This is absolutely THE best pot roast I have ever tasted, bar none. The tenderness, depth of flavor and aromas are truly special. The word 'delicious' doesn't do it justice-perhaps 'sublime' comes close. Make this recipe if you love your family!
Sorry nidia being Portuguese myself and from Madeira living in Australia last 52 years (came here when I was 5) there is no such thing as Portuguese/ American food ,you make a Portuguese dish like my mum use to ,may she Rest In Peace, it is classed as Portuguese and nothing else . Mum used to make that and was staple in our house well done, viva Portugal 🇵🇹.
❤ My mother was from Holland and dad from Salga, Sao Miguel...grew up with the Portuguese culture and keep the traditions of cooking in my home...love it sooo much...my first husband was from Portugal and it was all Portuguese everything! I must say...I made this with elk roast...it had to be my new all time favorite recipe!Yours is thhe best!! ❤ thanks so much for your channel and teaching us not only the best of cooking but returning Portuguese Azorian language to my ears! God bless you!
Ada, thank you so much for taking the time to watch and comment. You are exactly why I think it is so important to try and document these delicious recipes I learned to cook with my Grandmother and my Mom. I know some of them are a little less than traditional at this point, but the spirit is truly Portuguese, and the flavors are fantastic. I am so happy you enjoyed this recipe, it is one of our favorites, and I love how easy it is to pull it all together!!
@duanenidia-foodtravelandfun Nidia...I can't wait to try more of your delicious recipes! I never had a roast turn out so tender unless cooked in the slow cooker but your recipe with placing the onions, olive oil (mine is imported from Portugal called Bom Dia the smell and colour means you know its pure unlike the brands of oil you buy in the common grocery stores) on the bottom of the roaster pan is perhaps what tenderizes the meat? It's a first for me to do it that way! Also I am so blessed with my Canadian husband, who loves my Portuguese dishes and he was soooo impressed with your recipe! Will keep you updated when I make more and find time to watch all your videos!! Wished I would have seen you before!! Lol Enjoy your day and keep it going!
Just wanted to say that I made the pot roast with Linguica and Ciorice. Came out great! I, for some unexplained reason, did not have any paprika. What I DID have, however, was a spice mix called "Tia Maria's Portuguese Seasoning" that contains paprika, so it all went well. I especially liked the suggestion for putting in the sweet potatoes at the end. Let the whole thing simmer at 350 for about 5 hours, and it cut with a spoon. Thanks again!
We love to hear from people who have tried our recipes. I am very pleased it worked out well for you. Nice long cook too. We definitely believe many ingredients can be substituted without changing the end result significantly, especially when the change includes an original ingredient like the seasoning you used. The sweet potatoes really do make a difference. Always good to hold off on them as they cook down very easily. Thank you for sharing, and for watching!
Watching this makes me wish I was close to my portuguese side of the family. Never really knew my portuguese grandmother or great grandparents. I wish I had grown up around portuguese cuisine.
It's never too late to connect to your ethnicity! Take advantage of all the great recipes, and try them out! A trip to New England, especially the New Bedford, Fall River areas in Massachusetts will give you a chance to visit all the amazing Portuguese restaurants! Thanks so much for watching our video!
There’s a guy here that’s half Chinese half Portuguese and he makes a sausage that’s half linguica with the seasoning of char siu...the red Chinese roast pork...it sounds weird but it’s really good...I was skeptical too
I'm so making this next weekend. This looks fantastic. The only thing I may have to hold back on is the hot peppers. My wife is Acadian French and doesn't have as high a tolerance for these as I do. I think Goncalves makes the pre-roasted milder red peppers and they sell them at Demoulas in Somerville where I shop.
Hi John, so glad you are going to give this recipe a try! You can absolutely leave off the pickled Portuguese peppers, or replace with any other kind of pepper. The ones I used are mildly spicy, but it depends on the pepper and sometimes the brand. The Goncalves peppers are very good, we use them a lot too! Let us know how it turns out once you make it, and thanks for watching!
that,s funny cuZ I have mine still and i love mine i make my turkey in it and its fantastic no shame, I REALL ENJOY TO HEAR YOU SPEAK SOME PORTUGESE AND I LOVE YOUR RECIPES THANK YOU. WILL TRY THIS ONE YUM,,

Just like my mom used to make! And I still have that pan and use it for my roasts too! It’s hard to get linguiça in Minnesota though.
Thanks so much for watching. I think you can order linguica from some of the markets around here, and they will ship to you!
That type of pan my family called an asadara.

This is Duane and I had Chinese links for breakfast yesterday. I love them. I am a sucker for fusion so would likely love those too.

What is the spice mix you mentioned? Is it Goya adobo or a packet?
It's Sazon Goya spice blend. Thanks for watching!
How long do you bake it in the oven, 2 Lbs, at 375 F degrees, thanks

carne assada? not carne cozida?
We've always referred to it as a roast... I guess technically you can call it either assada or cozida.
