Just played this at my husbands funeral as everyone was leaving. It was played repeatedly at our wedding song in 1988, and seeemd a fitting tribute to be the last song played for him . 💔
Dear Sara, May the Good Lord welcome him the best way. You gave him the best farewell song - the soundtrack of a happy and unforgettable moment. I hope you can bring the best memories of your life together in order to ease your loss. Greetings from Porto Alegre, Brazil.
What a beautiful way to both start and conclude a life together. Deepest sympathies for your loss, @Sara Hattle , but look ahead while holding your memories close.

Saw her at a festival in Scotland this year (2019) - she's still got it. Hitting ALL the notes, bouncing all over the stage and looking as gorgeous as ever.
Listening on cassette player in the car with my husband Gareth back in the day. Lost him in 2020 to cancer at 58 yrs old. This reminds me of him. Love you Gar. Miss you love. ❤️❤️
I'm so sorry to hear about your husband - I'm sure you loved him very much. You might be interested to know my first job was as a Product Manager at RCA/BMG and I did the marketing for Fairground Attraction who were one of my first successes! Perfect was just that and the album was amazing too. The band were lovely and I went to New Orleans with them for a video shoot. Although a tough industry with long hours and challenging work, I had a blast and feel very lucky to have had 20+ years of fun in the music business (domestic and international so I got to travel too). I'm living in the USA but still have very fond memories of this band, the graphic designers (Andy Vella and Laurence Stevens) and the whole RCA team.
“Has it ever struck you that life is all memory, except for the one present moment that goes by you so quick you hardly catch it going?”― Tennessee Williams.
I came looking for this today, because it was playing in Morrison's. I was in the alcohol aisle, and I noticed a little, middle aged woman dancing along to it. She saw me looking and just went with it, dancing at me, smiling behind her mask, eyes creasing, until I danced back at her. It is the first time I've heard this tune since it was played at my friend's funeral. Mixed emotions, obviously, but a classic tune and a wonderful moment.
Fairground attraction! Has that effect on people! They sing of joy and love..... what’s better than going to the fair! Do you see the freaks in the bearded Lady’s the gypsies and the thieves..... The Ferris wheel and the lovers...........I have that effect ,the music is beautiful
@@jednoble8385 It came out in '88. I remember because we spent the summer back in the Netherlands, and this song played on the SKy channel. Not sure if that's still around, but it was a British cable channel that we got in Holland.
That's what made the 80's so special. At any time you could turn on AC radio and hear a country, jazz, rock-a-billy, rock, pop, swing, gospel, new wave, punk, easy listening, hip-hop, reggae, rap, soft-rock, hard rock, disco, contemporary, R&B song--and that was just in the first hour! You can't put a label on 80's music.
Hey that's me sitting on the bow of the narrowboat, I was there to make the rain, It was shot along the Regents Canal from Little Venice and down into Limehouse Basin where we stopped for lunch, I'm pretty sure we must have gone to the Grapes, because I recollect looking out over the Thames from a balcony in the pub. Being the late 80's when health and safety wasn't so rampant, little consideration was given for water born pathogens such as Weil's disease the water for the rain being pumped straight from the canal, and for some of the shots in Eyre's Tunnel with a generator running (providing power for the lighting) that was progressively smoking us out, we were 'footing' the boat backwards and forwards to get the right speed of travel for the shot. Just another day in the life of a physical FX guy.
Most people who weren't around then probably don't realize what a breath of fresh air this song was when it came out! So many bands at the time were so serious and certainly never smiled or laughed in videos (or photos!) and catchy, folk style pop was almost unheard of. It sounded light and airy and CHEERFUL and put a spring in one's step. If you're a serious teen or twentysomething now, please please remember that it's ok to smile and laugh, be innocent and have a jig around the room!
The timing of this song was just 'perfect' in my relationship with my wife to be Jenny Jones, almost 30 years ago. We walked down the street in Bath, the song was blasting out from a record shop & Jen rushed in and bought the cassette. It has been our 'touchstone' ever since and up there in my favourite all time top ten.

I've been listening to this for over thirty years now, and it's still some of the most life affirming stuff to ever come rolling out of the music industry. Period. And all hail to those who do not use autotune.
