ThioJoe, I really do think you should make a video on all the extra stuff you mentioned at the end. You could even make a series on it considering how much features there are
hey thiojoe, you may not even read this comment, but if you do, I want to thank you for making videos. Simply making them! Every single one literally throughout the years has played a role in shaping my knowledge of computers and increasing my interest in them. You have contributed a lot, to a large audience. For this, I'm very grateful and I hope you continue doing this!
BTW, at 2:38 isn't the action center sort of the newer, better, and more advanced mobility center? I remember that this used to be useful in older versions of windows, but in win10, I thought it would be a bit old. The cipher tool is great, will experiment safely with it. But ofcourse, the sysinternals suite was the best of all, please could you make not just one, but a few seperate videos about that? Maybe a video for an overview, then into specific ones? It seems like you never run out of content, I think this would be a great idea for a video series!
One application in the Sysinternals Suite is called "Desktops.exe." It enables 3 extra virtual desktops in old Windows versions that didn't have virtual desktops, and you can change the hotkeys by running the program again. One feature that I find really handy is that the virtual desktops DO NOT show the items on the main desktop, which is good if you need a lot of space. (Click read more.) POSSIBLE HOTKEY COMBINATIONS: HOST KEYS: HOTKEYS: Windows Key Alt + 1, 2, 3, 4 Shift F1, F2, F3, F4 Ctrl
I saw you're running Fences. neat little tool. I've used it for a long time and keeps my desktop really clean. You should mention that one in one of your top lists.
It takes a lot to impress me ThioJoe but you certainly have. Your presentation skills alone for a young bloke, little lone your obvious understanding of the things you are talking about, I'm sure will see you having a very successful career doing whatever you choose to do in life. Good luck to you and thank you for all the great tips.
Cipher is just a CLI to control the long-standard encrypt attribute of NTFS available in the file/folder property dialog box. Be very careful about this as the keys are stored in the registry and if lost, the files are gone. Also, if you copy the files out of the folder and cross file systems, the file is no longer encrypted. Be very careful using this especially in a corporate environment where you have regulatory requirements to escrow crypto keys. There are plenty of tools to enable key escrow in an Active Directory environment which should be setup first before files are encrypted.
The service you do for your fans is amazing. I don't know how you ever find, absorb and disseminate all that you do. (I usually am left in the shadows, but today I was pleased to see one of my few skills on your 10 list: multiple clocks! Yaaay)! lol Thanks, Joe! : )
One of the coolest feature that windows has and I just found out not too long ago is the "snipping tool". It allows us to take a screenshot of a small space anywhere on the computer screen and save it. Before start using this tool I had to do the print screen, open it in graphic software like paint, crop, and save. The snipping tool does it all.
thanks for telling me about Sysinternals Suite and the two you talked about , they are just what i need , please make the video about Sysinternals Suite
9:20 Windows Explorer doesn't actually restart if you do this. It just closes it. To restart it, you'd have to go to Task Manager by pressing Ctrl+Shift+Esc, select "Run new task" under File and type in "explorer".

A hidden feature introduced in Windows 8 and in Windows 10 is slide to shutdown, meant for tablets. Go to C:\Windows\System32\SlidetoShutDown.exe. You can make a shortcut to it on your desktop or pin it to the taskbar
there's an even quicker way to run ANY program. not just quick bar ones. right click it and somewhere in the app's properties there's a way to set a button shortcut
I've noticed, on a lot of your videos, the comments are bad, or negative. It makes me hesitant to try any of these like speeding up your CPU or GPU for free. Some people say they tried the changes and it worked fine. Others post horror stories that make me reluctant. I think it would be helpful to tell people how to undo/recover from these changes if they don't work or help. I guess your mileage varies.
Please take some time to do a video on the sysinternals suite features that are useful... I am having great pleasure watching your instructional videos and makes me understand my machine better. Thank you so much for being around to help non techies like me.
a helpful thing to note wrt the sound mixer - since microsoft in their infinite wisdom decided to make it significantly harder to access the Sound panel (which I do all the time for various reasons) a convenient shortcut is to open the sound mixer (which I usually just keep open in the background anyway after the first time I do this in a session) and then click on the System Sounds icon, which will bring you to that tab in Sound, from where you can access whatever it is you're actually there for
You forgot the most common way to open the mobility center, which is Win+X. Back in Windows 7 this shortcut opened the mobility center directly. Now it opens a very useful menu, but mobility center is an item in this menu. So must people open it with Win+X.
Regarding the Windows key + shortcut to start programs in the quick start toolbar, this is fine if you only have nine programs in the toolbar. I use it every time I boot up. However, I have twenty icons in my QS toolbar! After number nine the shortcut method becomes rather useless!
Getting to this a bit late but....cipher has been part of windows courses for years. Nothing secret about that. You can also encrypt using the advanced properties of a folder/file in Windows Explorer. Nothing new. You forget to mention the dangers though. To encrypt the user generates a local certificate that should be exported (I know you sort of mentioned it). Which means if the OS is changed/reinstalled the encrypted files can't be decrypted (unless you did export the certificate). If the user leaves your company and you haven't generated a data recovery agent certificate (which needs to be done before you start encrypting), you have no way of decrypting those files. Thirdly, the user hast to have full acces rights on the folders/files they wish to encrypt. Your math input panel is just part of the tablet tools which have been around since Vista. The BASH was added for remote connections to cloud environments. Please do some research as people seem to use your videos as a source of information.
How do you know which programs that you don't need that is slowing down your computer ? How do you go through all programs running and get rid of programs running that you don't need or want without messing up the entire computer? When you have to many programs running.
SysInternals was originally written by Mark Russinovich in the mid 1990's. Originally written for Windows 1995. Microsoft acquired SysInternals in 2006.
This video is pretty sweet. I'll definitely use that Cipher for on-the-fly encryption, and that Linux terminal is fucking sick!!...I didn't know about that, but I'll definitely be messing with that now. I thought for sure you were gonna mention holding shift when deleting something to skip the recycle bin though.
I would like you to make a separate video on tall of the programs that windows doesn't give you automatically that you talked about a little bit at the end, Thanks!
I am a big fan! Thanks for all the great info and yes Please make the totally separate video about that sysinternal. That deserves a full 20-minute video ❤ 🤗
If Windows Explorer freezes completely sadly it's not possible to left click it anymore (with our without Ctrl shift). So this only works if a single window if explorer freezes.
when i try to download windows10 from microsoft site ,there r 2 main versions.1st is creators update and z 2nd is anniversary update ..which one should i download ?or which version is z newer?
+1 For Sysinternals Suite, going through the Suite would provide a lot of good content. Also, Mark Russinovich, the creator of Sysinternals has written a book, Zero Day.
Hi Thio what is the best browser to use with updated windows 10, since i updated Firefox and edge keep coming up with cant connect to the website, the wi fi is still connected ok, if you close the browser and reopen it it will work until it does it again...pain in the butt was ok before i updated it....Fred in uk
Nice Vid, thanks! I have been using the process explorer for years and love it but Im not too familiar with the other options in the sysinternals suite. Please do a dedicated video on the suite. Thanks.
Why wasn't I granted root access with the Bash shell given that I'm the only user on my Windows account and I have admin access? It never gave me an option to designate me as a root user during installation. ?
Everything here was new to me except the Volume Mixer ( I'm surprised you consider it to be not well known). Either way, great list! That Cipher module is gonna come in handy...
My favorite features were 2 number 9s, number 9 large, number 6 wit extra dip, number 7, 2 number 45s one wit cheese and the large soda feature was also pretty helpful

can't you just open the mobility center with like [WIN] + [P] if I remember correctly? not a Windows user here, sorry xD
Yes I would like a separate vid on SysInternals. You think you can make that happen? *Hands a shiny new nickel*

Sysinternals tools are not directly from Microsoft. They are from Mark Russinovich, which is a Microsoft MVP.

Thanks Thio, brilliant as usual. Yes, please do a video on the final tip, so as for less savvy, to know what each does.
