if it seems the ancients may have practiced some form of foot binding and the iterators have nub feet, isn't it possible the ancients made the physical form of the iterators according to their culture's beauty standards, and they just found small feet attractive?
In my personal head-cannon, the Ancients were the ancestors of scavengers, mostly because of the masks, but also because they are called 'scavengers'. they were likely the poor in the ancient society and couldn't afford to get housing above the clouds, and thus evolved after the rains came to be better climbers, with more ape-like body structures and they lost most of their technology, save for how to make explosives and structure shelters.
@@NuniaBiznaz ye, that's also a good theory, that would explain the altered physiology compared to what we know of ancients, and they could have made them have mask-like heads so they would be identifiable by the vultures if any went rouge or something, as vultures need masks to recognise each-other, this would extent to other species.
I mean, that would make sense. what are the chances that a whole societal species similar to humans just all decided to ascend all at once? Here a fun little idea I had while reading the lore from the dark violet pearl: I call it great cycle theory. Basically I think the things that get dissolved by void-fluid re appear in the sky as what the pearl calls dust and rain down, slowly burying everything. This leads to great cycles of the dust forming life, that life developing into an advanced species, that species discovering void fluid and ascending, leaving structures behind that then get dissolved by the void fluid, only for it all to become the new dust that will rain down and start a new great cycle. This theory is somewhat supported by the dialogue of two sprouts fifteen brackets, who claims that the ancients had to drill through the remains of an older society that presumably hasn’t been dissolved jet to reach the void fluid.
It invites the idea that ascending in the void sea is the natural order of things, and the persistent, reincarnating life that lives on the surface is a disruption of that process, since they no longer have access to the void sea.
It's kinda cool how the acients are like an anti humanity, while humanity IRL are obsessed with life and being able to live it as long as possible the ancients are obsessed with the opposite Why? You know, the ancients supposedly "disappeared," and while yes, a lot of them probably drank void fluid, this is a time loop where one can only advance so far. The iterators don't perceive the time loop, so if they existed for long enough, they might have just existed past the point where the ancients were able to go in the time loop. If the slugcat was born after this event, considering the slugcat can only go so far backwards, if there were still ancients, you would never see them. It is entirely possible that some ancients are still alive, just back in time a bit.
There is reference to 'final public ascension,' which is when all the ancients left. So no, they didn't enter some sort of time loop or something. There is also no reference to anything like a 'time loop.' The 'cycle' of life and death is explicitly stated to refer to reincarnation. _"Then you know that death isn't the end - birth and death are connected to each other like a ring, or some say a spiral. That doesn't apply to you or me though, you are too entangled in your animal struggles, and for me not breaking that cycle is an integral part of the design. Our mantras keep repeating"_
@@bro748 Where does it reference the "final ascension?" If it was from an iterator, they wouldn't be able to communicate with the ancients that had reached the end of the time they could go to. Also, I might be thinking about it wrong, but I have been thinkin of each "level" is a day that slugcat can enter, and dying puts them backwards a day.
I don't know about everyone else but the Echoes most remind me of the void worms. The long spindly arms, all they're missing is the full body shape and colour. Perhaps they're black and gold because of the Void Fluid being "stuck" in their system due to not fully ascending?
heck, if you look at the void worms themselves you see golden growths i presume to be veins, explaining the gold if it isn't the jewelry of the ancients in the echoes signifying either the half melted theory or even them being half baked voidworms.
Just so you know, we love these vids so much because the Rain World community is extremely starved for good content on YT lol, and your content is hella good
I think the best way to measure an Ancient's scale is by the access shaft and the windows of buildings you see when you leave FP's chamber. Those concrete blocks with circular windows match the background city's architecture. Not to mention, there are various ladder-like structures around the world which support my theory that the Ancients were just a little larger than slugcat in scale.
I'm thinking, if the Echoes melted into that shape like you said they might, then the big face tentacle makes total sense, because of the huge golden masks they were always wearing
It's probably already been said by 20 other coments but did you know in the underground temple there are statues of round looking dudes with what looks like their feet being crossed. And they match with the echoes to a degree
Maybe you should make a video about the graffiti / decals of the game, there's a lot of strange things there, including the face of the ancients(?), a picture of FP and 3 more iterators, and I'm pretty sure i've seen amongus in there. There's a gif of all the decals in the steam workshop, i think that would be a nice idea for a video!
here's a funky theory: the scavengers are just ancients that never wanted to take the void bath. they resemble the ancients physically, they wear masks (albeit not clothing), and they come in the same colors as the ancients themselves
I think the way the void fluid was used to produce energy essentially involved like... ascending air. You can generate energy by creating a vaccuum, but it also takes energy to create a vaccuum. However, if you just stick some air into a container full of void fluid and shake it around... badabing badaboom, no more air, now you have a vaccuum.
I like to think Rain World takes place on an alternate reality future Earth. All the creatures bare some resemblance to real world creatures, and the Ancients are very human in appearance.
When you look at the echoes they actually really resemble the mechanical birds with long beaks They both have round bodies, long necks and similar shaped heads / the echoes also have something like crossed legs, like they sit floating, which are also straight and long like the birds'
You should know that there is no clear indication how the ancients society fell. I mean you could say that it was the void bath/sea but even the wiki says that no one knows so yeah Also there are many statues in the depths that basically proves ur theory about their body's being a human body
My idea is that the Echoes look like this- they look quite similar to the Void Worms, like am undeveloped version of one. Also on meme thing- if their whole thing was about ascetism and anyone has sexual kinky urges, there must have been ancient BDSM
Since we know the ancients wore masks of gold and other ornaments which made their heads not human-like. Following the concept that the ornaments are melted into the flesh of the Echoes, the weird head shape could be due to their flesh filling their large masks and helmets and then being melted and stretched together.
Hmmm, well getting there would be a great walk depending if they even actually had to do so. In Subterranean you can see trains/sub way cars which could say that travel for the Ancients was not all that difficult.
I was actually going to comment that those train cars would be a good place to judge the size of the ancients cause either those carts are the size of an ancient to ride comfortable or they are half the size like a mine cart also the gates would be a good measure
I like how two of your favourite games involve collapsed civilisations whose demise is related to the use of a substance called void which comes from a sea found at the bottom of the games map and whose exact capabilities are poorly defined but include the creation of new life forms
Looking at a lot of ancient pictures their mask seems to usually have a long protruding proboscis which maybe they do or do not have but this can explains why the black goo version does have long face
11:45 Hmmmm, putting my thinking cap on I think the ancients were humans who just changed overtime, by the time that they solved world hunger and the other problems that they were facing they had already gone a great change, technological advancements implemented into their body and changes to culture but even after achieving all that they still look for more........ honestly, I like to think that they're not exactly humans and are just as the texts says humanoid in nature but hey it's an open interpretation until the writers say so
They definitely can't be humans. There were civilizations before them, and humans IRL are the first creature we know of on Earth to create civilizations, so unless this planet has a wildly different history for humanity it's just not possible.
Dark Pink pearl from shaded citadel has some interesting information, based on the information from the pearl, ancients may have been cannibalistic and hermaphroditic.
i put this shit on to work and then i thought to myself wow this is just like mossbag and then he joked about being like mossbag and i felt like a school bully being asked by that teacher i really like "is that what you really are like?"
One thing with the tapestries... for all we know they might not be real representations as in art especially religious and spiritual art things are often given different characteristics in order for there to be a form of symbolism and we have no clue what interpretations of symbolism the ancients had
The Echoes sorta look like fetuses in straight jackets bowing their heads down and crossing their legs. Those three facial tentacles its two crossing legs an the one in the middle is it's cone/beakshaped head.
It’s also possible that the ancients bioengineered their forms. Maybe they used to be people but genetically modified themselves to have bird feet, colourful skin, stripes, etc
So, there's a surprising amount we can get out of just their feet by considering them in relation to other things and our world. 1. The ancient's ancestors whatever they were, were likely very arboreal, and could possibly fly, since bird's feet are like that to grip on to small, thin branches. 2. judging what farm arrays is used for and the fact they seem to have had talons, the ancients might have been primarily carnivores
My personal headcannon is that when you ascend, you turn into a void worm. Like your conciousness goes on but the dissolved matter of yout body become that void worms. That would also explain why the void worms have giant blurred things from where their head comes from, like the ancients on the tapestries.
In one of the murals we can see the gluttonous ancient compared to the blue fruits. We know the fruits are a bit smaller than slugcat's head, and the slugcat is roughly the size of a cat. We can make some size estimations from that. But the blue fruit in the mural could've just been an artistic choice and not the actual size, this is also backed by what other people are mentioning, which is that there are ladders in shoreline which are bigger, but since the slugcat can make it up the ladder, maybe they could too, it would just be inconvenient. The ancient in the mural is also holding some kind of squirrel, but that's not an actual creature in the game, but if the slugcat is roughly the size of a cat, I think it's pretty safe to say the thing could be the size of a squirrel, so this also backs my theory.

Some ramble in agonizing longevity. But the basis is agreed upon: like sleep like death, you wake up again - whether you want to or not._
_This is true for all living things, but some actually break the cycle.
Yeah that's how I've always interpreted it, because they very much appear to be encased in void fluid scales
heck, if you look at the void worms themselves you see golden growths i presume to be veins, explaining the gold if it isn't the jewelry of the ancients in the echoes signifying either the half melted theory or even them being half baked voidworms.
Not to mention, there are various ladder-like structures around the world which support my theory that the Ancients were just a little larger than slugcat in scale.
so iterator size?
@@Keyboard_Thoughts Nope, iterators are the same size... I'm talking maybe twice as large?
I'm thinking, if the Echoes melted into that shape like you said they might, then the big face tentacle makes total sense, because of the huge golden masks they were always wearing
It's probably already been said by 20 other coments but did you know in the underground temple there are statues of round looking dudes with what looks like their feet being crossed. And they match with the echoes to a degree
That gaster jumpscare was both terrifying and hilarious at the same time
Daszombes is absolutely the RW mossbag.
Even the jokes are on a similiar level. And now even the microphone.
I literally have been mentally calling you Rain World Mossbag in my head so it's nice to have you agree XD
The ancients also seem visually similar to the Nomai from Outer Wilds
Потрясающая игра!
Я то же самое подумал!
That is true!
Perhaps some clans found their own planet before the eye was finally perceived
I think the way the void fluid was used to produce energy essentially involved like... ascending air. You can generate energy by creating a vaccuum, but it also takes energy to create a vaccuum. However, if you just stick some air into a container full of void fluid and shake it around... badabing badaboom, no more air, now you have a vaccuum.
I like to think Rain World takes place on an alternate reality future Earth. All the creatures bare some resemblance to real world creatures, and the Ancients are very human in appearance.
its pretty ironic how most civilizations wish to live forever, while the ancients in RW just want to truly die
When you look at the echoes they actually really resemble the mechanical birds with long beaks
They both have round bodies, long necks and similar shaped heads / the echoes also have something like crossed legs, like they sit floating, which are also straight and long like the birds'
Let’s fucking gooo, you love to see rain world content
4:37 does this confirm that the ancients had multiple versions of their language as moon says “the language is very old and intricate”
lMAO the "rain world mossbag" gets me hard
That was really an interesting video! Great job :)
9:43 you fool, my interest for Rain World lore has already made me pressed the like button, I am 27 steps ahead of you
0:23 If I'm being entirely honest, I would watch that entire video.
Same
The very long neck and small head description matches the organism you meet at the bottom of the Void Lake
You should know that there is no clear indication how the ancients society fell.
I mean you could say that it was the void bath/sea but even the wiki says that no one knows so yeah
Also there are many statues in the depths that basically proves ur theory about their body's being a human body
These videos are so good
Keep it up
I would listen to an hour of this if I could
My idea is that the Echoes look like this- they look quite similar to the Void Worms, like am undeveloped version of one.
Also on meme thing- if their whole thing was about ascetism and anyone has sexual kinky urges, there must have been ancient BDSM
Since we know the ancients wore masks of gold and other ornaments which made their heads not human-like. Following the concept that the ornaments are melted into the flesh of the Echoes, the weird head shape could be due to their flesh filling their large masks and helmets and then being melted and stretched together.
what are the ancients? inbred glowy sky jellyfish!
You’re literally the rain world lore guy!
"What are the Ancients?"
they are old.
also when is the 50 minute long video on looks to the moon's thighs coming out?
13:38 They were probably small enough to fit in the trains in the subterranean
“we’ll never see the city in the backround” well…
good to see that rain world is still relevant to this day
"I'm done talking about ancient feet"
Hmmm, well getting there would be a great walk depending if they even actually had to do so. In Subterranean you can see trains/sub way cars which could say that travel for the Ancients was not all that difficult.
take a train to your local acid lake temple this week and free yourself from your immortal coil! now only 9,99 for children aged 5 and below!
I was actually going to comment that those train cars would be a good place to judge the size of the ancients cause either those carts are the size of an ancient to ride comfortable or they are half the size like a mine cart also the gates would be a good measure
Iv called you the mossbag for rain world before watching this video and I literally spat out my water hearing it form you … I love your content.
I like how two of your favourite games involve collapsed civilisations whose demise is related to the use of a substance called void which comes from a sea found at the bottom of the games map and whose exact capabilities are poorly defined but include the creation of new life forms
i'm gonna wait one hundred years if i need to, i'll only let myself die when the 30 minutes video talking about Ancients sex comes out
"The rain world mossbag"
Lmao
Looking at a lot of ancient pictures their mask seems to usually have a long protruding proboscis which maybe they do or do not have but this can explains why the black goo version does have long face
"The Rain World Mossbag" LOL This was AWESOME!
Feet & Lore
The echoes could also have pterodactyl heads similar to the long masks all of them have
12:45 yo they got Jordan’s on
0:24 - We won't stop you if you really wanna do it, buddy.
I love him because he is like the rain world version of mossbag
11:30 yo is the guy on the right wearing Jordans? That’s sick. I think we need an entire video about that part.
the rain world mossbag LMAO
Extremely important lore question: is the first karma symbol 1 or 0?
11:45 Hmmmm, putting my thinking cap on I think the ancients were humans who just changed overtime, by the time that they solved world hunger and the other problems that they were facing they had already gone a great change, technological advancements implemented into their body and changes to culture but even after achieving all that they still look for more........
honestly, I like to think that they're not exactly humans and are just as the texts says humanoid in nature but hey it's an open interpretation until the writers say so
It canon that rain world is not on Earth so it can’t be humans
They definitely can't be humans. There were civilizations before them, and humans IRL are the first creature we know of on Earth to create civilizations, so unless this planet has a wildly different history for humanity it's just not possible.
0:27 So I'm not the only one!
YAY
still feel ashamed, tho
We see saint in echo form only being a siloektte with tenticles, there for proving that the echos did infact have that exact body shape.
9:38 it's all about the meta of correcting one's self from the future to the past mhm *nods in agreement* 😂
saint could indicate how the ancients look like sine the saint also becomes an echoe, we can see that his shape didn't changed much
Dark Pink pearl from shaded citadel has some interesting information, based on the information from the pearl, ancients may have been cannibalistic and hermaphroditic.
9:08 They probably stopped trying to ascend through void fluid completely as they were too scared of becoming an echo
i put this shit on to work and then
i thought to myself wow this is just like mossbag
and then he joked about being like mossbag and
i felt like a school bully being asked by that teacher i really like "is that what you really are like?"
Gimme more Rain World vids.
f. e. e. t.
He actually is the rain world moss bag
I was looking for that comment/ok nvm he said it in the video lol
Ahh so this is where the local mossbag is. Good good
OH HE CALLED HIMSELF A MOSSBAG
so exited for the rain world dlc
Love the new mic
wake up babe, new daszombes lore video dropped
It’s also possible that the ancients bioengineered their forms. Maybe they used to be people but genetically modified themselves to have bird feet, colourful skin, stripes, etc
So, there's a surprising amount we can get out of just their feet by considering them in relation to other things and our world. 1. The ancient's ancestors whatever they were, were likely very arboreal, and could possibly fly, since bird's feet are like that to grip on to small, thin branches. 2. judging what farm arrays is used for and the fact they seem to have had talons, the ancients might have been primarily carnivores
Insane video!! Just a little details the ruins weren’t build by the ancient but by a previous civilization that had discovered the liquid long ago.
My idea on the why the long noodle faces is that's their gold mask bound to their face. And they all just have that idk
SOCIAL VALIDATION BUTTONS
My personal headcannon is that when you ascend, you turn into a void worm. Like your conciousness goes on but the dissolved matter of yout body become that void worms. That would also explain why the void worms have giant blurred things from where their head comes from, like the ancients on the tapestries.
The Shaded Citadel pearl that contains an ancient's memories describes them as a mother AND father so they must have been hermaphroditic.
nah they prolly had a different way of looking at gender
10:33 Honestly I hope Rain World devs and modders create something for the ruined cities in the background
guess what
@@grasseater123 yeeeeeaaaaahhhhh boiiii xD
they did it!
NO FUCKING WAY HE USED MY SCREAMING SLUGCAT AYOOOO POGGERS
10:34 your wish is granted.
It was so good 😭
do we know moons cup size yet
We actually don't know if slugcat is cat sized.
you have been tortured by having to look at ancient feet and sex... honestly if video cult will ever need to torture team cherry for an art piece or to convince them to give a developer to them. Then they will only need to draw more
Its our favorite immortal hippies everyone! /j
this was really interesting to listen to! but also you poor soul you had to stare at that one photo for far too long I could hear your soul trying to leave your body for a second there svdsvds overall good video!!
