  • This is the start of a new boat building project where I'll be building a 22ft Richard Woods Janus catamaran in my garage.
Some very (very!) kind people have asked how they can send a donation my way, so if you wanted to contribute to the catamaran build you can do it here...

Time spent in preparation is never wasted. I think I spent more time thinking about how to build a dinghy than I actually did building it.
    Following with interest.

There’s not enough Woods designed cats in Oz. Hopefully Richard is happy to have an excited builder with some social media smarts all locked up in NSW.

Thanks for sharing your journey.... I appreciate in lieu of not being able to do my own yet. Good luck for all the tedious jobs which I know are hard.

@@Aaron.deRuiter no, thanks for sharing your build. I'm in England but I built a wa-apa from Gary's book after seeing your vids so you have been a real inspiration. I figured my next go would be a trimaran with alot of the philosophy you state here, getting onto a trailer being a big one. The weather here can get pretty tasty with short high waves as the Atlantic rolls in so from what I've seen my thinking was that a trimaran would be better at making some upwind progress in a gale than a cat and potentially get us home when it gets really light and the tide is the wrong way.
Bizarrely I was looking at the Scarb tris so I'd be building an aussie design while you do an English one.
Ive made my space but cash has dried up a bit due to a variety of reasons and like you I have kids so the foods gotta come first, cars gotta run, uniform to be bought.
I'll do what I can to share but it won't bump up your views.... Tube is funny what it decides it needs to promote. Good luck, I'll be waiting for your next installment.

Do you still have your wa’apa? They’re a great little craft but a little limited in how far you can go with it, especially in your North Atlantic waters! Yes mate, definitely keen to here how I can get more interested people watching my videos. Send me an email aaron.sup.plans@gmail.com. 🙏

    Hi Aaron,
I look forward to adding this 'cat' to my fleet of Kiwi armada of whaler boats down south of Pegasus bay. If you could provide the adequete Prismatic Coefficient for whale-catching in cold waters in a future video, that'd be appreciated.
    Regards,
    Whaler Tom.

Ah, Captain Tom, I was hoping you’d pop from ‘the locker’ to gam about the scuttlebutt. Yes, this cat build will make fine viewing for those longs nights a-whaling with your shipmates. The coefficient is not the question though, it is a matter of old man wind. You understand? Fair winds capt.

Ah Aaron, ye're certainly nah aware o' the hydrodynamic resistance o' multihulls in Kiwi waters! But all be forgiven! Farewell good sir
