Because in asia you don't just marry your spouse, you also marry their family. I'm from indonesia and i've seen enough parasitic relationship where family's burden (debt, mortgage etc) suddenly falls to their daughter/son in law. Also many cases where retired parents just don't work anymore, and their kids must take the financial burden. How can you expect young people to raise kids in such a toxic society?
Not in All of Asia and not in all societies of Asia. It's mostly those that still are connected lots to Joint Family System or who aren't good with Financial Planning and Management - Indonesia could be 1 while another neighbour is 1 of Asia's Worst for it even though they are slowly improving - Philippines
@@rmotfamily9846 I dont understand what are you trying to say. Why is the Philippines in your topic. The host announced only 3 countries mainly India, China and Indonesia. Whats the connection?
Discussion was on Parasitic + Toxic Relationship - Asia. My reply was it's Not There in All of Asia as in Nations with (1) Lot of Joint Family System (Collectivism) + (2) Ones who Aren't Good with Financial Planning & Management. Indonesia may have it while Philippines Too has it as Philippines is Also a Nation with Joint Family System (Collectivism) & 1 of Asia's + World's Worst for Financial Literacy THOUGH Improving (There under Filipino Mainstream News Too) - Philippines is Ranked Amongst World's Worst for PISA Assessments for Mathematics, English + Sciences where the Country Doesn't have World Top 300 University under the Reputed World University Ranking Systems (Philippine's Top University World Ranking comes after Mainland China, HK, Macao, Japan, S Korea, Malaysia, Saudi Arabia, UAE, India, Israel, Qatar, Taiwan, Turkey, Brunei, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia, Lebanon, Iran, Oman, Pakistan, etc). Yes, Philippines is Improving But Is Behind Singapore, Brunei (High Income Nation though Not Developed Yet), Malaysia, Viet Nam that would Replace Thailand currently in 3rd Spot in that region, Indonesia, Thailand - after those nations comes Philippines. Philippines, Yes Has Some Exports including Semiconductors But Philippine Semiconductor Sector Isn't That Huge. Philippines Imports A Lot Including for Food while Philippine Exports Is Just Bit. Philippine Manufacturing Isn't in World Top 30 because Inflation is High Too + Infrastructure Still Behind + Of Course, Policies (That's how the Rich of Philippines who are the New Chinese Filipinos who landed in Philippines in Last 100 to 150 Years Control Philippines followed then by the Rich Spanish Filipinos + then the Rich Indian Money Lender Filipinos where They Control Filipino Assets of Lands, Properties and so on while MOST FILIPINOS FACE CHALLENGES). Philippine Stock Market is So-So Too. So, Philippines is IMPROVING BUT HAS A LONG WAY TO GO (60 Years Ago, Philippines Was Expected To Do Well But Corruption Mixed with Politics Messed it Up where Philippines Fell Behind to Singapore, Brunei, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia and Last Couple of Years to Viet Nam Too). THIS WHOLE DISCUSSION RELATED TO PARASITIC RELATIONSHIP + TOXIC SOCIETY GOES TO (1) NATIONS WITH JOINT FAMILY SYSTEM where COLLECTIVISM IS MORE where SOME ASIAN SOCIETIES HAVE LESS COLLECTIVISM/JOINT FAMILY SYSTEM with MORE OF INDIVIDUALISM But Less Individual Side to Western Nations (JAPAN, SOUTH KOREA etc have More of Individualism and Less of Collectivism/Joint Family System COMPARED TO PHILIPPINES But have MORE COLLECTIVISM/JOINT FAMILY SYSTEM Compared to MANY WESTERN NATIONS that are MORE INDIVIDUALISTIC - It's there under International Relations Research Papers when doing INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS Subjects + Work Experience Too where yes, I have Work Experience in Business + Technology for 15+ Years and so have an interest in the Business, Tech and Cultural Aspects Too while Traveling and Living Worldwide Too). (2) The Other Way of Getting Parasitic Relationship + Toxic Society - WHEN TERRIBLE AT FINANCIAL PLANNING and MANAGEMENT (Part of Financial Literacy) where PHILIPPINES IS 1 OF ASIA'S and WORLD LEADERS AT IT (USA also has Challenges To Financial Literacy where A LOT OF Americans FAIL WITH FINANCIAL PLANNING AND MANAGEMENT WHILE Australians BEAT the Americans at Financial Planning and Management through WORLD FINANCIAL LITERACY RANKINGS). Good Luck to PHILIPPINES, INDIA More than CHINA + INDONESIA as Latter 2 HAVE LESS ISSUES Compared to Former 2 Nations BUT OVERALL, ALL 4 Nations Still Have a Lot of Issues
Its selfish to have children if you are financially unstable. As someone who has visited India and seen the level of poverty faced by your citizens, population declining seems like a blessing.
@Vedicseeker4 you expect a random commenter to be sympathetic? He said nothing less then the truth and the problem in India people don't want to accept and be better then yesterday.
😂 she asked the daughter in front of her mom and grandma if she wants to get married. Of course she’s going to go ‘hell yea!’. With her friends it’ll be ‘hell no!’ 😅 We’re Asian, we know how to survive the family 😅
Women have made it clear having a child is oppression. It's the governments job to protect its people though it can't let women genocide themselves, it won't force birth against people's will but it should collect eggs. Then just grow its own babies put them in boarding school. The babies will need fake moms at first, so this will be the old women who have realized they want baby but too late so they can go play with state babies
Sounds like a great plan. Until your retirement comes up. Or you become less mobile and more dependent on others for your daily care. Who is going to take care of you when you are old? Your parents will be gone. Siblings will be just as old and infirm and so are your friends. The answer to that: the younger generations. Don't get me wrong, I'm not marrying either and i have the same view, but we need to be realistic here.
No affordable housing, no affordable anything, no work projects for women to comeback after kids, no quality of life = no kids/future taxpayers = no problem of mine 💯💯
Not quite right. Your ancestors were poorer than you but most of them had a bigger number of children. People of more developed countries tend to build smaller family, or get married late compare to people of poorer countries.
@@Apache1970 I'm Brazilian, and the fertility rate isn't that bad. However, everything is already more expensive, even public transportation. Quality of healthcare is getting lower, and pensions private or public are already getting small EVERY year. By the time gen Z retires, we ALREADY won't get any, or very small pensions, and everything will be expensive. There will only be poor and rich, no middle class. Society is already built to fail, be it by capitalism, or low birth rates, so adding a kid on top of all that just seems like a stupid expense, that could be used to build your own retirement... Hopefully some Luigi Mangione revolution will happen 🙏🙏🙏
Not that I'm a fan of corporations but who is going to take care of all the elderly people? South Korea is expecting 50% of the population to be elderly starting in the 2070s. I don't think you thought this through.
This is beyond stupid. Population collapse means no one to work and provide the day to day services you expect. Customer service when you call your bank or phone company? Trash pick up? Repair man? Who will maintain the cities and roads? Should we start cordoning off parts of cities to be left for decay because there aren't enough people to maintain them? Also, less people means products will be more expensive. Travel? Forget about it. Airfare will be overpriced and the places you go won't have services. Within 50 years, the nonsense that Gen Z are engaged in will be fully realized, but it will be too late.
If governments want birthrates to soar, at least give us, the current group of adults, something to help in starting a family. I am currently 28 and single for a few years now. My parents are concerned as it had been years since I introduce someone I am dating and they are eagerly waiting for grandchildren. I also want to start a family of my own but with how costly it is to raise a child now and to even own a home, it makes me disilusioned. I would rather die alone than subject any of my future children to a childhood where I would not be able to provide for them.
That's the whole point. Everybody wanted to have kids in the 20th century and now we, as a human species, have hit a wall with overpopulation in this century.. There is a reason it is so expensive to have kids, and that is probably a good thing. This planet has taken a huge massive hit with our insatiable greed and the massive species loss is just awful.
A.cMc1997 I'm a single (divorced), Asian-American (Filipina-American: Born and grew up in the USA/US. I still live in the USA/US) mother of 2 teenagers and in my early 50s. I was 2 years older than you when I got married. I was 34 when I had my first child. When I was 39, I had my second/last child. I got married and my kids later than most of the people I went to high school with. Like you, I wasn't sure if I'd ever get married and have a family. By Filipino standards, I was considered old because of when I got married and had my kids. I hope that you'll find someone special to marry and have a family with someday.
People are greedy. They only want kids when they have their dreams aligned. Right now the only people in the US having kids like that are foriegners because they think they hit the jack pot. Eh. Well, hitting a wall is just an era. In 200 to 300 years and after a war or famine, we will bounce back. Our families may be dead but the world will continue.
I always find it quite interesting how older generations expect their children to reproduce when they won’t be the one footing the expense. Tell your parents to buy you a house, contribute to your retirement account, and commit to babysitting their future grandchildren for free if they want some so badly and see how eager they are to be grandparents then.
Asia is overpopulated. So declining population is good for now. This scenario is only problematic for Western countries who look for cheap labour in Asia. Let them cry.
Not quite. Sure, Asia is overpopulated in the present. But this means that the it the future, there would be a lot of elderly to take care of as opposed to the number of adults that could care for them. Meaning there would be a time where there is no future.
Western countries don't care that much because there's always another country that can do the cheap work Asian countries are doing. The issue is that without children to replace the current adults then in the future you'll just end up with a bunch of old people and not enough adults to take care of them.
Let's assume it is overpopulated (but I don't believe it is). There is a big difference between making population smaller versus crashing population and having a lot of old people to support.
It will be your problem though... when you're old laying on the floor with a broken hip and there will be no one (no young able bodied ambulance worker) to scoop you up and bring you to the hospital. In Japan they often only find rotting bodies of the elderly because the neighbour's complained about the smell. Most die natural, some fell and broke a hip and died of thirst... thats no joke. Need to go to the hospital? Well too bad buddy, I hope you have a big fat wallet. Because nurses will be in short supply. Your life savings gone in 2 short weeks.
You are right, but you telling a single individual to have 1-3 children still doesn’t do anything to increase their chances that they will be taken care of in old age because the population issue is GLOBAL. Why anyone would have kids now is unthinkable to me. You are just guaranteeing that your child(ren) will be stuck with the other kids facing a massive avalanche of old people. In most people’s selfishness to fulfil your own desire for children, they doom their children to a shittier life than any other generation before.
@@mysterioanonymous3206 lol the situation that you describe is already happening (lying on the floor with a broken hip with no one to find you) with boomers who had kids. There are many many people in the world who should never have been parents but did so out of social expectation, and left behind a legacy of pain and suffering, only to die alone. This kind of "what will happen when you're old?" mentality is incredibly selfish. People should have kids because they want to care for them and see them grow and develop, and respect them as individuals in their own right. They are human beings, not insurance for your old age. I know that any child that I bring into the world would face the consequences of decades of short-sighted govt policy, and have an incredibly difficult life with little chance of building a good quality life for themselves, in addition to dealing with the burden of caring for me. Why would I subject anyone to that? Choosing NOT to have them is an act of love to the child.
@@mysterioanonymous3206 Well if there are fewer available people to do the ambulance job then the salary of an ambulance worker will rise, so there won't be any people working for a minimum wage job and therefore they will be able to live a normal life.
There is no "demographic dividend" unless the working age people are actually working, healthy, and literate. Other considerations are environmental degradation in all its forms. Quality of life is more important for all of us than quantity.
interviewing a family with 3+ kids and only interviews the father who desired a large family. What was the physical and emotional toll on the mother? Women all over the world have come to understand that motherhood has been a historically unbalanced and even deadly deal.

@ closing the borders would be a stupid idea- if you want up & bihar to catch up- then link incentives and central transfers to metrics that need to be attained. Use the metrics by looking at positives from South Indian states. There will disparities within a country- Focus need to be on quality education/ skills training
Look at these economist, they more worry about shrinking cheap labour force than the reason of why none want child anymore. That actually highlight the main reason of why we are aging vast.
The problem is that people facing financial difficulties and lower education are those who have more kids, while the richer ones are reluctant to have kids. Then the future workforce will be dumber
It's such a burden to get married in India in the first place. It's not called "the big fat wedding" for nothing. People don't want marriages anymore, they just want to be bought and sold in the name of outdated customs for societal show-offs... much evident by the exponentially rising divorce rates and the lack of suitable quality employment in the country.
I am surprised you didn't mention china 's one child policy that ended only a few years back. That explains why the birth rate drop curve in china is so much different than in India.
The population decline of the three countries mentioned is actually not surprising. History shows definitely when a country moves from an agrarian system to one of industrialization, birth rates decline due to several reasons. Cost of living increases, city/suburban dwellers don't need children as do farmers and the introduction of feminism.
@@mysterioanonymous3206 Education actually decreases fertility. Bhutan isn't an industrialised nation but it has a well below replacement level fertility. Some say it stands at 1.4 while other say it's slightly higher at 1.8. The country is now trying to get people to have more children.
Yessss. In a industrialized society, kids are a burden. They can't work or contribute to anything, and are just parasitics. They cost education, health, food, room etc. If their only value is emotional, it's better to adopt a pet LOL
It's insane to think that 1/3 of India's population growth will come from only 2 states and that Bihar's fertility rate will only dip below replacement level by 2039 while Kerala's fertility rate dipped below replacement level in 1987. I don't understand how a country can be so severely lop sided in development. This is like comparing two different nations and their development. I mean India's states really are like countries. This isn't a good thing for India. There will be serious issues when entire states (which have their own ethnic groups) begin to disappear while other states (with different ethnic groups) continue to grow in size. South China Morning Post and BBC recently published articles about this and from what I understand, India seems more and more like a country made up of smaller countries. As the lady said however, maybe this might help India become more united and integrated because the different groups will be mixing together unlike before.
UP,Bihar and most of North India is huge state, they are like the chest of our nation. Where as southern states are smaller and the landmass tapers towards the sea so population low, how ever education level and migration abroad is higher in southern states , hence fertility level dropped. The family ,martial culture, women empowerment in Bihar vs southern states is incomprehensible, it's like comparing brazil vs sweden, from culture to language, everything is different
@@Hey_puppets What a thing to ask but since you asked such a question, I'm going to give you a fitting response to such a question. When I look at India, most of the areas that are the most socially developed are the "Dravidian" areas whereas the North Indian areas which are non-Dravidian are the least developed and the ones that deal with a lot of social problems that are a burden to society. So let's see, do I want more Dravidians? Yeah I think I do since they're the ones in India that seem to actually be able to evolve and develop (them and the Sikkimese).
@@Hey_puppets I'm not from India but the comment is indicative of what I said in my previous comment: the states act more like countries. Why even ask such a question? Indians are Indians, shouldn't the idea be that all should be viewed as one to help the country develop?
Cost of living is not the real excuse. There are plenty of poor people in poorer countries having babies, both now and across history, cost of living never stopped them No, the real reason is when a country modernizes, there are more options for happiness and fulfillement. Before, having a large family was your only source of accomplishment and happiness. And stop framing this as a bad thing. World population has doubled in what, 50 years. The world was fine then, it will be fine if population halved to the same number as well.
I absolutely agree with the first half of your statements. However, declining birth rates does comes with REAL problems for societies and countries. It means a decline in Global youth energy for financial and technological progress. Less taxpayers and Manpower to take care of the elderly moving forward.
List the reason 😅 everyone with this argument always conveniently leaves out the most important part. THEY DON'T HAVE ACCESS TO PORTABLE WATER LET ALONE BIRTH CONTROL CLINICS OR ABORTION PILLS, they don't have children because they want to, they have children because they cannot prevent it. Tons of them would get abortions instead of birthing another human being whose life is going to be thwarted by the sheer poverty that surrounds them
Cost of living isnt an excuse for some. Its not an excise for poor and /or uneducated. Richt and/or educated people see the struggles and want to set up their kids for success and comfortable live. You accomplish that with one or two, but not with 4 anymore. Plus your reasoning with there being more and different goals. Its true. And still these goals are mostly reachable for rich and educated people.
@@bingoSK9 Don’t forget that we’ll get Old and vulnerable someday too (if we are lucky) and will especially need companionship which mostly comes from having Children or Grandchildren.
When Asians treats their children as retirement investment, this is what happens, more people my generation are scared to have children of their own having to experience sending their younger siblings to college before even turning 25 yrs old
Mammal Kids are raised by community groups not just by mother or father-mother. Parents make sure of things that their kids are fed well, taken care of basic needs. Except that whole community is needed to discipline them, train them, teach them well. Why everything burdening over just two parents, we are mammals for a reason, we need community group collaboration to bring society. Modern day society is dystopian if we are changing human way of life to isolated robots.
CNA Insider is usually ok but i notice a decline in quality the past few eposides (especially this one and the education episode) with reporter Sruthi not probing deep enough and not being critical of her interviewees' honestly and credibility. You are asking non-anonymised people in front of their parents... Of course they will give whatever answer appeases the parents.
It is a global issues with western countries also. Use of AI and immigration from Africa would also help. India can benefit but I do not believe they have the institutional backbone to thrive like China
African only immigrate to Europe or US not to Asia. You can expect Rohingyas the one who will immigrate to anywhere. As they don't have backbone to fight for they own land
Imo china being wise here, most people mostly men decided to be single because of high unemployment rate... if china has low unemployment rate the better chances. As the economist say: If you're not financially stable, you cannot move to another class and stay in lower class
This video offers a compelling look at Asia’s fertility decline, blending personal stories with expert insights. However, it leans heavily on urban perspectives, overlooking rural realities where economic and cultural pressures often drive higher birth rates. A deeper exploration of systemic inequalities-like access to education and healthcare-would have added balance. While it highlights the tension between personal choices and government policies, it misses an opportunity to discuss how these nations can address disparities while respecting individual freedoms. A thought-provoking watch, but a more nuanced approach would have strengthened its impact.
The Total fertility rate of Tamil Nadu is 1.4 Which is the lowest among the Bigger states in india. It is really alarming to see the population shift and migration happening faster than its expected.
It is an inevitable trend, the world will have to learn to deal with it, in the end a world with less people will be better for the world that sustains us and not incurring into ecological overshoot. Add to the equation less consumption and more fairness.
India still has a growing population you go to rural areas in Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh there are still people having even 5 children I can say out of all the countries India needs a 2-child policy to control population estimates show India's population will reach 1.7 billion by 2050 which is a serious problem

If Vivek Ramaswamy working with elon musk think we are going to allow more H1b visas they are dreaming we are going to deport and close border to all asians you need to drastically lower your population for your own good we wont allow you here any more...
And if you dont believe it just look at all the violence targeted toward asians during covid that was just a small taste of what is coming... so fix your nations have pride in your culutre race and be happy.
I guess my main takeaway from this is... Real estate is only a good investment for 2 more generations, until the population pyramid reverses and there will not be enough people for fill all the housing built in the meantime lol
lol me seeing the old houses had 10+ rooms, they are becoming hotels or being torn down to construct a tower of 10 appartments with 2 or 3 rooms, but I just want an studio with one room
This isn't rocket science, if you want people to have kids, hire both men and women in the workforce and PAY THEM WELL and give them a good work life balance!!
Asia as a whole is experiencing fertility decline (and aging) at an unprecedented level unlike other regions. I say this because low fertility (+ aging) are issues that usually developed nations face but in Asia, the developing nations are facing it too. There are going to be countries in Asia that will officially become "old" before they get rich. The Economist in 2023 said that Thailand, Sri Lanka and Vietnam are the top developing Asian countries that will become old before they get rich and also said that Indonesia and certain other nations in SEA face the same threat. So many gains have been made in developing Asia to improve living standards but that hasn't correlated with a rise in income. China, India and Indonesia are still developing countries and while India and Indonesia still have young populations, China doesn't. Rise in education, implementation of family planning and women's liberation have helped Asia rise but it's unfortunate to think that all of this good has happened but national income is well below developed status. In the end, the elderly and the few young people will suffer.
The whole world buddy... even Africa is dropping and some cities faster than projected. And accelerating. Africa wont even each it's projected numbers. Forget about global peak in 2100 - it'll be more like 2060 to 2070. At that point the industrialized nations will be in full decline. Southern Europe is already starting. Germany in the next 10y. China too. Also South Korea. Taiwan. Thailand. Then everyone else. Last is Africa but they're so poor they don't matter anyway. Not now and not then.
@@mysterioanonymous3206 Agreed the whole world's fertility rates are declining but the difference is that most of Africa still has well above replacement levels. They don't face the risk that current developing Asian nations face because places like Niger still have fertility rates standing at 6.75 and the continent's most populated nation, Nigeria still has a fertility rate of 5.14. They still have room to fix this issue and develop because their fertility rate is higher and their living standards are lower but improving. A developing nation in Asia with a fertility rate of 1, on the other hand, doesn't.

In india marriage is not a choice it is a complusion by the society and also having kids is not a choice it is mandatory and in rural parts people want a boy it is common for people to have even 5-6 children in less devloped states in india
Young people need to stop listening to their idiot elders pestering them to have kids. Those people were born in the 20th century and never had to deal with overpopulation and pervasive unemployment.
We're doomed actually financially and in the future. It never gets better in contrast to the innovative technologies we have. Urbanization is kinda making it worse.
Let’s tax the rich nations who did not meet its obligations of producing enough babies similar to how they are taxing developing nations on climate change.
Sharing my younger brother experience. When he got married initially he said no kids. If wan to have kids he rather keep a pet. After his number 1 child, he is now with 2 kids and planning for a 3rd one. I asked him why 3 kids or even moser if possible now. He answered me as you get older your thoughts will change and the value that a child brings is irreplaceable. Kids bring wealth, bring motivation for him to work harder and bring back more butter for the family😂
Thank you for the video! I hope this discussion and documentary can extend to more developed Asian countries, especially Japan and South Korea, as their child birth rate has been decreasing since many years ago.
As a nurse w aging patients and aging retiring nurses. I worry not only for our aging population. I worry we dont have enough healthcare workers too . Its been on my mind since pandemic
I think it's more interesting to highlight the fact that young people with higher values such as higher education levels, higher salaries, and better living standards are likely to choose to be childfree or have only 1 or 2 children. Meanwhile, those living in rural areas with lower education levels, lower salaries, and worse living standards are the ones who keep on having more and more children. I wonder if in a few decades this imbalance will result in even more discrepancies among the haves and the have-nots.
In asia its harder to care for children so I say F it and got a cat . As a woman children will destroy me inside and out Get someone to solve low population problems!!!
When i was younger our life was chaotic my parents struggled as new immigrants and my brother has autism. Family life was toxic and depressing. I didnt want any children. When i became financially stable and independent at 35 i wanted 2-3 children. I wish i met someone who also was stable and family oriented
@ autism comes in a spectrum. There is an increase amount of children w this disorder . My brother became non verbal at 4. He knows some sign language. He has self harm and running away issues. And he started having seizures at 15 . Its a hard illness to have when its severe.
while in Vietnam the number of babies are born is still high, hospitals, streets crowded, lack of job opportunities, forcing many young to leave the country, the government still asked people to have more children.>)
@JongUn-r1s aren't there already enough vietnamese in South Korea and Japan? In both countries vietnamese make it into top 2 of foreigners. Also do Vietnamese go to Taiwan, Australia, Us, Canada and Europe.
@@matheenarifkhn3548 this is what the government want to understand. Look at the hospitals and schools and streets. Low birth rate is only in Ho Chi Minh city, below 2. But other areas have more than 2, some regions even more than 2.5 (average)
we can barely earn enough even just for ourselves so forget about having kids when we still have our old parents to take care of plus the idea of kids didnt ask to be born is becoming a standard…idk why would we ever want to have kids anymore lol
Gradual decrease in population is ok in Asia. That way, welfare for the old won't be impacted. If the government is rich then welfare may not even be a concern. Robotics, anyone?
Don’t forget that we’ll get Old and vulnerable someday too (if we are lucky) and will especially need companionship which mostly comes from having Children or Grandchildren. Qualifying - (Provided that you had been a loving and responsible parent towards them).
Low birth rate is less a problem for China than some other Asian countries mentioned coz their technology is advancing rapidly to be able to mass produce humanoids to do many laborious work.
First and foremost is a lack of trust in the government. As long as the government can't tackle corruption, then don't talk about this birth rate. It's a peaceful form as demonstration from the majority of ppl to the situation. The economy is suck. As a so-called 'religious' country, our rate of online gambling is pretty high. The wheel of money is being broken by this. It (money)'s gone from our market to another country. A very special reason only for some countries. Other reasons are basically the same hook-up culture (dating apps), unrealistic expectancy during marriage (always happy, and no sadness), high cost of living, etc
Viktor Orban in Hungary has figured out that helping people with money to help raise and house a family will get their vote. But those families give up having a voice in their own government.
If this continues, then china will face a cheap labor shortage. They might compensate the world supply with technology and automational advancement, but in terms of production cost, it will cost more than expected and might lose dominance in production
I remember reading in the eighties and nineties that some demographer scientists thought the poulation would plummet by 2050 due to war, pandemic or food shortages. Whst wasn't considered at the time was that humans would make a conscious decision to limit our population themselves.
It is stupid to say 2,1. Why do people say this? It should have been 2 or 3. You can not have 2 children and 1 disabled child without legs or arms. If you love your children, you want them to be healthy and smart, not disabled.
0.97 fertility rate, the second lowest fertility rate in Asia. They offset it through skewed migration from Malaysia with lesser numbers from China, Indonesia and India to keep in line with the country's ethnic demographics. Having said that, people can be ethnically the same but culturally there are differences and there have been times of cultural clash between Singaporeans and new Asian immigrants.
What I really hate about our culture is well marry me then marry my whole family and if you don't then you don't love me, it's so stupid like no you don't mix relationship with family otherwise it will compromised.
probably pandemy had to do too, but by example chinas house market has been going very bad because a lot of the construction companies gone backrupt, obviously this people that lose all their saving will not want to have children
Ne rađate djecu državi nego sebi ,tako treba biti ,ako nemate dovoljno novca ,dovoljno roditeljskih vještina ili jednostavno ne želite takvu vrstu odgovornosti nego mir ,tako je posvuda u redu
I only felt ready to have a child at 35 when i had a career and paid all my debt. But i did not meet anyone who wanted to have a family. Now people dont always want a family. They shirk responsibilities and partnership. So i didnt feel i can be a single mom as a nurse. I think if i worked at home like my friends i would have opted to be a single mom like them. I know many single women. I know some that chose motherhood in their own terms. Its hard and they have 1 or 2 only.
I don't know, I think as India, China and Indonesia has been known to have too much people in couple decade, I think it is good thing now the three slowing down no? It's been seen as negative thing in the past after all
However sharp the fall in population, I’m sure economies will manage. Maybe there will be less suffering then. And migrantiin is always there to import and exp😢labour too so what is the problem? Its not like people will disappear entirely at once
How do you slow population growth without anyone even realising it? Empower women (even to the point of absurdity) but say it's about equality. By the way, since you so often have so much foreign dialogue, please use audio translations as well so we don't have to constantly look at the screen to read the subtitles.
The root is that there is too many mouths in too small of an economy. This drives every parent do everything to make sure their child out-compete every other child. Being chinese, this arms race is all too clear to see. My own parents were intellectuals so the pressure on me was enormous, my childhood a very unhappy and stressful one. The cost for parents are enormous, and wages for even university graduates are low. So what do you expect young people today to do? A life time of toil so they can spend it all on a single child? Or use that money to live a little after long days at work?
I was never interested in children since I was a child. I think only those who are truly family oriented and well off should have kids others should be childless.
extinction is your liability, you are going to wakeup one day and you are elderly, you have to pass to the next generation, but it should be managed if overpopulation, so dropping by half is ok

It's mostly those that still are connected lots to Joint Family System or who aren't good with Financial Planning and Management - Indonesia could be 1 while another neighbour is 1 of Asia's Worst for it even though they are slowly improving - Philippines
how your parent raise you? that's how it is.
How about marrying someone who's not from a poor family? Hehe

THIS WHOLE DISCUSSION RELATED TO PARASITIC RELATIONSHIP + TOXIC SOCIETY GOES TO (1) NATIONS WITH JOINT FAMILY SYSTEM where COLLECTIVISM IS MORE where SOME ASIAN SOCIETIES HAVE LESS COLLECTIVISM/JOINT FAMILY SYSTEM with MORE OF INDIVIDUALISM But Less Individual Side to Western Nations
(JAPAN, SOUTH KOREA etc have More of Individualism and Less of Collectivism/Joint Family System COMPARED TO PHILIPPINES But have MORE COLLECTIVISM/JOINT FAMILY SYSTEM Compared to MANY WESTERN NATIONS that are MORE INDIVIDUALISTIC - It's there under International Relations Research Papers when doing INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS Subjects + Work Experience Too where yes, I have Work Experience in Business + Technology for 15+ Years and so have an interest in the Business, Tech and Cultural Aspects Too while Traveling and Living Worldwide Too).
This. Applies to all countries and all people. If you don't have the finances to support children don't have them.
Colonialism reduced India to most prosperous nation to one of the poorest nation. We are recovering.Your comment shows no sympathy.Shame!!

😂
Women have made it clear having a child is oppression. It's the governments job to protect its people though it can't let women genocide themselves, it won't force birth against people's will but it should collect eggs. Then just grow its own babies put them in boarding school. The babies will need fake moms at first, so this will be the old women who have realized they want baby but too late so they can go play with state babies
I'd do the same 😂
That's so sad.
Less people isn’t a bad thing. Some of our resources are finite. Save your money and enjoy your life.
@@Andizu1 You will die anyway, do you think you will enjoy your life if you have a hard time taking care of yourself.
Because of toxic traditions too... I prefer to be alone... to avoid toxic people and families.
no money, no baby, & no kids 💯

Not quite right.
Your ancestors were poorer than you but most of them had a bigger number of children.
People of more developed countries tend to build smaller family, or get married late compare to people of poorer countries.
@@harukrentz435 That's due to a lack of birth control.

Population collapse . . .
Good : For families.
Bad : For corporations.
Not that I'm a fan of corporations but who is going to take care of all the elderly people? South Korea is expecting 50% of the population to be elderly starting in the 2070s. I don't think you thought this through.
This is ignorant. You won't be able to retire without offsprings
That's why you invest in passive income get into stocks, bonds have small businesses
@@psyche100 Well, elderly people have to take care of themselves.
Im the same age. my sister said my mum is trying to find me a man because I don't care about life. Not sure she's joking lol.
Japan, Korea, cheap labour?
Western countries don't care that much because there's always another country that can do the cheap work Asian countries are doing. The issue is that without children to replace the current adults then in the future you'll just end up with a bunch of old people and not enough adults to take care of them.
Western countries were doing fantastic before they started getting notable amounts of m1grantz from Asia
Let's assume it is overpopulated (but I don't believe it is).
There is a big difference between making population smaller versus crashing population and having a lot of old people to support.
as an individual I see no harm having no children but many benefits, population is a Government problem not mine
@yuunanodesu and where did I say that was a reason have kids? I merely stated the results of low birth rates...

Exactly.. major point missed
The population decline of the three countries mentioned is actually not surprising. History shows definitely when a country moves from an agrarian system to one of industrialization, birth rates decline due to several reasons. Cost of living increases, city/suburban dwellers don't need children as do farmers and the introduction of feminism.
100%. Birth rate decline is highly linked to the speed of industrialisation in a country.
Yeah it will be better when that happens
UP,Bihar and most of North India is huge state, they are like the chest of our nation. Where as southern states are smaller and the landmass tapers towards the sea so population low, how ever education level and migration abroad is higher in southern states , hence fertility level dropped. The family ,martial culture, women empowerment in Bihar vs southern states is incomprehensible, it's like comparing brazil vs sweden, from culture to language, everything is different
Do u want more dravidians honestly 😂
There are plenty of poor people in poorer countries having babies, both now and across history, cost of living never stopped them
No, the real reason is when a country modernizes, there are more options for happiness and fulfillement.

This in wonderful news for India. We have far too many people.
China has a huge gender imbalance. There's far too few women. No Chinese man wants yo be single.
The world is over populated. It is better to have high quality than quantity citizens
you do realize the high quality citizens aren't the ones reproducing

The biggest problem is the cost of living is so high.
But poverty is reducing
It is an inevitable trend, the world will have to learn to deal with it, in the end a world with less people will be better for the world that sustains us and not incurring into ecological overshoot. Add to the equation less consumption and more fairness.
India still has a growing population you go to rural areas in Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh there are still people having even 5 children I can say out of all the countries India needs a 2-child policy to control population estimates show India's population will reach 1.7 billion by 2050 which is a serious problem
Yes, which is why Other Nations Need to CLOSE BORDERS to Those Nations that wants to Increase Population amongst the OVERPOPULATED NATIONS ESPECIALLY WHEN WORLD FACES CHALLENGES WITH JOBS + AUTOMATION & AI. Many of The Above States ARE CHALLENGING Subsaharan Africa FOR PER CAPITA INCOMES where AFRICA OVERALL HAS SLIGHTLY LESS POPULATION THAN INDIA though in future will have more population than India - COUPLE OF THE AFRICAN NATIONS like Seychelles, Mauritius, Gabon, Botswana, Libya, Equatorial Guinea, South Africa, Algeria, Namibia, Cape Verde, Tunisia, Eswatini, etc HAVE HIGHER NOMINAL PER CAPITA INCOMES than INDIA'S NOMINAL PER CAPITA INCOME where Some of Those African Nations have Higher PPP Per Capita Incomes than India's PPP Per Capita Income - INDIA IS AMONGST THE WORLD'S BOTTOM HALF FOR BOTH Nominal Per Capita Income and PPP Per Capita Income.
Sikkim, Goa, Delhi, Chandigarh are ONLY INDIAN STATES + UTs with More than $US5000 State/Nominal Per Capita Incomes. Then, Telagana, Karnataka with More than $US4000 State Per Capita Incomes. After them, Haryana, TN, Gujarat, Andaman, Kerala, Maharashtra, Puducherry, Uttarakhand, Andhra with More than $US3000 State Per Capita Incomes.

S Korea will join them between 2050-2100 as World Leader for Per Capita Incomes.
INDIA LIKE PHILIPPINES HAS WORSE + WAY MORE ISSUES THAN INDONESIA, CHINA even though India, yes is headed to be 3rd Best Economy where it has World's Largest Population of 1.4-1.5 Billion People that exploded from about 360 Million People in 1950 while China then had around 550 Million People (INDIA WON'T CATCH UP TO CHINA'S PPP and NOMINAL GDP ECONOMY for A VERY LONG TIME while INDIA WILL NEVER CATCH UP TO USA'S PPP AND ESPECIALLY NOMINAL GDP ECONOMY THIS CENTURY). India's Population is Expected to be 1.7-1.8 Billion by 2050 where Many Indian State Governments Still Encourage for Producing Babies. Part 2 and LAST PART - INDIA will Export More HUMAN RESOURCES where NRIs and Foreigners with Indian Backgrounds have Done Much Better than MOST MODERN LOCAL INDIANS of 1.4-1.5 Billion People in 77 Odd Years which INCLUDES MANY OF INDIA'S RICH including CELEBRITIES WHO HAVE HOMES ABROAD TOO (INDIA INCLUDING INDIAN GOVERNMENT NOT ALLOW DUAL CITIZENSHIP where Satya Nadella, Sundar Pichai + MANY CEOs + FOUNDERS GAVE UP INDIAN CITIZENSHIP for FOREIGN CITIZENSHIP where OCI is ONLY INDIAN PERMANENT RESIDENCY) - RESTRICTIONS WILL BE THERE FOR HOW MANY HUMAN RESOURCES CAN BE EXPORTED WORLDWIDE LIKE HAS ALREADY BEEN HAPPENING + NEED TO ADAPT LOTS TO OTHERS' CULTURES TOO WHERE HAVING BITS and PIECES OF INDIAN CULTURE ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD FINE But NEED TO ASSIMILIATE TO HOST NATIONS' CULTURES TOO.
INDIA YES is OK with MANUFACTURING and SERVICES where Both Doing Fine BUT Infrastructure, Education, Health, Basics and More STILL LOTS OF CHALLENGES with HUGE POPULATION + MASS AUTOMATION, 4TH INDUSTRIAL REVOLUTION Etc.
TOURISM WISE - Though India is in WORLD TOP 3 for HERITAGE including History, Cultural Diversity, INDIA NOT ASIA'S TOP 10 to TOP 15 MOST VISITED NATIONS BY FOREIGN TOURIST NUMBERS ON A YEARLY BASIS due to (1) FIGHTS AMONGST MODERN LOCAL INDIANS THEMSELVES BASED ON Religions, Regional Value Differences, Languages, Politics, etc + (2) Modern Local Indians Themselves Not Respecting Their Own Land and Water where LAND + WATER POLLUTION is WAY WORSE THAN Noise + Air Pollution where INDIA HAS BECOME 1 of the WORLD'S DIRTIEST NATIONS. The TOP 3 NATIONS IN ASIA THAT GETS MOST FOREIGN TOURIST NUMBERS ON A YEARLY BASIS belongs to China, Turkey, Thailand FOLLOWED THEN BY UAE, Malaysia, Singapore, Viet Nam, Indonesia, S Korea, Japan, Saudi Arabia Too in Recent Years as well as Other West Asian Countries + Central Asian Countries WHERE INDIA NOT THERE.
GOOD LUCK where INDIA like PHILIPPINES is IN A WORSE MESS and HAS WAY MORE ISSUES than INDONESIA, CHINA as 21ST CENTURY NEEDS MORE ENTREPRENEURS, LESS EMPLOYEES DUE TO MASS AUTOMATION of 100 DISRUPTIVE 21st CENTURY TECHNOLOGIES that started Few Decades Ago where AUTOMATION BEGAN 1000s YEARS AGO including WATERWHEEL TECHNOLOGY THAT EXISTED in INDIA TOO 2000 YEARS AGO for Irrigation, Metallurgy, etc

There is no incentives to having kids.
You're absolutely right - in an agrarian society, children are considered assets, but in an AI-driven society, they are seen as liabilities.
extinction is your liability, you are going to wakeup one day and you are elderly, you have to pass to the next generation, but it should be managed if overpopulation, so dropping by half is ok

(INDIAN GOVERNMENT Too has STATED These States HAVE LESS THAN US$2120 STATE PER CAPITA INCOMES where UP and BIHAR ALONE HAVE LOWER THAN US$1150 STATE PER CAPITA INCOMES that's led by Bihar 1st followed in Order by UP, Jharkhand, Manipur, Assam, Meghalaya, J & K (region), MP, Chhattisgarh, WB, Odisha, Nagaland, Rajasthan, Tripura with Less than $US2150 State Per Capita Incomes).
Bihar has Less than $US750 State Per Capita Income while UP has Less than $US1150 State Per Capita Income. Jharkhand has around $US1275 State Per Capita Income and it goes on in that order where MP has around $US1700 State Per Capita Income, Chhattisgarh has around $US1750 State Per Capita Income, WB has around $US1850 State Per Capita Income which goes on in that order where Rajasthan has around $US2000 State Per Capita Income while Tripura has around $US2120 State Per Capita Income. INDIAN GOVERNMENT ITSELF CALLS THESE STATES THE ONES WITH HIGHEST POVERTY + WORST EDUCATION AND SKILL LEVELS + WORST STANDARDS OF LIVING FOR MOST (CLOSE BORDERS + LET THESE INDIANS FROM THESE STATES WHO WANT TO KEEP BREEDING SUFFER AS THEIR ISSUE FOR MAKING BABIES WHEN CANNOT FEED SELVES ESPECIALLY WHEN WORLD FACES CHALLENGES WITH JOBS).
THAT'S Y INDIA IS called LOWER - MIDDLE INCOME NATION HEADED FOR MIDDLE INCOME TRAP like MANY ASIAN NATIONS Excluding China, Malaysia Expected to be High Income Nations by 2030-2040, Viet Nam around 2050 + then maybe Indonesia by 2nd Half of 21st Century.
Mass Automation began Few Decades Ago where AI is Only 1 of them as 21st Century has 100 Disruptive Mass Automated Technologies that were given as Periodic Table in 2018 which can find out by Googling as the Periodic Table of Disruptive Mass Automated Technologies of 21st Century which are 100 of Them including AI are still there (AUTOMATION BEGAN 1000s of Years Ago which includes the WATERWHEEL TECHNOLOGY THAT EXISTED IN INDIA TOO 2000 Years Ago used for Irrigation, Metallurgy, etc).
The World's Top 5 Nations for 21st Century Technologies INCLUDING PATENTS includes China, S Korea, Japan, USA where WHILE BEING BEST, CHINA, S KOREA, JAPAN are TRYING TO REDUCE POPULATION BY HALF BY 2100 where China goes from 1.4 Billion to 700 Million, Japan 140 Million+ to 70 Million, S Korea 52 Million to 26 Million by 2100 while India has around 1.4 Billion by 2100. Singapore, Qatar, UAE already in World's Top 10 for Per Capita Incomes where Singapore is expected to be World's Best by 2050 for Per Capita Incomes joined by UAE + maybe Qatar too.
(Singapore along with UAE, Qatar are in World's Top 10 for Per Capita Incomes where Singapore is Expected to be World's Number 1 for Per Capita Incomes by 2050 while UAE and maybe Qatar Too would be there while S Korea is aiming to join them between 2050 and 2100).
