If you really feel that it's lacking a lot of power right off idle, I have a good suggestion. I have a 2014 250 XC-W and my father has a 2014 250 XCF-W that I ride from time to time. The first thing I noticed about his bike when hopping on it was it had very little power right off the bottom compared to my bike, and I had a 2012 Honda CRF 250X before my current bike, that didn't have that problem. Curiously, I did some research and found out about playing with fuel maps on the EFI. Later that week, we took it in to our local KTM dealer and had them unlock the EFI, flash the current map and put in a European SX fuel map (Trust me, it's better than it sounds). The next weekend we took it out and boy, that map made the world of difference. Even being a 250 four stoke, you could give it some throttle and the front end would come up, it had completely fixed the power off the bottom end. So, even being different bikes (the 350 XC-F and the 250 XCF-W), it's defiantly something to think about, it made a huge difference. Also, play around with some FMF pipes. Great video too!
Watched this video before, and after buying a 16' XC350. You are right on in your opinions. I am coming off a YZ295 that is a completely different beast.
The 350 is a true love/hate bike! I love mine! FMF Core 4.1 full exhaust, rekluse core EXP clutch. I had G-force (Gary Hinkle) do my suspension XV-4 revalve and lowered the rear 15mm internal sweet set up!
2s makes torque every stroke and a 4s make torque every other stroke, this makes a difference when crawling but this also explain traction issues at times where a 2s will spin the tire and have trouble hooking up, it comes down to the ability to modulate the throttle, the operator is the traction control, you can be lazy on a 4s because torque onset is more linear....my take on the differences
@@sund5 yes I did buy it! I love the bike and my only complaint was the stock 4CS fork. I’m not sure how Kyle didn’t notice how bad it was, but it’s bad. I replaced it for the MX-Tech lucky and it’s a lot better now!
Another Amazing Video! Watching your single track clips really is making me Jones more and more. I can't wait until the AF Canyon trails open up...Meanwhile it looks like I need to explore more of the EM trails and area :)
Dirt Bike Channel If you willing to give me some trail suggestions and possible locations to a local Herriman guy I would greatly appreciate it. Im a new rider to bikes, first bike (xc-f 505 too much bike right now) but looking for some great singletrack to practice on until this crazy weather stops and the other trail systems dry up and open. Thanks again for the time and energy you put into your vids. -Josh-
Interesting review. I was surprised to see you on a four stroke after your 2-stroke vs 4-stroke video but I enjoyed this perspective. I'm the opposite in that I started with the 450 XC-W and then added the 300 XC two stroke. Such different personalities but both so fun to ride. The four stroke in the "w" is so planted and forgiving with the power making up for rider shortcomings and the 2-stoke XC light, nimble, grunter and yet a explosive fire breather like you said. I agree with the clutch statement. The XC has easier pull, less fatigue and takes more clutch control and the four stroke harder pull but , to me , less need for clutch control.....love your vids keep em coming
Scott Palmer Thanks for watching. I added a 300 XC to the stable of bikes yesterday and I'm really excited about it. This 350 XC-F is fantastic though. Other than the lack of a kick-starter, it's pretty tough to beat in lots of situations.
You need to get the gearing changed on that 350 definitely....You will be amazed by how little gearing adjustment will make the 350 come alive down low, and better suspension than the 300 think you will convert!!!keep them coming tho! Great vids, wish weather here in uk was like yours
My 15 350xcf came with a rekluse, I still use the bike 99% of the time like it's not there, but sometimes I get out of shape and the rekluse keeps me from stalling 😁 Bike came with a aftermarket can, but me adding a JD tuner helped bottom too, it's not ktm 500 torque, but almost 450 exc carb torque! First thing after riding a 350xc, I said wow to the good useable power, so that's what all the rage is about.
All in all your channel is grade! High quality video and audio, very informative and still personal! :) But I still have one question left: Where do you live approximately in America? Because those single trail look very lovely! Very sad that we have here in Germany nothing comparable. Have a good one Dirt Bike Channel
Your various review videos had a massive influence of my decision to ditch my 300 two stroke to get one of these. They are everything you described to the core! Best decision I made, I feel like it actually has more power than my old carb model 300, but delivered in a different way! But that slow speed “trialsy” grunt for technical / obstacles that the 300 had is definitely lacking (haven’t stalled it as much as you tho) 😂 it certainly makes up for it in every other way. thanks for the Great review videos really helpful.
I really enjoy your reviews man! Keep up the good work! I grew up on XR's in the AZ desert and recently moved to WA State. Single track was a whole new ballgame for me. I also had nightmares when I was a kid as my buddies always liked to make fun of my "funny bike with the lights" so when I moved up to WA I bought a YZ450F and just messed with the gearing a bit to find some bottom end. What a disaster. I hated riding that thing. I am back to the "funny bikes with lights" this time around. I have never owned a 2 Stroke and I have to say...you almost had me convinced! At the end of the day I am buying my first KTM (the only thing funnier than the bike with lights back in the early 90's was a KTM) and have decided to go with the 350 XCF-W. I plan on doing the Rekluse and a GPR damper and getting those YZ450F nightmares to stop. Looking forward to more videos man...keep it up!
I ended up with a brand new 500 XC-W due to my "stature"...I am in love with this thing. It's pretty nimble for a big bore bike! I love your videos man...keep up the great work!
What do you mean bump? Just hit the estart button for a quick second twice before cranking? Maybe this reprimes the fuel pump before trying to crank the bike over and start it. Bc on my Yamaha the fuel pump primes as soon as the key is turned on or if ON already then flipping the engine start/stop switch to the run position. I let it finish out of habit now lol and seems to fire up instantly, alittle quicker than normal.
Seems mostly like rider ability. Not being mean.... you seem like more of a novice rider at best.... bikes are much different between rider levels. I did R&D for Yamaha, it is weird getting on different brands and different sizes for sure. 2-stroke verse 4-stroke... is not apples and oranges. They are 2 totally different beast. I grew up racing 2-strokes, 30 years then switched to Honda's 250 and 450F...hated them. Liked the 250F because it was closer to what I was used to. Then when I stopped racing I bought a KTM450 EXC.... loved it. My favorite bike I've ever owned. Looking to get the 2019 350 EXC. Thank you for you honest review, well done.
Great video keep it up, saw your add on ksl. If you get the 505 would love to see some reviews on that from you. Thanks and keep the vids a comin they are awesome.
I have been doing the same comparison as my brother has a 2015 husqvarna fe350, to totally different bikes but bolth have there advantages. I prefer 300 because our local trails are very steep with roots and rocks and are very tight and narrow.
If you do the euro map you will definitely notice a bit more pep. Now if you remap it and do the exhaust you won't believe the power difference on the bottom.
Your comment on the clutch, take a look at the clutch specs for the two bikes, you might find that the 350xc-f has a CCS clutch (springs) and the 300xc-w has a DDS clutch (Damped Diaphragm Steel), I have heard that this has a lighter pull. I came across this difference when I was comparing 350 xc-f vs the 450 xc-f in 2014, and since the specs for the 2016 300xc-w have not change that much since 2014 (the year a lot of KTM's received DDS clutches, mostly on the enduro side and bigger 4T) one can take a guess that your 300 has that clutch, but you will be able to verify that quicker then I can.
absolutely not. It's not a moto bike it's a cross country bike. The SX Models are motocross. They're not different just because suspension. Every little detail and aspect between the two is completely different because they're made for two different riding types.
I like how you mentioned you can pin it and it not turn into a fire breathing dragon. Which in my experience all 450's designed for MX are just that. I wish my 450 had more throttle throw like you said. On my YZ450 it's very short so I can end up whiskey throttling it if i'm not careful or am lazy.
Gnarlington Yeah, they can come up and bite you really quickly. I honestly think this 350 is a better fit for most guys, but most dudes are too proud to admit it.
Dirt Bike Channel I love my 450, but sometimes on rocky, slower trails well.. you experienced what I generally feel. It's frustrating to an extreme level. It's either go or no, without a rekluse that is. When I had a rekluse in my 450 is was a dream machine. I need to get the full package soon enough. And on another note. I can't speak for other manufacturers, but the new yz450's feel very light due to their design, but that's at speed. Otherwise it drains on your quickly.
Sam KTM I do like it, I had the basic exp 3.0 which is the one to get. Its a different experience though, but it makes bigger bikes like the 350 and 450 a lot more manageable. However with that being said. You need to utilize every gear until you need to shift so that you don't burn it up. People knock them, but change is hard to accept. I don't think two strokes need them as much as a four stroke does in tight stuff.
Personally, I love the ride of four strokes but would love to ride and have a KTM 300 or 250. Outside of that for the KTM 350 XCF that you have I would recommend the same things I have added to my 2013 KTM 450 XCF (Love it with these add-ons!) Earth-X Lithium Iron Battery ($165) is absolutely amazing my first recommendation... the second would be to add a FWW like I did to my 450. Made my trails riding much more enjoyable as it does not flame out nearly as much! I got the Steahly 12 oz. FWW. Best money ($130) I have spent on the bike thus far. Next is the muffler (FMF $350)... helps open up and let the bottom end shine in slower grunting ride areas. Just my two cents! Great vids even though you lean to 2-stroke. To each their own :)
Dear Kyle, thank you for your excellent and descriptions about the 350! As far as i read in the KTM descriptions, the difference weight of the 250 - 103 kg, 350 - 104 kg and 450 - 106 kg is only 1 kg or 2 kg on the 450 the Six Days models will be about 0.5 kg heavier, without fuel. You said, the 250 is more lighter to handle, but only on the weight (in my opinion it cant be). Therefore what else can it be?
I’ve watched this video like 6 times. I Want a new bike lol. 350,390,500. Ktm beta husky. So many choices. The good news is we have really good choices these days.
Ya when you're use to a two stroke a four stroke feels really strange at first. I just got a KX 250 f and at first I wasn't sure if I liked it but the more I ride it the more I can see why people like em. It's a different animal for sure. It's amazing at hill climbing. I climb crazy hills without even trying.
How do like the stock 4CS forks?! I have a 2015 KTM 250 xc and I couldn't have hated the stock suspension any more.. It deflected off everything. Rocks, roots, you name it. The initial stroke is so harsh I couldn't take it. I sent my forks and shock to Kreft suspension in texas and dropped $1400 and I love it now, just wish KTM hadn't switched to that fork.. OP in my opinion.
Amazing editing and commentary. So..... if you’re doing trails but its mostly fast paced a xc would be a better bike? I’m about to purchase a new bike but you’re making me rethink my choice for the 250 xc-w to the 250 xc.
Dave roger Dave, I've ridden both the 250 (XC and the XC-W) a fair amount, one of my riding buds has had both of them for his past 2 bikes. I really like them both. The W will do better in the tight tricky stuff since it's got the heavier flywheel and lower first gear. Second gear on the W is also a fair amount lower than 2nd on the XC (XC has a very tall 2nd gear and they are the exact same gearing on 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th). Don't get me wrong, the W's still go VERY fast. It's just that the front forks tend to be too soft for pounding through the whoops at high speed. For most guys, the W is all they would ever need. Keep in mind that both bikes are off road RACING BIKES. I like like both models so much, I currently own a 300 XC and a 300 XC-W! If you think you'll be mostly in the mountains with only some desert mixed in, then do the XC-W. If you will be mostly in the desert with some mountain mixed in, do the XC. Does that help?
so what is the difference in the xc-f and the exc-f I just bought a 350 exc-f other than being street legal is there a difference so far I love it. I wanted the street legal bike just to get to the trails in my area. I got a great deal on this bike it was a demo bike and had 200 miles on it but I got it for under 8 grand.
Great Review! thanks, i own the 2014 ktm 250 xcw and in gonna get the 300 kit for it this winter,i do alot of riding and Harescrambles in the Northeast,,so Deff like the low end torque of the 2T.
I'm looking foward to change my bike in 2017. 3 choices: 350XCF, Husky300TX, Husky 300TE. After watching this, the XCF is out of the list! No kickstarter and you did not seem impressed in the tight technical riding( rocky hill climb, etc),what I mostly ride in. My TE250 2015 is amazing, just need more grunt. Good video(even if it's a 2014).
First of all, excellent quality review. Really well done. I was wondering if you would be willing to list some of the areas that you are riding in this video. I myself have a 2015 KTM 300 XC-W Six Days, I am in love with it, but interestingly enough I find the 4CS to be very harsh and I find it hard to get a good rhythm through the deep whoops on the bike without getting bent out of shape quickly. Have you found that the linkage with 4CS seems to be a better sorted packaged?
+Fluxx43 I LOVE the 4CS on my bike. Suspension is such an individual thing. What one person hates, another person loves. All of this riding is in Utah, but I don't "give out" my riding areas anymore online. I'm sure you can appreciate why that may be. I feel like finding new areas to ride is a "rite of passage" in a way. Thanks for watching.
+Dirt Bike Channel Thanks for the reply. I didnt get a response in regards to the linkage part of the question. I was curious how you feel the linkage with 4cs works in comparison to 4cs and PDS
Dirt Bike Channel - I live in Washington and do most of my riding on trails that are fairly tight, there's not a lot of open area to open a bike up and go fast. I'm currently riding a Honda CRF 230F and want to get a larger bike. I tried someone's WR 250F, but didn't like it all that much, it didn't seem to have that much more power than my 230. I was thinking of getting a KTM 350, but haven't talked to too many people with experience on those bikes. I prefer a 4 stroke. What would you recommend the 350 XCF-W or something else, what's your opinion?
+Jason Walker Hi Jason. Thanks for giving all that background. You have it nailed. With all that you mentioned, I think the perfect bike for you to try is the KTM 350 XCF-W. It's the best motor size KTM makes for 4 strokes (my opinion), and the gearing/flywheel weight is suited for tight single track riding.
Matt Keras Fuel ratio is determined by your premix oil. For instance, if you are running Motorex they suggest 60:1. If you are running Amzoil Saber, they suggest 100:1. Keep in mind that as you increase the amount of oil in your premix, that will lean you overall fuel mixture. Oil mixture and overall carburetor fuel mixture work inversely over each other. Just something to keep in mind.
I'm currently on a 2009 KTM 400 xc-w and I absolutely love it! I've rode a couple newer 350s and honestly I sorta feel like my old 400 is a way better woods bike.....not sure if you've been on any of the 400s from 08-10?
i used to own the 300exc it was an awesome bike. I now have a yz450f and love it except for the little button missing. Im thinking of installing a rekluse and flywheel weight. What don't you like about the recluse??? Ps do some more riding on your yz450f. Im sure it will grow on you. First time i jumped on it i hated it. Now love it light strong and once reklused unreal!
What jetting are you using on your 300 between 4500 and 7500 ft elevation? I have a race coming end of June that will range in those elevations. British Columbia canada
Matt Keras Depends on the temp, but a 162 or with the N4DK needle on the 2nd position will get you close. When it gets warmer, I run a 158 main with an even leaner needle (N4DL) at those elevations and it runs great.
Have you thought about checking out the Beta 300 RR 2-stroke? I think it might be a good comparison to the two in this video. From what I've read and watched people only have good things to say about it, namely the engine. Some have even gone as far as to say it feels like a 4-stroke but with all the advantages of a 2-stroke. Anyway, just thought I'd make a suggestion. Keep up the good work. You have a very underrated channel in my opinion. Also, I love that you have a BCM hat. If I were to get an AR it would definitely be a BCM.
Thank you, the channel is growing fast recently and we are getting more and more exposure. I'd like to try a beta 300. I have 2 ktm 300s at the moment, so the stable is full right now. And yes, I love my BCM AR-15.
Hey Kyle have you had any issues with flaming out when blipping the throttle on this bike my 350 does like even if I have the clutch pulled in and blip the throttle it would flame out any tips I lose about a minute a lap in a 2hour hare scramble because of this
Jayson Grindlinger flaming out is simply lack of clutch control. And the gearing is most likely too tall. Make sure the idle is adjusted high enough, Add 2 teeth on the rear or drop 1 on the front... and control your RPMs better with the clutch and you'll never stall your bike again.
@@kyjelly5524 I mean are the transmission's similar? The forks are totally different, and exc has pds in the rear. Are they both double cam? Compression ratio? Flywheel weight?
Hi Kyle, i just bought a 2016 350xcf with 10hrs,,got a couple qust for ya,, do you notice some vibration threw bars and pegs? mine does and big time at idle,i thought the 16's suppose to be smoother,,also im getting alot of flame outs (Fustrating) i ordered a new fuel rail,im hoping that helps.
tmlpony Hey, you get that sorted out?..You think the bike is flaming out because its not right?..The flame outs are tricky but once you figure it out its not too frustrating.
Yes its much better now with the new fuel rail and i turned up the idle also, the vib isn't that bad when riding it, im actually gonna be selling it and getting a new 300xc,gonna stick with the 2ts.love em to much lol
lol..I hear that a lot about 2t!...I'm gonna keep my XCF for now..It still never fails to put a smile on my face but if I was to cross over I'm gonna wait to see how the 2t injected versions are in 2018..maybe wait till 2018 man?..I think there gonna be awesome and you might wish you had waited!..You can start saving the xtra coin right now..
Watching this years after the fact. But now they make a 7 ounce clutch weight and that goes on the outside of your clutch basket. Helps a little LOL. This is why two strokes rule.
@4:40ish you mention you "love the 4CS" forks... Knowing what we know now, has your opinion changed? Overwhelming consensus is the 4CS shocks bloooow. Many tuners hate them as well it seems.
+Tyler Daniels Yeah, I'm sure it might help, but at what cost. $1000 and it take something of the purity of the ride out of it for me... I think. Especially when I can just ride a 2 stroke that doesn't need that modification to keep chugging at the really low RPMs.
oh ok, i have the 350 exc and i changed it from 14-45 to 13-48 so i could keep the same chain, but i think i need more so im deciding to either get a 50 or 52 when i replace my chain and sprockets
What is the real difference between the XC-F and the SX. The local KTM dealer here has the SX Model for $800 cheaper. What does the XC-F have that the SX doesn't.
The temp will be between 85 and 90. I ride a 2015 husqvarna te300 and it's my first 2t jetting a bike is new to me. I used to ride a 2003 yz 450 f and I will never go back!
Im still torn apart between the Beta RR 300 2016 and Ktm 350 exc six days 2016 (and also wondering if it is worth the wait for 2017 models as they might get some tech from the current motocross models and become even lighter). As Im coming from 500 exc, I dunno what to expect from a 2 stroke machine, even though everyone praises Beta for a smooth power. Oh man...really dunno what to do:(. Both such sweet bikes and I want the bike to make me happy for another 3-4 yrs...
+Dirt Bike Channel Yes, it is the weight. I can say I already got used to it as I am able to ride it in quite a technical terrain (creek beds, rock beds, jumping over logs etc.), but I am getting exhausted quite fast. I want to learn Graham Jarvis kind of stuff - balancing on a rear wheel, stoppie, trials techniques for hopping on high obstacles etc. I am intimidated to try these techniques on 500 exc, as without technique its too much bike to handle. Thus I want a dirt bike, that will behave like a trials bike, but will be able to keep up with my riding buddies on 450 4 strokes. Yesterday I borrowed a Husqvarna FE 350 (2015 model...) for a few hrs...first of all the weight difference was slightly noticeable, yet nothing mind blowing. Secondly I found the engine quite lazy - full throttle on 3rd gear and I had a feeling its accelerating too slow. Is this a normal feeling? If I do full throttle on my 500 (with Two Brothers exhaust) it will either roost or eject me. I already got used to power and overall I felt more confident on 500 exc, but probably thats due to personal setup and being used to the geometry and weight distribution. BTW based on that experience I am biased towards a 300 2stroke. Should I be afraid the bike will get me worn out quickly?
+Dirt Bike Channel Oh and it is a 2012 model with 170 machine hrs...(top end and suspension rebuilt at 160 hrs - so still good to go for another few yrs)
Thomas Botica It's got great low end, but it's geared a fair amount higher. 1st and 2nd gear are quite a bit taller on the XC as compared to the exc (XC-W in the US). I'll be doing more testing on that in the coming weeks.
It feels like it's got low power because it's made to be that way. It's a hare-scramble bike, they've mapped it (XC MODEL) to be made for woods, You don't need a fun ton of power for woods, that's why 2-strokes lack traction when in the power band, because it's too much power all at once. You need torque, not power. And Torque is what the 350xc-f has to offer. The 350 is a hill climb machine, because it's built for torque. It's practically like riding a rekluse with full clutch control.
What's up guys? I need some help. I'm 6'1 204 lbs. and fairly new to dirt bikes. I'm looking for a 4 stroke with electric start that can be street legal! Reliability is #1 for me. My friend said I should get a its 690.... Is that a bad idea? I'm thinking about the exc350f , is that a good option or should I go with the 500,690? The bike will be used on trails 95% of the time and 5% on the street to get to the trails. Thanks. Ps I had a Honda 250x and liked it but I hear ktms are the best
Depends on where you're riding. Trails, enduro, hillclimb, cross country, hare-scramble/single-track. Would all be territory owned by the XC-F... The XCF-W would be recommended for more open riding styles such as gravel roads, roads, long open doubletrack through countries, Rallying over-all. High-speed, rough terrain. the XC-F are both the same bike, but components are entirely different between the two for multiple different scenerios. If you want my recommendation i'd say overall the XC-F is the more preferred bike as it'll help with trails, and will work just fine on rally roads. The XCF-W would work better on rally roads but will not be as good in all the other real off-road situations. The "W" in XCF-W stands for "Wide ratio" meaning a long gear ratio for higher speeds, better control on higher speeds, and slightly longer acceleration.. Whenever it comes to racing a motorcycle. It all sums up to the riders skill, and NOT the bikes capabilities. The bike would help. (suspension, torque, handling.) But that's 15% being done as the other 85% is the riders capabilities to acquire faster speeds .etc .etc. The 350xc-f is the recommended model. by slight. But due to the 85% of speed being done by the rider, it's recommended to hire a trainer if you want to become a faster rider. And look into the trainer, must be someone who knows what the hell they're doing.. Lots of people will hire cheap intermediately talented riders, and will usually end up learning the wrong way compared to learning with someone of HIGH capabilities. Such as a PRO rider. Step #1 Hire a pro rider, talk about a good starter bike. step #2 buy the bike and make the upgrades/changes BASED OFF OF WHAT THE PRO TOLD YOU, if needed any. Step #3 Buy the bike, and train. Add me on Instagram if you would like more info on this subject. @max_arey_
I have 2015 model and since new it was flaming out from low revs and throttling and last 2 years have just been a B#$ch to start, quite often not starting. replaced the fuel pump numerous times - any pointers
+lifetime13 Same reason I'm not a fan of training wheels. Once you learn how to ride a bike, you don't need either :) Just kidding! I just don't like the idea of paying $1000 to keep my bike running without pulling the clutch. I understand there are benefits, but there are also drawbacks. For me the drawbacks and the cost don't outweigh the benefits. Some people would dis-agreee with me on that very much. That is okay.
+Dirt Bike Channel yeah I also agree, my uncle got a rekluse on his bike and I rode it, and I loved it but it's just one of those things that isn't worth 1500 dollars to get it done
Im so confused on what to buy i like the 2 strokes but i like the 4 strokes to and i just want a fun bike and dont have to worry about anything on it but if i get a 4 stroke it will be the 2015 crf250r.. but if i get a 2 stroke it will be a ktm 250 or 300 xc... but the thing is i dont have alot of money to keep pouring money into it i ride my friends 07 ktm 250 xc and i love it.. it does what ever u need it to do, and it is hard when my dad hates 2 stroke because of the problems he head with his when he was younger racing but i just need help but like i said i just want to have fun and not have worry about anything... but thanks and please reply that would be greatly appreciated
RC FANATICS OLIN I never have ANY problems with my 2 strokes, but in fairness they all have been pretty new. I'm partial to 2 strokes because I think they are more fun to ride overall, but the 4 strokes are pretty amazing too. Don't listen to your dad about 2 strokes. My dad is the same way :)
Ok well thank u and im just trying to figure it out because im the one looking at and buying it so if i dont have much money to spend i should get a 2 stroke
I just picked a 2016 xcf 350 here in the UK... does anyone know if the stator is man enough to run a light kit ? and does the wiring loom have the sockets already there to just plug into ??
If you really feel that it's lacking a lot of power right off idle, I have a good suggestion. I have a 2014 250 XC-W and my father has a 2014 250 XCF-W that I ride from time to time. The first thing I noticed about his bike when hopping on it was it had very little power right off the bottom compared to my bike, and I had a 2012 Honda CRF 250X before my current bike, that didn't have that problem. Great video too!
im picking up one on friday thanks for the help with your videos it answered alot of questions i had and helped me narrow my search
I did another video on this bike recently. ua-cam.com/video/SP4A0H7tF3E/v-deo.html
How do you like the bike? Reliable? I’m 225 lbs. are you a bigger guy too?
Watched this video before, and after buying a 16' XC350. You are right on in your opinions. I am coming off a YZ295 that is a completely different beast.
getting one of these tomorrow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! so stoked!
The 350 is a true love/hate bike! I love mine! FMF Core 4.1 full exhaust, rekluse core EXP clutch. I had G-force (Gary Hinkle) do my suspension XV-4 revalve and lowered the rear 15mm internal sweet set up!
Did I mention I have a 300 2 stroke?
Paul Weidl
2s makes torque every stroke and a 4s make torque every other stroke, this makes a difference when crawling but this also explain traction issues at times where a 2s will spin the tire and have trouble hooking up, it comes down to the ability to modulate the throttle, the operator is the traction control, you can be lazy on a 4s because torque onset is more linear....my take on the differences
Very good assessment on that.
brilliant review, so well edited and its clear a lot of effort was put into this! thank you!
Thanks for the review I plan on getting this bike in few weeks sound like I am going love it
+AbagDro It's a great bike... that is for sure.
Great review Kyle! I have the opportunity to purchase a 2014 KTM 350 XC-F and this review has helped me a lot in my decision.
Dis you buy it?
Are you happy with it? If yes why? :-)
I can't wait until the AF Canyon trails open up...Meanwhile it looks like I need to explore more of the EM trails and area :)
jwilki46 Yeah, I hit up those trail in early and late season when I can't ride other places.
Scott Palmer 450 XC-W and a 300 XC... now that is a really nice situation to be in!
*****
That is very possible.
Scott Palmer بررف
I’ve noticed a HIGE difference going from the stock 48 rear tooth sprocket to the 53 tooth. You can comfortably ride in 2-3 gear on any terrain
Pull in the clutch, rev it, let go of clutch Boom it feels like a 2 stroke😂
I have the 2015 model of this bike, and absolutely love it.
+Taylor Stewart yeah, it's a pretty sweet bike.
You need to get the gearing changed on that 350 definitely....You will be amazed by how little gearing adjustment will make the 350 come alive down low, and better suspension than the 300 think you will convert!!!keep them coming tho! Great vids, wish weather here in uk was like yours
Recently our weather has been quit wet. Rain every day for 3 weeks. Dries up just enough for some really great dirt though.
My 15 350xcf came with a rekluse, I still use the bike 99% of the time like it's not there, but sometimes I get out of shape and the rekluse keeps me from stalling 😁
Bike came with a aftermarket can, but me adding a JD tuner helped bottom too, it's not ktm 500 torque, but almost 450 exc carb torque!
First thing after riding a 350xc, I said wow to the good useable power, so that's what all the rage is about.
Thank you for sharing this video, i am learning a lot of the enduro world, greetings from Ensenada Baja California Mexico.
Guillermo Valenzuela Greetings from Utah!
Hey man, great review! I picked up the 2015 model yesterday and I can really see what you meant about the heavy clutch.
+Roman sandbank It's not bad, but it's a harder pull than the 2 strokes I have been used to.
what bike did you race on that drag race?
Definitely a good bike and even a better review!
Thank you that you made this video!
DerUnbbekante I'm glad you got some value out of this.
All in all your channel is grade!
High quality video and audio, very informative and still personal! :)
But I still have one question left:
Where do you live approximately in America?
Because those single trail look very lovely!
Very sad that we have here in Germany nothing comparable.
Have a good one
Dirt Bike Channel
DerUnbbekante I'm in Utah, near Salt Lake City. I'd love to go riding in Romania, over near you!
Your various review videos had a massive influence of my decision to ditch my 300 two stroke to get one of these.
They are everything you described to the core! Best decision I made, I feel like it actually has more power than my old carb model 300, but delivered in a different way!
But that slow speed “trialsy” grunt for technical / obstacles that the 300 had is definitely lacking (haven’t stalled it as much as you tho) 😂
it certainly makes up for it in every other way. thanks for the Great review videos really helpful.
Bronco75 I think you will really like that 350 XCF-W. I haven't had the chance to test one yet, but I hope to in the future.
I ended up with a brand new 500 XC-W due to my "stature"...I am in love with this thing. It's pretty nimble for a big bore bike! I love your videos man...keep up the great work!
I am going to look at this same bike. You have told me exactly what I want to know. Thanks
Good bike for a heavier rider? Coming back to the sport?
I just got one of these 350 xcf and I put a reklus clutch on it and it make a world of difference
With the 350 and the starting issue! Just bump the starter twice before you go into cranking it over! Works great for mine!
Been riding a KTM 250 EXC-F for 4 years and honestly the kick starter is surplus to requirements save the weight not a problem for me
Seems mostly like rider ability.
Thanks and keep the vids a comin they are awesome.
urmamaha Yeah someone from Centerville picked it up in. He's got an amazing bike now for a good deal. Nice guy too.
Fantastic video thanks for all that info!
I'm curious what you think about the Yamaha WR450(F?) as a full time single track trail bike.
I have been doing the same comparison as my brother has a 2015 husqvarna fe350, to totally different bikes but bolth have there advantages. I prefer 300 because our local trails are very steep with roots and rocks and are very tight and narrow.
Matt Keras Yeah, the 300 two-strokes make a living in those areas.
Kyle, did you ever get around to doing the fuel milage comparison test between the 3002T and 350 4T?
If you do the euro map you will definitely notice a bit more pep. Now if you remap it and do the exhaust you won't believe the power difference on the bottom.
Nice review... just re-gear it and its ever bit the animal as the 300. 👍I've had both.
Zaphod Peters Interesting. I'll have to pay closer attention to this.
Would this be any good for motocross once set up correctly?
absolutely not.
Dirt Bike Channel I love my 450, but sometimes on rocky, slower trails well.. you
experienced what I generally feel. It's frustrating to an extreme level.
It's either go or no, without a rekluse that is. When I had a rekluse
in my 450 is was a dream machine. I need to get the full package soon
enough.
And on another note. I can't speak for other
manufacturers, but the new yz450's feel very light due to their design,
but that's at speed. Otherwise it drains on your quickly.
Gnarlington How do you like the rekluse? Is it worth the money?
Cameron Fehrman Thanks for those suggestions.
A rekluse is a must for these
I’ve watched this video like 6 times.
OOO YESS
Ty for the Reviews and....yes you need to practice more with 4 stroke.
+Rui Lopes Your mom needs more practice :) I own them both bro.
Which KTM would be good for trails with low end torque and could you do anything to this model to give it that?
Rekluse clutch is awesome. Should have been a standard but when e-bikes take over the debate will be a mute point.
This is very helpful. Thanks for the input, and by the way the way you format videos you deserve many more views.
Is the 300 hard to ride ? Does it get all crazy on you if your not carful ?
so what is the difference in the xc-f and the exc-f I just bought a 350 exc-f other than being street legal is there a difference so far I love it.
***** Glad you liked the review. Sounds like you have a really nice setup with your current bike.
2:50 - The famous (modern) 4 stroke stall. Fine, fine, fine, cut!
krazed0451 Yeah, I had to adjust my riding after that little experience!
You gotta use more clutch on 4t in that stuff😄
I'm looking foward to change my bike in 2017. 3 choices: 350XCF, Husky300TX, Husky 300TE. After watching this, the XCF is out of the list! No kickstarter and you did not seem impressed in the tight technical riding( rocky hill climb, etc),what I mostly ride in. My TE250 2015 is amazing, just need more grunt. Good video(even if it's a 2014).
Yes, the TX300 is a really sweet bike. I got to ride along with 2 guys that were testing them. They really liked them.
Xxxd
+Jason Walker The bike in this review was the XC-F. I think you would need the XCF-W as you suggested.
Thanks for the feed back. I look forward to checking out all your other video's.
Well thought out review ,awsome .d
What fuel ratio do you run at high elevation high temp? I appreciate your quick responses and I love the dirt bike channel!
It's a four stroke, you don't mix oil!
+Stephan Karolyi Can you do another feature on your yz450f?
+Stephan Karolyi Sold it. I've owned 2 of them and I can honestly say, I don't like them very much for most of the riding I do.
How about the 500 4 stroke?

Is this over at 5 Mile? Trying to find some good places to ride in Central Utah. I live in Eagle Mountain
Hey Kyle have you had any issues with flaming out when blipping the throttle on this bike my 350 does like even if I have the clutch pulled in and blip the throttle it would flame out any tips I lose about a minute a lap in a 2hour hare scramble because of this
Jayson Grindlinger I had this same problem all it took to fix was to adjust the idle speed to 2200 to 2300 Roma runs great now
Jayson Grindlinger flaming out is simply lack of clutch control. And the gearing is most likely too tall. Make sure the idle is adjusted high enough, Add 2 teeth on the rear or drop 1 on the front... and control your RPMs better with the clutch and you'll never stall your bike again.
Does the XC-F have motocross style gearing like a long first gear with a closer fifth gear? And how does it compare to the XCF-W gearing?
MetalMike55 1st and 2nd gear are quite tall (high). Then the 3rd-6th is the same as the XC-W.
Has a really quick top speed
I wonder if the exc 350 would be any different? Would it be any better for tight rocky technical stuff?
The Moto fixery probably worse because of all the emissions stuff
@@kyjelly5524
I mean are the transmission's similar? The forks are totally different, and exc has pds in the rear. Are they both double cam? Compression ratio? Flywheel weight?
The Moto fixery I’m not even sure. Ktm is confusing lol. I want one though
Yes its much better now with the new fuel rail and i turned up the idle also, the vib isn't that bad when riding it, im actually gonna be selling it and getting a new 300xc,gonna stick with the 2ts.love em to much lol
lol..I hear that a lot about 2t!...I'm gonna keep my XCF for now..It still never fails to put a smile on my face but if I was to cross over I'm gonna wait to see how the 2t injected versions are in 2018..maybe wait till 2018 man?..I think there gonna be awesome and you might wish you had waited!..You can start saving the xtra coin right now..
yep the 2018 is my goal,Fuel inj plus air forks,,gonna be great for the Jdays and Netra haresrambles we do in New England,,Braaaaap!
What bike did you race in the first clip?
Are you in Utah or Colorado? Where are you riding? Looks amazing
***** Utah.
do you think a reckless clutch would help with the technical stuff?
Yes that should help
+Tyler Daniels Yeah, I'm sure it might help, but at what cost. $1000 and it take something of the purity of the ride out of it for me... I think. Especially when I can just ride a 2 stroke that doesn't need that modification to keep chugging at the really low RPMs.
what gearing did your 350 have when you rode it, and would you change it?
Jacoby Montgomery It was stock with a 13 up front and 50 in the rear. I think I'd go to a 52 tooth in the rear, on the next 350 I own.
oh ok, i have the 350 exc and i changed it from 14-45 to 13-48 so i could keep the same chain, but i think i need more so im deciding to either get a 50 or 52 when i replace my chain and sprockets
What is the real difference between the XC-F and the SX. The local KTM dealer here has the SX Model for $800 cheaper. What does the XC-F have that the SX doesn't.
Wide range tranny, 18 inch rear wheel, kickstand, and bit softer suspension. If you ride desert, single track, or off road, I'd stick to the XC-F.
Love the vid. Nice bike, I've got the 04 ktm 350 exc special R and I enjoy the feel of the 4 stroke.
Hey Kyle, what's the difference between the XC-F and the EXC-F?
sydrem2011 exc is street legal
xc-f is for off road, exc-f is dual sport.
It would be helpful if you would indicate the model year in the title.
+Chris Collings Didn't want to be too specific, but I see your point. This was a 2014 model.
The temp will be between 85 and 90. I ride a 2015 husqvarna te300 and it's my first 2t jetting a bike is new to me. I used to ride a 2003 yz 450 f and I will never go back!
Matt Keras You will be able to go with the leaner settings that I suggested if it's that warm.
Man I love that trail at 9:30:-)
Alex Dorsey You've been out there on that one, right?
Yup that place is killer!!
Alex Dorsey Remind me what you are riding again...
I ride an 03 yz450f. Its a bit of a beater but I like it:-)
Alex Dorsey I do to. I have however taking it pretty hard into some of those g outs.
They have apps that can show speed and time. You should try this again with the 19. One app I like is strava
+michail1963 Either one of those bikes would be good. How old is your 500? What is the reason you want to try something else, is it weight?
Would you choose the 250 over the 350 for an intermediate rider. no track just woods.
Most guys would really, really love the 250 version. I think I might like the 250 version better since it feels a bit lighter...
+Dirt Bike Channel I read a report that the 350 is only 4lbs heavier?
I don't doubt that. I'm planning on doing some testing and ride them back to back soon. That should be eye opening...
+Dirt Bike Channel you should do that before the 20th. I'm buying a brand new 250 or 350 the 20th :) it would help me a lot!
+Dirt Bike Channel or help me solve this, coming from a crf250r. would you go with the ktm 250 xcf w or 350 xcf w?
Does the xc300 2t have the same low end grunt as an exc300 2t?
Get the 350 exc f
Is this model (350xcf /350 xcf w) recommended for a starter?
What about the different map?
oh and also the xcf-w has a backup kick starter..
what year is it?
I have 2015 model and since new it was flaming out from low revs and throttling and last 2 years have just been a B#$ch to start, quite often not starting. replaced the fuel pump numerous times - any pointers
killer review..
Mine is a 2017 same as 16 I believe at least with engine
I'm trying to find a bike for around 3k but can't find any good deals can I get some help and what I could get on my budget
Why are you not a fan of the recluse clutch?
+Dirt Bike Channel you make quality Videos
Dirty - Zj whatcha get
I just picked a 2016 xcf 350 here in the UK... does anyone know if the stator is man enough to run a light kit ? and does the wiring loom have the sockets already there to just plug into ??
why aren't you a fan of a reckluse clutch?? I thought it would be a good choice for this bike?
Logan Smith get a Clake one finger clutch and you'll have a ball..Rekluse gets boring VERY quickly.
Do you know how long the gas will last?
you have to do ktm 500 exc
