    I would like to see these tests done at 100 yards.

    Where the 300 shines is close quarters. If you're trying to go compact an 8in 300 will outperform a 12in 223. Which is exactly what it was designed to do.

      12 223 can take a 8 300 blk out depends on shooter. I'd take the 12 556 nato over 300blk for combat and run soft points or m855a1

    Thanks for taking time & energy to provide a good demonstration & data. Not sure what distance this is but another viewer mentioned 100 yard text would be a good idea. I agree. We have used 223 for youth deer hunting a bit. Inside of 100 it isn't bad. But it isn't great. Only lost one young buck. That's enough for me. Multiple factors for failure and not all caliber related. However, the same setting with a 44 magnum rifle or 20 gauge slug in my experience would have most likely been a different outcome. These Fusion results both look good in gel. But under 100 yards I would encourage the 300 over 223. Well done. Thanks. Subscribed.

    Just found your channel from this video. I'm waiting for a 300 blk upper that I do plan to hunt with. All shots I'll be taking will be less than 150 yds. I feel like that's as far as I want to shoot this. 🤷‍♂️
    On another note, I lived in Hot Springs, AR for ten years.👍

    I'm looking to bag a few whitetail this season.. 300 Blackout Federal Power Shok 150 gr JSP. Where I hunt, shots are basically limited to less than 100 yrds.

    I agree. I built a 300bo upper specifically for deer and hogs. I feel more confident with a heavier bullet... 125 grains vs 62 grains. I'm certain the 223 fusion bullet is capable but I prefer a bit more mass.

    Great hunting bullet!

    IF you deer hunt with .223, this FF 62gr is bad medicine on whitetails. Just keep it inside of 200 unless you're good enough to take head shots.

      Yea they are. I load them at 3150fps (gold dot bullet), never fail to drop them.

    keep in mind those numbers on the box are probably out of a 24” barrel for the 223, run it from a 9” barrel and you’re nowhere close. The 300BLK you get full capability out of 8-9”…that’s the advantage of the 300BLK

    • @Subtlenimbus
      @Subtlenimbus 10 місяців тому +2

      No - 8-9 inches will not get you full capability from a blackout. It works just like any other gun; longer barrel = more velocity. The 8-9 barrel myth for Blackout arose because of subsonics. If you are using subsonics, there is no need for a longer barrel because you hit max velocity in a short one. With super sonics, a 16” barrel can put out 1500 foot pounds with hand loads. Factory blackout loads are measured in a 16” barrel. Subs will lose around 100 fps in a 9” and supers will lose around 300 fps for 110 grain in a 9”.

    My grandfather shot a 25_20. Winchester he said and believed that's all you need to kill a whitetail

      They knew the value of a close, precise, shot ! Also, 'woods skills' were paramount then. 🍁🍂

    Seems like everyone is getting into the ballistics arena. I'm not sure what you are looking for: I do think testing at longer ranges would be more instructional for hunting purposes? The current tests would be more pertinent to home defense! Just one man's opinion.

    300 has bigger impact at close ranges, 223/556 has bigger impact at longer distance

      5.56 eventually overtakes blackout, but it takes 3-400 yards depending on the bullets and barrel lengths.

    Used 308, 165gr. Fusion in Encore pistol to take several deer. One and done. Great bullet.

    Interesting results. How far was the block from your shooting position?

  • @mikefranklin1253
    @mikefranklin1253 Рік тому

    I can not carry a gun for every situation I come across. The 5.56 is good enough for anything out to at least 350 yards. The 300 black is strictly a close range round.

      Some states don't allow .223/5.56 for deer hunting.. Which I really think is a foolish rule.
