One question that might make you open your eyes: how come when you put your disc in, the console needs to download the game on the console? It’s because we aren’t buying the games themselves. You are buying the license to play the game. Therefore, there is no difference between the two. However, you do have a physical copy to loan to a friend to try. But you will always need that copy of the physical to play the game

The issue of course is buying a game, installing it, then returning it or selling it and just playing the digital install for free. I prefer digital for the reasons you mentioned. It's more convenient to be able to just buy the game directly from the console and download it, and also be able to switch games on the fly at the push of a button. It also saves space if you don't have a lot of room for a shelf or something to put all your physical games. Physical games just don't feel "physical" anymore, if that makes sense. Cases are empty, no instructions or anything, sometimes the full game isn't even on the disc or cartridge and you need to download additional content online anyways.

Depends, I’m older generation so was always a physical disk guy. I like buying games second hand and looking for deals but ive bought digital games when there is a sale. It basically all boils down to price for me and whether I can wait for the right deal physical or digital. I’m worried tho if we ever go all digital because once you only have a single marketplace to buy games from then companies can charge what they want and keep prices artificially higher for longer. Look at Alan Wake 2, I loved the first game and want to play the second but I refuse to pay €70 especially for a digital copy i never really own and can’t recoup some money by selling on second hand like a physical copy
