@@favoritehobbygardenerOKLAHOMA Hey Favorite Hobby - I'm circling back to this vid to talk to you - I discovered that the ravagers of my crops were rabbits AND deer - since 4 weeks ago I tried this, and it works AMAZINGLY well it's bulletproof!! Nothing is touching my green leaves and the garden is growing like gangbusters despite the presence of all kinds of animals with access to my deck where I have 2 raised planters, 9 smart pots, many other single pots, then a 12 foot row of peas to the side of the house with radishes everywhere, 3 blueberry bushes on the next side of the house accompanied by broccoli, radishes, lettuces and Kale all in the same 20 ft bed - everything gets sprayed with the chili oil goup - amazing - if I have to water by hand (most of my stuff is on drip) or if it rains, I just run around happily and re-spray. This might be the most helpful video on the intergoogly-youtubes, I mean I was just about to start making a couple hundred feet of hardware cloth fences to fortify my plantings but it's no longer necessary - many many thanks ❤ oh a final note - I was concerned with the chili oil on the plants what would it taste like would it ruin the taste - no I just triple wash whatever I harvest that was sprayed, and, no problem! Tastes great!, Also, I am not only spraying leaves I am spraying the soil and mulch around the plantings. ATTENTION ANIMALS: Salad bar is CLOSED.
Plant a big patch of clover for them to eat off to the side. The bunnies around here love clover and will only go for my plants when there is no clover left. I made the mistake of spraying weed killer on the lawn and it got rid of all the clover so they had nothing else to eat. I bought a bag of clover and spread it near the woods in the back, its grows very quick and the bunnies love it. ❤️
oh snap. I just planted red and white clovers from seed in spots I don't want to leave bare over the coming winter... hm so the bunnies will destroy that too huh, didn't realize they like it - it just germinated so chili oil is gonna be to the rescue 🙏 thanks!
Thanks for the tip! I have rabbits as pets, they're free-roaming in the garden but would like them to stop eating only some bushes and flowers. I will give it a try that, but from experience of how stubborn the little sh*tlings are, after a couple months they will start asking for some olives and feta for their "salad" as well.
You dont need to buy any special oil. Just boil a couple habanero till the are mushy and mash them up. strain with cheesecloth or coffee filter. Spray the liquid where you dont want them....
Yeah that's great for one small flower bed. We have nearly an acre of beds. Only two things work. The local bobcats and me.... We actually put a concrete strip and toe board under our fence and closed all the holes. So at least the backyard stays rabbit free. The front gets plants rabbits don't like. Our neighbor keeps asking why their beds get eaten to the ground and ours don't. I tell her it's cause I'm mean as hell and the rabbits can sense it! LOL
This forum is so weird. How would a rabbit know what is “ ok” and what isn’t. Good grief people. There are ways to repel them without resorting to cruelties. I’m shocked at this , honestly
I gave my bunny’s so many years to relocate to the pond area where there’s plants too but they kept coming closer and closer. They are not afraid of anything not even our dogs. I started throwing water balloons out of our second floor window since they won’t respond to my yelling lol. It won’t hurt the bunny, I usually just throw it close to them to scare them away. 😂 I still love them but they need to be nice to the plants. 🪴
Trust, The chili oil gets washed away after it rains. I wonder if the garlic powder might stay in the soil a little longer than the oil does? Im going to try it.
@@favoritehobbygardenerOKLAHOMA After a month the rabbits were still around but they walked right on past my garden. Thanks for the tip! Just ordered some, hope this works. I assume it should do a good job - even the rabbit repellent powder stuff with blood meal in it is still like 50% chili pepper. Damn things are eating all my sunflower starts this year... as well as many other plants.
chrisn, Blood meal is a great idea. Im getting some too. Rabbits are crazy critters! Mine have been eating my Lantana this year. They never do that. They also eat my cone flowers before they bloom. I can't tell you how many cone flowers Ive planted but still never get to see them bloom. Darn rabbits! LOL!
@@favoritehobbygardenerOKLAHOMA Well, after trying & failing with topical repellent options - I caved and bought 28" rabbit fencing to put around the garden. It was a losing battle - the fence on the other hand... is working. Oh well, the other stuff was worth a try first.
ADD dish soap to water/chili oil, and it will emulsify. When I dehydrated my large crop of cayenne peppers, I de-seeded them first. These seeds I put along my rows of raspberries as the rabbits were digging them up by the roots. They were not deterred in the least! 😮 😢
I've heard that most soaps have anti-bacterial and anti-microbial agents, and they can kill the microbes and bacteria in the soil. Those microbes and bacteria are 'food' for the plant, so personally I'd think twice before spraying dish soap onto plants and soil.
I love rabbits to especially smothered down with lots of garlic . I just surrounded my garden with chicken wire . And set traps for the rabbits ,they make a great stew .

Yes it does. Between rains it does work tho. They learn quick if your consistent with spraying after rains. They won’t come back if they get a couple tastes of it. They’ll go to your neighbors garden
Here’s a lawn tip for rabbits that eat your lawn. Grow your lawn longer, set your mower to a higher cut. They can only eat so much. Also water more gopghers don’t like deep wet soil.
My friendly yard bunny learned to avoid my garden this week after I gave my plants a dusting of red pepper. I planted some red ripper peas for her to eat along the edge of a blackberry patch. If she`ll leave them alone until they begin vining everywhere there will be plenty for her in August/September when she needs it. But she`s not a very smart garden manager from what I`ve seen.
But what if I have Mexican rabbits in my area? They love chile. LOL I live in San Diego near the Tijuana border and there are thousands of wild rabbits down here. I'll give it a try. I just planted so many flowers on my patio and don't want them eaten. Gracias!

I just sprayed some neem oil on them and I can’t buy anything off of Amazon right now because I’m waiting on a new debit card to come in to the mail. UGH! Its very frustrating. it works until it rains or you water the plants & it washes off. However, If you spray the leaves & the sun is too hot the sun will burn the glossy oily leaves. Im going to try it this year by only spraying around the plants on the ground and see if that works.
