- Here's a look at warbird action at Oshkosh on Saturday during EAA AirVenture 2016. Look for the Commemorative Air Force P-39 Airacobra, one of only two currently flying in the world. And there's more -- P-64, C-46 Commando, F4U, P-51s, A-1 Skyraiders, T-28s, Texans, a lot to enjoy, and more to come in future videos. Have you subscribed to the Airailimages Channel on UA-cam? Thanks!
And here are three more World War II films on the scarce P-39 Airacobra:
• P-39 Airacobra Assembl...
• P-39 Airacobra Guns In...
• P-39 Tumble and Spin T...
This video is part of the Airailimages Airshow America collection.
Lovely! It was a great treat to get to see the P-39 and the P-64 fly! Nice to see the C-46 flying too. Note: the P-64 shows up around 6:29.
I could not identify that aircraft. that "Peashooter" color scheme really threw me off. now I know. Thanks.
I wept when I watched this. My Pops flew -4's in Korea and it was very neat to hear the pure sounds of a Corsair taking off
Another fine video of some rare birds. Thank you.
That sound is a sound that simply cannot be described. It HAS to be experienced ;-)
Outstanding video! No video can really capture what it is like to be at AirVenture, but I was there this year and your video is as close as it can get. Thanks for the memories.
You are very welcome. Thanks for watching, and thanks for your comments.
my dad flew a P-39 in the South Pacific - great to see it
i guess I'm kind of randomly asking but do anybody know a good site to stream newly released movies online ?
@Landyn Donovan Lately I have been using flixzone. You can find it by googling =)
@Landyn Donovan lately I have been using FlixZone. You can find it on google :)
@Landyn Donovan lately I have been using Flixzone. Just google for it =)
Love the sound of the Corsairs and Mustangs
LOVE THE OLD WAR BIRDS.
Oh man! What beautiful sights and sounds!
Beautiful warbirds.
--nice to see Uncle Paul's P-64 flying again! Thank you for that! My brother-in-law flew R-5Cs to Iwo Jima, so it was nice to see the C-46 at the end. Gratitude for that!
And thanks for watching and commenting. Yes, it was good to see the P-64 in the air again.
Austin Gunn , the plane at 4:00 is the Bell P39 Airacobra
Thank you very much
P-39 at 3:54! Hopefully more get restored and flying.
Beautiful video .Thanks
You are welcome. Thank you for commenting.
Great Video! Thanks for posting!
You're welcome!
I liked the P51s. Great video!
You get an A+ on this video! The P-39 most definitely had a unique sound, the C-46 was freaking HUGE! Great show, go if you haven't been!
Thanks! More to come...
fantastic video and great sound thanks for posting
You are welcome -- thanks for watching!
5:37 At least the spiders are gone.
Awesome planes. well shot video..thanks for sharing
You're welcome. More to come!
We had two T-28B aircraft during the sixties, at Marana, Air Park AZ.
Gotta get back there again sometime!
EAA still flys the P-64? I watched Paul Poberezny fly it at Rockford Illinois when I was a munchkin.
nice
Thanks for watching, and thanks for commenting.
just awesome . well shot.
Thanks -- glad you liked it. More to follow.
Bravo Zulu. I couldn't make it this year but I felt like I was there.
Glad we could help!
AD-1 Skyraiders, just flew in the Korean conflict. I can see an AD-1 with the Vietnam era color scheme.
As much as everyone loves the P-51 sound, I prefer the T-28, it seems you can hear each explosion coming from that R-1820. And those Skyraiders are like the monster trucks of warbirds, huge!
Haa! I'm with ya! I prefer the R1300 sound over the R1820, more cranky with 7 6" pistons over the 9.
The Trojan ain't exactly puny. Stand next to one. You'll swear that cockpit looks like it's already got 20 feet of altitude!
Outstanding!
Thanks!
Man I love those Sky Raiders.
Mike
Looks like it was another awesome year! I would love to attend sometime!
Thanks for watching. I hope you get your chance to get to Oshkosh.

Those sky raiders just one huge prop job !
Просто красавцы.
Just beautiful.
Thank you for watching and commenting.
The P-39 is in the markings of 2nd Lt. William Fiedler. The only American to become an ace with 5 kills in the Airacobra.
Very nice! Thank you!
You're welcome. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Love the P-39...for more stability, I'd "load" the cannon with a few more rounds nose weight maybe ?
I bet P-39 pilots were distinctly aware of that drive shaft spinning between their legs.
Mickey Bitsko
Actually *under* the cockpit, but your comment is still valid: one cannon shell into the spinning shaft and it could have wound up *in* the cockpit...
Very nice.
There is not much said about the air cobra in ww2 why?😕
only the soviets was able to recognise the qualities from this fighters...
Pretty awesome to see Alabama Rammer Jammer take the air, never have seen that one in flight
Good! Thanks for watching.
I think the camouflaged Skyraider is not the model used in Vietnam war but,in the Korean war ,due to the shape of its canopy.
Some single-seat Skyraiders of this style were used in Vietnam, but I know what you mean -- you see a lot of multi-seat A-1Es in Vietnam-era too.
The windshield of the plane in the show, correspond to an AD-1 canopy development.I´m not referring to multiseat A-1Es
The video is great and liked so much, but I think the Skyraider should be painted in sea blue color due to the windshield corresponds to an AD-1 canopy development, that´s all.
Thanks, I appreciate your comments. I think the camo Skyraider in the video is either an A-1H or A-1J, which is the Air Force version of what the Navy originally called AD-6 and AD-7. I think this one may actually be a former VNAF aircraft that was flown to Thailand when South Vietnam fell.
Thank You ALL!
Ma Osckosc non è dove fanno il Quashquash della Nissan ?
Can anyone tell me what the bird that lands right after the First Mustang @ the 5:22 mark? Blue with NAVY Markings. Thanks in advance
It looks like a North American T-28 Trojan. See link: __ en.wikipedia.org/wiki/North_American_T-28_Trojan
GSMSfromFV Thanks.. Much appreciated.
This is the view ALL air show attendees should be able to have access too.
The best we ever had
A-1, T-33. Both my dad's choice of birds. No T-33 here, but that is alright.
The P-39 became popular in Russia because of its ground attack capabilities. The Russians supported their infantry whenever possible much like we did in Viet Nam.
Bob Johnson. The p39 was an awesome tank killer
Sorry for being late, but that's completely wrong.
You mistake the points of the missions P-39s were given, instead they were used to cover a certain area from any possible attacks by enemy bombers, attackers or fighters.
P-39s were only used against cars and trains, because its 37mm cannon was lacking against tank armour, not to mention that AP shells weren't provided to the USSR
That wasn't a regular T-6 I guess, but some fighter variant instead. Does anyone know its designation, and the engine used in it?
P-64
I recall a big navy piston engine fighter down in Florida at the Leeward Air Ranch...if I get the name and the foto, I will edit this...t hanks. :)
P-39s Are Super Cool.
Obviously a man of good taste...
agreed, though its interesting how a american plane got more love and use by the Russians than the country that built it, thank you lend lease program! (or at-least from what i heard they did)
Yes you are right. I'm thinking that they really didn't understand it or the concept. Here's what bothers me, is that the Army Aircorp said to remove the super charger. When it was, then they rejected the aircraft. To me, that makes absolutely no since. The Russians really proved the P-39 by clobbering the Germans. The Stats. don't lie. Something very fishy going on back then.
When I was young I heard the story that the p-39 had a nasty characteristic of going into a flat spin which was non-recoverable. Especially if doing very tight turns. It was not a dog fighter. I think the Soviets avoided using it for this role.
No, they used it precisely for that role. Just their "dogfights" looked a lot different. While the American and German preference looked more like a (coordinated) pub brawl, Soviets prefered engagements that worked more like fencing - keeping a distance, then quickly turn in, try getting a mortal blow - and in case of unsuccessful engagement just gain distance again. And that is what the P-39 excelled at. It also excelled at blowing up swarms of Ju-87's...
To me the SkyRaiders looked the scariest.
I've always had a thing for the Skyraider.
Understandable!
Used like an A-10 in Vietnam...A lot bang for the buck...
At one point they wanted to rename it the Pulverizer
The skyraider is the biggest among the radial piston warbirds too late for WWII, but effective in Korea and Vietnam for CAS.
Рад увидеть летающий P39 Airacobra. Ведь эти самолеты поставлялись в СССР.
Да, летчики СССР хорошо их использовали. Спасибо за просмотр нашего видео.
Da, letchiki SSSR khorosho ikh ispol'zovali. Spasibo za prosmotr nashego video.
did the P-39 have one cannon in nose? also where was engine. did not know tri-gear. very unusual then
Yes, the P-39 was very unusual. The engine is mounted behind the pilot with a long drive shaft to a gearbox in the nose. The area in the nose houses the nosewheel., a 37mm (sometimes 20mm) cannon, and typically two .50-caliber machine guns. Thanks for watching Airailimages!
I've always liked the iron dog. Did they never ever try it with a turbocharged engine?
The original XP-39 had a turbosupercharger. Later, the Bell P-63 Kingcobra benefited from advanced versions of the Allison V-1710 engine that had a much improved two-stage mechanical supercharger.
What aircraft is the last one, with 774 on its rudder?
Curtiss C-46 Commando
Great video! What did you record the video with? I've never seen video, not even in the analog video days, that showed the aircraft propellers as yours does, almost looks slowed down a bit but it still looks great.
Thanks for watching. The video was made with a Sony FDR-AX53, at 120 frames per second. This provides a heap of digital information to work with in post production.
Great video, but the only music I want to hear is the sound of those engines.
Thanks for your comments. We use a shotgun mic to keep the audio pick-up as narrow as possible, but when we have to pan far to either side or face the crowd, we sometimes pick up extraneous and unwanted sounds. That's when we cue the (royalty free) music. But we try to keep that to a minimum.
If I was a multi millionare, I'd still live in our 3 bedroom house and drive my 11 year old car and look for specials at the grocery store. But I'd buy an old warbird- 2 or 3 if I could.
Aircraft at 5:45? Sounds wicked
Douglas A-1 Skyraider
+airailimages Sweet, thanks for the reply!
War Thunder update 3.79 PlayStation 7
What airplane is that at the 4:00 mark?
That is the Bell P-39 Airacobra; one of only two still flying (as I understand it).
+SkyhawkSteve thank you!
My guess is that you'll only see them in museums, so just check on the card in front of the display. :-)
Otherwise... the wikipedia page for the P-63 page has a lot of info on the changes from the P-39 to the P-63.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bell_P-63_Kingcobra
Personally... I have problems with this too!
upon further research... it's easier than I thought. The P-63 has a 4 bladed prop while the P-39 has a 3 bladed prop.
some P-39Q variants had 4 bladed props
Amazing!! What did you use for music?
Glad you liked it. The music is called 'Nevada City', from the UA-cam Audio Library
Most of the air cobra s are in Russian underneath all that snow some where
skyraders rock
Agreed!

Завидую лётчикам поршневых... Било все по рыцарски! А сей час по крысе? Хотя? Запретить военные самолёты реактивные. Ну запретили жэ турбо наддув в формуле! "( Шутка) ,но почему - нет!
