We all have to work within the limitations of our room, equipment, and hearing. If it's good for you then that's what counts.

Not to mention budget limitations. Everything is subjective .... what one person thinks is great another may think sounds terrible.

Hey man it’s your room so you put the speakers where ever you want. Thanks for sharing! I like how you sit on the floor. We used to go to a picture theatre run by the Krishnas where it was all floor seating on old moroccan floor cushions, so comfortable and a fun way to watch films. They had the sound really dialled in and had live music there too.

    Great talk on speaker placement!
I try to keep my mid and high frequency drivers at least 30 inches from walls and floors.
Yes, the speaker distance from a back wall does change bass response and it’s good to experiment with distance from corners and walls.
Standing waves are also an issue and will cancel out bass frequencies somewhere in any normal house room.
Gotta move yourself and speakers around until it sounds good in a particular space. Just a couple of inches can make a difference in my experience.
But hey, I sometimes listen to music lying down on the floor!

The biggest influence on the acoustics is the room itself, followed by the speaker, then the amp and the rest of the gear. In my experience, trying to get the perfect balance of bass versus a good centre image where the speakers essentially disappear is very tricky. You may place them in a position that gives you great imaging, but lousy bass, and vice versa. For me, imaging is everything. It's ok to have great stereo separation, but if there is a poor centre image, it sounds rather lacking, and this is where a well-placed sub can work wonders and make up for the bass deficiency. I never understood this until one day I went to a neighbours house (he was a true audiophile) and I got to hear a properly setup system with correct speaker placement and proper acoustic treatment, and I was blown away. It was as if the speakers weren't actually there. It was so good, I could close my eyes and believe the musicians were in front of me. If I looked directly at the speakers, I couldn't detect with my ears that the sound was actually coming from them. I was 25 years old and I thought my system was a kick-ass system, but I had the illusion of my great system blown away that day.
26 years on from that event, I now have a system just like his, and I marvel at how fantastic stereo sound can be. One of my favourite tracks for assessing imaging, depth and bass is Clark Terry's "The star-crossed lovers" off the Reference Recordings Chicago Sessions album. If your system is setup correctly, your speakers should disappear, everything should appear to be coming from behind the speakers with great depth, the trumpet floating further back, and with good bass, you should feel the ambience of the room. It's like peering into a room that's twice the size of the room you're sitting in. But anyway, the biggest problem for any HiFi system, without doubt, is the room itself.

I agree... These are cheap speakers so I wouldn't call it 'audiophile' grade imaging but it's big and I get that effect of being in a bigger room you speak of. :)

@@EzeeLinux You would be amazed how great cheap speakers can sound though when the placement is done right and with a little acoustic treatment. I remember a few years ago being completely taken by surprise by a pair of small bookshelf JBL speakers. They sounded like floor standers, I was amazed.

That is such an amazing setup. I've not seen anything like this since the mid 1980's.

It is nice to see a set up that isn’t uptight as so many are nowadays.

Good thoughts on that! Many buy expensive hardware and have terrible listening rooms. I met guys with unidirectional cables sitting in a room of glass, stone and steal... I share your opinion on improving the room. Years ago i spent a lot of time reading about audiophile aspects, learned a lot about snake oil. I played with daphile (awesome!) and consequently acquired a good preamp and decent studio monitors to connect to my linx streamer. I have no carpets and a lot of windows. So the room is bad. Therefore i sit close to my studio monitors instead of buying a new house😄 The cheapest way maybe to use good headphones.

If the bass output is too much then blocking the rear ports with old socks might help!!

Yep. It will tighten up a flabby, boomy bass... :)

On a different note. Video Downloader, in Linux Mint (cinnamon) seems to have crashed. Could you look into that? It's worked great for years, but now isn't even loading properly. It's not working on any of my computers.

One thing i would probably change is the placement of the turntables for feedback reasons...
    Great channel...keep up 👏

No feedback issues at all, thanks :)

We used to go to a club in New York City called The Ritz. Their dj turntables were right on the dance floor near the back of the hall getting blasted with all sorts of loud resonances. No problem there - go figure.
The only time I I have had turntable feedback problems was unpredictable. Using a big expense turntable, I had feedback problems when it was located in a separate room away from the loudspeakers. Sound waves can travel in mysterious ways!

    What about standing waves?

That's hwy some adjustment is required... You want the bass energy to reach you at the listening point all at once and in phase.
