Ever since I saw John play "Slow Dancing in a Burning Room" through a Two Rock 12 years ago (before that amp and that song were released), he's been my image of what a marriage of tone and musicality should be. Oddly, I've referred back to this image of his pedalboard for years as I work on my sound but I don't have any of the pedals in from that era. Maybe that'll change. Subscribed.

Very excited to hear who the winner is. Great research on this board and rig and getting specific sounds and tones relating to this period with the JMT. Really good songs and riffs as usual....John is a master guitar player and writes hooks as good as anyone around today for sure. This is really neat. I have been trying to learn some more JM stuff recently and I don’t have most of that gear I have been able to get close to some of his sounds. Though so much of his tone comes from his right hand it’s cool to recreate his tone through pedals. I have always wanted a blues driver

Great video!! Does a compressor pedal add anything to the equation? If adding a Klon type pedal, which one of the boost would you take out? BD, TS or Katana?

Beautiful! As an avid fan of john you really hit the nail on the head with the pedalboard and made a clear explanation on the whys of him using these pedals to create his tone! Btw don’t care about tone purists they argue about lithium affecting tone! Demos were excellent too!

I really enjoyed this and appreciate the tips. But if I may, I'd like to know what pedals/fx I could use to emulate Eric Clapton 's blues tour for "from the cradle" I've wanted that tone forever.
Good question! Part of that tone is the mid-boost preamp. I see that some folks sell them in a pedalboard format, the TBX circuit. That'll help. Some if it's the amplifiers too. I'm not sure what was on those tours, but I've seen him using Tweed Twins lately.

2) my chain boss tu3>mad professor simble overdrive (V1)>paul cochrane Timmy>MXR CAE boost overdrive>Boss DD3>Marshall reflector...All of it in a egnater rebel head and a jensen speaker cab in solid wood...Do you think this rig can be enough to match mayer tones or it lacks of something, like a tube screamer type pedal (I possess a east river drive by EHX) or an analog delay?

Hey Dario, for your first question probably the BD-2, a lighter OD but you'll be pushing with humbuckers since he used a 335. That could work!
Hello Mason, do you have any tips on how to overcome Charge-pump chatter/heterodyning, with pedals like the Keeley katana? Unfortunately, the Katana (V2) seems to produce a whine of sorts (chatter according to keeley) and doesn't get along with my HX Stomp. I'm not sure if the V1 has this issue and whether or not this noise just doesn't bother anyone? (I use a Cioks DC7 and Mogami/EBS gold cables). Thanks!

What Amp and especially which setting exactly did you use for this? And what where your guitar settings? Mayer famously said that he always rolls of the tone to 5 and below, did you do the same thing? Everything sounded really really close, so good job, hope I can replicate some of these tones!
