I really like the Silver Sky for Dead & Co, I feel like people forget about how Jerry used a strat for a long time!

I was thinking the same thing. John is nailing some of Jerry’s tones with the Silver Sky.
Absolutely.. In fact the Wolf was pretty much a strat also.. at least before the first mods..
All I'll say is you listen to the show where he played Wolf and the listen to any other show... You know damn well you hear that difference! The silver sky might be "good enough" but it will never come close to anything Doug Irwin ever made, and the sound speaks for itself.
@@arcarioandsons I don’t think anyone really cares that much if he nails Jerry’s tone. That would be weird. John has his own style. I am just saying that the Silver Sky compliments the sound of the band.
The EUNA IMO is another effort by John to get ever closer to that amazing Garcia clean n’ crisp 3D tone. Jerry had an onboard buffer that kept his signal sweet and strong running directly to his amp. Before EUNA … IIRC … John was only using a Polytune 3 as his first in chain buffer. Its a good buffer, but I can Imagine the EUNA has a lot more going for it, much like the Sarno Black Box does that Weir uses.
The Silver Sky is versatile and I am glad to see it being used!
Great job man, it’s really great to get the run down on what he’s using these days. It’s come a long way since ‘95… his pedalboard is a wonderland.
5:09 those settings on the EUNA make any guitar sound like magic. They achieve that pickup-close-to-strings thing without ruining dynamics or overpushing it like doing that to your guitar usually does. I usually switch both of these on when I use guitars that have weak pickups, though I tend to switch on the EUNA switches at random during gigs if I feel like I need any more of these frequencies. This thing makes such a massive difference. I notice IMMEDIATELY when it's off.
The Euna is just so simple yet so brilliant!

@@Ironworthstriking the average 9-5 worker doesnt use a $120 amp. why would he? most average guitar players that I know play through some type of moderately good tube amp. If you’re going to spend $1500 on a guitar I’d hope you wouldn’t cheap out on the amp portion
There was a picture of John's pedalboard posted on Dead & Co.'s Instagram page a few years back. The Qtron+ was very clear but in a different position. The settings were…Sweep-Up Position…Mode-LP…Response-Fast…Range-Lo…Peak-7 o'clock…Gain-8 o'clock…Boost-Off
I think it's funny that I play way differently than John, with way different gear than John, and yet I'm constantly watching these videos

has no one commented how its most likely hes using that black mystery pedal as the fx loop of the qtron+. when i had one back in the day i would put a fuz in the loop to give the jerry tones extra bite with the push of a button. especially with the auto wah it can sometimes lose some of its volume is the gain isnt turned up high. ill put 20 bucks thats what this is.

I wonder if he has switched from the Keeley to a pedal you can still buy, to prevent the price spikes? Seems like a lot of the pedals can be store bought now apart from Klon/Ts10
I own a PRS 594 and it is the best guitar hands down! no wonder John loves them so much

@@dwgoutdoors831 Two completely different guitars. IMO, the SS has great pickups and is a fairly decently produced guitar. However, the 594 has much more to it as far as production goes and I would describe it as a "custom shop" compared to a SS. PRS is making a major margin from the SS. The SS could very well be a 2 pc body with a much lower finishing cost (solid paint), bolt-on, and the wiring requires less effort as compared to the 594. I love both guitars but the 594 requires much more in the manufacturing process. The notes just sing. I have a 2nd mint 594 for sale if anyone is interested. Even the case is mint.
Paul reed smith really did his homework when designing the super eagle. Jerry Garcia’s luthier towards the end (who made Bolt) was designing a mew guitar for jerry before he died called Eagle that has a very similar look to the Super eagle.. it was semi hollow - had 3 P90 style pickups with Jerry’s onboard effects loop and preamp. Very cool to see.
I think he was stage testing the 594 super eagle. He had honey on stage at last night's show.
Maybe he dropped it off in Maryland for adjustments.
Just saw and was blown away by the Shoreline shows. All I could identify onstage for John was a Fender Twin Reverb. Any info on his current D&C tour rig? Thanks
John needs way more pedals, those are not nearly enough............and whatever happened to the prs super eagle 2? I think he used it for 5 minutes and then threw it away???? also, to get that jerry sound, he could go with a much better amp than the dumble.......like a fender, boogie, hiwatt...........
He played the pink one in Mansfield, and Bobby played it in Hartford.

I think the mystery pedal is the Voodoo Labs Analog chorus that JHS modded into a stereo version (maybe?)
I don’t think so, he can’t be using stereo in and out cause the rest of the chain, even the flint isn’t using it! Plus LED is at the bottom!

Jerry very famously used a strat with the alligator on it. Strat is very much a Jerry tone - middle pickup nails it. People are whiners lol.

What's the benefit of having the phaser in between the delays? I've only got one delay, but I like to have my phaser before distortion/od because I like cleaner phaser tone

Johns strat tones are completely different than Bobby’s so stepping on his toes isn’t an issue

It's a Limited Edition Custom 20 I believe! Only 20 made of course... I think it is just a backup for the Dumbleland as it hasn't been mic'd as far as I've seen
Any idea which power supply John is using on his board?
Does John use the boost because the qtron is down the chain when using single coils?

I have a hunch those three uncovered humbuckers are DiMarzio Super Distortions, ala Jerry. Sorta wish he’d go back to the 15-16 Dead & Co rig. Super Eagle with J-Mods…big, bold and bluesy.
J-Mods don't really sound very good IMo :\
It looks like they are Dimarzio from the looks of the pole pieces… probably the crisper super 2s. And yeah, I agree that super eagle is something special!

I think the Euna is actually first. Based on one shot from rehearsals, John’s instrument cable doesn’t go into the Wah, which does go into the Tuner. So I think it’s Euna, Wah, Tuner to start

Justin, I may have missed it but I think you skipped over the Gamechanger Audio Plus Pedal that is off the pedal board on the left. Looks orange in this picture but it is a gold footswitch. Additionally, watching some of the 2021 footage, he usually also has a Boss FV-500L Stereo Volume/Expression Pedal next to the Game changer.
The black Klon still just doesn’t make sense to me, but I’ve read all the discussions. I just don’t know how anyone could know whether it’s modded or not by these pictures and the vague response from JHS, but I also have no reason to think it is modded. Likewise, JHS giving your video the nod is a lot more of a reason to think it isn’t. Especially when the “asked for it to modded” rumor chat is also surrounded by people insisting it was silver with bad lighting.
Hey Rob, I didn’t think the pedal was to do with the guitar but to do with his vocals as to why I never mentioned it.
Zach from Mythos also confirmed yesterday that Johns Klon broke and he had the casing replaced when it got repaired. This was probably to just fit the blacked out theme he was starting to go for back in 2019. I’m still totally confident it was not modded between what Zach has said, as well as everything with Josh Scott.

I was looking into that Gamechanger pedal and it actually looks pretty awesome.. we’re you assuming he uses it for voice of has he had voice volume pedals etc on the left in the past? I ordered the cheapest one on reverb as I’m building this replica this week.. only thing I’ll still be waiting on is a Euna.. bought 6 weeks ago but got an email with a 25% discount off anything else in the gigantic believable audio catalog because it’s taking longer. I love what you’ve been doing with the channel bro. The settings videos are the bomb!
Great video, have you been able to figure out what John’s QTron+ settings are? I’ve tried to dial mine in but still can’t get it quite right.
Qtron is a lot about your touch and timing in the strings, it is frustrating

I wonder if they're Dimarzio super 2s. Jerry Garcia used two super 2s (So far as I understand) in Tiger, with them being coil split most of the time.(corrected)

I really couldn’t get comfortable with the 594 neck. It’s pattern vintage neck carve is way too fat especially on the higher frets where it meets the body. It’s weirds I have a Les Paul R8 which has a fat neck but for some reason the pattern vintage just feels like too much. I far prefer their pattern and wide fat carves. For this reason a regular 25” scale McCarty is a better guitar for me. I also like the old SC 245 model, wide fat with a 24.5” scale. If PRS would use a more reasonable neck carve on the 594 I’d be interested.

Once people found out what guitar strap he used, everyone went to go buy it so it is very hard to get one.

If players are interested in the guitars because they're curious, I get it. If players want to know the intricacies to try to sound like John, I think that's a shame. Find your sound friends. It's not all in the equipment; it's in the hands. Overall, I do understand the curiosity and knowledge to be gained. Peace all.
How do we know it’s a super clean and not another xotic pedal
You can see it clearly in other pictures but none of the other Xotic pedals look like this one, white with one small central knob.

He has the Euna taking care of the buffer needs so I’m assuming it’s as a boost!
@@JustinJeske interesting, so he has 4 maybe 5 gain pedals with the mystery JHS. I wonder which ones are his “always on” pedals. Watching the livestream right now I saw that the prestige boost was on and he was in the middle of singing a verse and playing rhythm so that’s some information there

Ha dude, Josh Scott and John have both confirmed it is a Klon painted black. Common sense factor too that John wouldn’t use a Centura, he can easily afford multiple Klons. He’s been “blacking out” pedals since the 2019 world tour in a bit of an effort to hide some of the pedals no longer in production that he’s been using. The Klon was the one of them, even though it’s so obvious what it is. It’s so that if he tries something out it doesn’t immediately make people start using his name to profit off of already hard to find, no longer made stuff. His CE-2 is also “black” for all of the Sob Rock stuff

I dunno. Everything else he’s painted black was just like that. No other attempt to hide what it is besides the paint job. I thought they were modded at first but don’t really subscribe to that theory now personally at least.

@@shankrl1 Yeah I totally agree that everyone knows he uses a Klon and TS10, so why black out one or both of those. New ones he is trying out makes more sense to me... like the Delay 80's, CE-2, etc.
