Kurt was NEVER suicidal! That’s Courtney’s BS she put out in the press so that when she had him killed (not suicide) that was her made up delusional way of getting rid of Kurt. She was jealous of his career and Kurt was making plans to divorce her (due to her manipulation and cheating) and take her out of his will. She had him killed before those events were able to take place. Watch Soaked In Bleach is all I’m going to say about that.

    • @astorgaluthier
      @astorgaluthier Рік тому +1

      Yeah... That "attempt" hours after asking for divorce to his attorney and get out the bitch from the will. Yeah, pure coincidence.

    Grunge--with ideals like danger, irreverence, recklessness, attitude---was the last real revolution to shake up the music industry. There hasn't been a backlash against the corporate machine in 3 decades, which is sad.

    Didnt trust a dime on them, and actually were surprised they broke in success. They bet Mudhoney would be their TiEr 1.
