  • How to install a floating vanity. A floating vanity is has some unique installation requirements because it hangs on the wall. A floating vanity cabinet replaces a traditional vanity but allows you access underneath the cabinet as it is supported on the wall. A hanging vanity needs accurate measurements for a solid installation.

    Installing a very similar HD floating 30" vanity now and ran into the same problem with the drain! I really want this at a 36" finished height so I am going to cut a notch in the lower cross piece. I think it will be secure and not mess with the integrity. Also be sure not to snug against a side wall because the top does stick out each side about 1/4 inch.

    I am installing a similar vanity but I've run into issues with my wall having a bow at least 2 inches. If i shim the vanity there will be large gap and i dont want to fill the large gap with Caulking. The only thing i can think of to fill the large gap is drywall compound but I'll need to use alot considering the size of the gap

    • @MikeKlimek
      @MikeKlimek  4 місяці тому

      Yes that will be pretty noticeable, especially if you have a nice shiny top and drywall compound to fill in the gaps

      If you are talking about the plastic tabs to remove the drawer...I would think the manufacturer is the place to go. If your drawer slides broke, you can try to buy a generic set of 2 at a home center, and replace the ones currently on the drawer and cabinet.

    Why didn't you use lag screws to support the sink?

    • @MikeKlimek
      @MikeKlimek  3 роки тому +2

      A couple of reasons. First, the sink top is an integrated bowl that was made specifically to sit directly on top of the vanity with caulk (I used adhesive caulk). It has no holes in back to screw into. Second, the cleat that supports the vanity is secured into studs with manufacturer supplied screws. Third the directions didn't call for it. I suppose you could have used lag bolts in the cleat-it would have been overkill but would have worked fine.

      Yes! I used an adhesive silicone so I would have to cut through that to separate them. You probably have the same thing (or something similar). @@jessesandwich I would screw into the wall framing behind the lath/plaster. A stud sensor won't help you so you can try measuring from the corner and using an educated guess. The ledger board (french cleat) can be moved wherever is convenient and you can screw into any length of the cleat/board. You can also use toggle bolts but make sure they are long enough to get behind the lath and plaster. You can use a masonry bit for the hole. Hope this helps!
