    You made this look a lot easier than what I experienced. It was pretty difficult for me to keep the rod from collapsing when putting the spring back on making it impossible (for me at least) to compress the spring enough to get the retainer washer on. Definitely couldn't do it straight up like what you seemed to demonstrate. It collapsed every time. Finally was able to get it back on at an angle though. Definitely appreciate the video!

      Yeah it was almost impossible for me too! I had my wife help me do it! I pulled back the spring and she put the spring retainer on lol!

      Guys, just use any long steel pin/rod/handle and insert it in the back of the rod. I used my cleaning rod, this prevented the inner recoil rod to retract. Took about 3 seconds to install the collar.

    Art Bosco What a HUGH difference using a piece of dowel made when threading the long spring back onto the two rods. The dowel kept the two pieces of rods from collapsing inwards on one another. The dowel is inserted from the rear and pushed inside the larger rod to "extended" the smaller of the two rods. The spring didn't needed to be worked backwards as much so the locking tip was much easier to install. Thanks for the tip janiesponies.

    Hey HBI, I have a question. Is your locking charging block (the short one used with the Arms Republic rail extension) compatible with the short stroke buffer?

    • @hb_industries
      @hb_industries  2 місяці тому +1

      Yes, our short stroke buffer will work with all known charging blocks. Not trying to shamelessly plug our own, our buffer is compatible with both the factory charge block as well as our own of course. But as far as we know our buffer is compatible with all other aftermarket charging blocks as well.

    The recoil spring can be hard to compress for old hands. To hold the guide rod extended full length, I used a 1/8" dowel I actually had on my bench, cut to 3" and put in the guide rod from behind, then I could compress the spring, and reassemble.

    • @hb_industries
      @hb_industries  3 роки тому

      This is a great idea. We have also used pocket screw drivers and punches (sitting on the work benches), but there are certainly many other ways to improvise if needed.

    • @hemphill727
      @hemphill727 9 місяців тому

      I used a piece of an old chopstick to keep the guide rod extended - it helped avoid the frustration of the collapsing guide rod and saved the day.

    Best video I’ve watched today. Could this potentially cause any actual * short stroking * and feeding issues? Particularly with hotter ammo. Seems like a great part, but wondering if anyone has experienced issues.

    • @hb_industries
      @hb_industries  3 роки тому +7

      The length of our buffer still allows the bolt to over travel the ejector and bolt stop by nearly +5mm. Plenty "factor of safety" for adverse conditions, tolerance stacking or variance etc, but small enough to keep the action quick and short. Assuming you are using a factory lower receiver, you will not have any "short stroke" issues with our buffer.

      I just got mine in today. Just finished installing it too.
      Have you noticed any difference in felt Recall impulse?
      Never did bother me how it felt with the factory buffer since I normally shoot mine suppressed. I mainly got it because I've have the brace dance it's way to the back lol
      Also I installed the folding charging handle and the charging block lock today.
      Unfortunately it binds =/
      I have to charge it with my grip close to the receiver for it not to do that.
      Crazy if I swap the stock handle with the charge block lock it's smooth also if I use the folder with the factory charge block.
      I'm thinking both parts are Slightly out of spec that they turn ever so Slightly to increase some resistance to over power the recoil spring.

    I had zero reliability issues prior to installing the buffer. Now it chokes multiple times per magazine. Wtf?

    • @hb_industries
      @hb_industries  Рік тому

      Are you able to verify that your buffer is seated fully to the rear against your receiver cap/brace/stock adapter? Does your bolt lock back on an empty magazine? What lower receiver are you using (oem/aftermarket)? Are you able to give a little more detail on "choke"? Would you describe the "choking" more as a failure to feed? Or failure to eject? Anything different about the magazine(s) or ammunition or have those variables both remained fairly consistent? Hoping to get you sorted out here asap.

    • @Executioner_of_Time
      @Executioner_of_Time Рік тому

      It appears to be a fail to extract issue. The spent round case is blocking the new round from chambering by not fully extracting. Factory lower, same ammo as always 124 gr. NATO, bolt locks back on empty mag, buffer is fully seated. Only different variable is I shot it without the brace for the first time ever. I have well over 2000 flawless rounds through it with 10 different mags, factory straight and curved loaded to 25 rounds.

    • @hb_industries
      @hb_industries  Рік тому

      @@Executioner_of_Time sounds like you have our buffer installed/positioned correctly, visually verifying that it is fully seated and functionally verifying that the bolt locks back on an empty magazine. Both of these generally indicate correct installation of our buffer. Doesn't sound like mags or ammo are the issue either. What are you using instead of a brace? I wonder if it might be worth putting the brace back on to see if you can isolate the issue? Almost sounds like bolt is not moving quick enough, despite having enough travel? Possibly something going on with the collapsible recoil spring assembly?

    • @Executioner_of_Time
      @Executioner_of_Time Рік тому +1

      Appreciate your input. I installed the factory buffer and the brace then blasted 100 rounds from 4 random magazines. It is good as new but I'm not keeping the brace on it and going through all of that bs.

    • @hb_industries
      @hb_industries  Рік тому +1

      @@Executioner_of_Time Would it be possible, next time you visit a range, to re-install our buffer and test your Stribog with the brace installed? And/or leave the factory buffer installed and remove the brace (configure the backend like you had it when you had the FTE mentioned above?) For science? We would be happy to refund you the cost of your buffer if that is the issue, or send you a replacement; it's just that this issue that you are describing is not common at all (in our experience, with our buffer) and regardless the outcome we just want to either get your Stribog dialed for you, or make it right somehow.

      Did you remember to remove/re-install the flat washer from the front side of the factory buffer into the HBI buffer? With both the front and rear metallic collar and washer installed in the new HBI buffer, the new buffer should be fairly well captured on the recoil rod.

  • @GeneBussler

    The only purpose of this is to reduce felt recoil? I’m having FTE issues so would this possibly cure that or make it worse?

    • @hb_industries
      @hb_industries  3 роки тому +4

      Our short stroke buffer dampens and slows the bolt velocity at the rear of the bolt travel. FTE issues are more frequently associated with dynamics at the beginning of the bolt's travel such as initial bolt velocity, extractor or ejector geometry, or external influences like ammunition or magazine(s). Our short short buffer definitively makes the Stribog more pleasant to shoot, but it would be wrong for anyone to tell you that it was a magic cure for FTE issues. Sorry :-/

    • @hb_industries
      @hb_industries  8 місяців тому

      It could have to do with the wide range of drop in AR triggers, combined with there being several short stroke buffers on the market... Just speculating, but A3 might be trying to limit the number of compatibility variables. Speaking on behalf of HBI, our short stroke buffer has been compatible with all of the A3 and Lingle lowers that we have tested.

    Thank goodness for your video 😎
    My kit just showed up and I ripped right into it.
    I did have to refer to the video about that thing collar on the end that goes into the bolt, but the other collar the bigger one looked like it was permanently attached to the rod.
    Of not for you video I may have messed up the reassembly.
    The buffer was suppose to land Friday, I am glad it came two days early as I want to shoot my SP9A1 Gen 2 Friday morning.
    Maybe this this will bring the recoil down over to my CMMG Banshee 300 MkGs, it is a soft shooter with their radial delayed blow back system.
    Edit, just cycled it and I have your folding charge handle.
    Since the stroke is shorter now, the charge handle when you release it does not build up as much momentum, and the handle does not fold all the way over like before.
    Is there a cure for this?
