Dead & Company was formed in 2015 when the Grateful Dead’s Mickey Hart, Bill Kreutzmann and Bob Weir joined forces with artist and musician John Mayer, Allman Brothers’ bassist Oteil Burbridge, and Fare Thee Well and RatDog keyboardist Jeff Chimenti. The result was one of the most successful touring bands of the decade. The inaugural tour kicked off in the fall of 2015 with two sold-out shows at the legendary Madison Square Garden in New York City and ended with two sold-out performances at the ‘Fabulous’ Forum in Inglewood, California.
Since then, the band has completed five tours, playing to more than 1.5 million fans, and has become a record-breaking stadium act. Dead & Company has headlined iconic stadiums across the country including Folsom Field, Autzen Stadium, Citi Field, Fenway Park and Dodger Stadium. Additionally, the band broke Wrigley Field’s all-time concert attendance record in 2017. Dead & Company’s 2018 Summer Tour ranked in the top 25 of the Top 100 Worldwide Tours and for the past two years, their Summer Tours ranked in the top 15 of the Top Global Concert Tours.

I’m checking this vid because this is my town and I took my mom to see her favorite band on this night for her birthday. Oteil is an old friend of mine in the music biz and he hooked me up with tix and passes. She had a blast and danced from beginning to end. My mom passed away early today. So I’m just reminiscing and I’m so very sad. But I’m also watching this with tears of joy. I hope any of this makes sense. I’ll probably cringe when I read it later. But thank God for music. God bless The Dead and all of you. RIP to my mom, Carolyn. Peace.
I'm sorry for your loss. I'm glad you were able to take her to a show. I saw them this summer. I felt my deceased brother with me that night. I cried happy tears. He was a big Deadhead. I swear I felt him come through the music. It was one of the best show's I've ever been to. You could feel the magic in the air. Treasure the memorie's you made that night with your mom. She's with you in spirit😇❤✌🎶🎵🎼🎸!!!

The harmonic squeal @5:37 is so tasty, I could take a bite of it and wouldn't need to eat anymore for a month.
John Mayer is a beast.
Oh my god I’m coming in my pants because this song is done so well ! I love this ❤️❤️❤️🌹🌹🌹😱🙀👻💀🪐👽🎶☮️
This is just about the best of them with all the colors behind them plus they r a together band , playing off eachother as they should b !
Hoping to hear this one at the Gorge!
Love coming just to see the comments about how the Dead fans love John when a couple of years ago they were pissing themselves about his he wasn’t Garcia. Finally realizing that Garcia wasn’t the caliber of John.
⚡🌹⚡🌹🐾
i have like 1000 of these veiws
You can tell that Mayer has made D&C his priority and that he is having an absolute blast up there! Say what you will, but if you can't enjoy this iteration of the band, that's on you.
they have such great chemistry, and john mayer and oteil burbridge bring an energy thats just really fresh but still true to the dead
Oh yes u y’all r so on it ! Bless u ! 🥰😘☮️🌹❤️
ok, dad
I've never cared for John Maher but it was pretty cool seeing that he's an actual accomplished guitarist that fits himself into anything he plays but I definitely did not care for his peak popularity music
Mayer has done a great service to the art and memory of Jerry. He channeled Jerry and added to it perfectly without stepping on the overall vibe in the show I saw.
Some say if you really concentrate you can smell oxygen among the pot.
Well then I wouldn't really concentrate...
I was there, I could only smell pot. Guilty as charged. :-)
Nollie The Gnome I’ve seen the dead a few times many years ago...never heard a truer statement, LoL 😂
I couldn’t smell anything, my senses were focused on the neon snakes flying around me
Don't listen to everything people say.
I’m a 32 year old Indian guy from a relative small town of our country and sometimes I just wish that I was living in the States so I can watch Musicians like these perform Live and sing and dance along with all the other cats present there. Live Music is such a gift man.
We Deer xxlry fi cGuess ok but you ra POw TRErbee we eww w
It's nice that you appreciate this, but I have to say that you have so many musicians like Zakir Hussien and Debashish Bhattacharya who kick our asses at improvisation; I won't pretend I'd rather be in India, but from a live improvised music point of view, your country is light years beyond the US, where I live.
You have to have significant means to go see stuff like this. Tickets to events like this are crazy expensive.
Come on over man. Let's go see the dead
@@jamesrobinson949 That's something which is in my bucket list. When all this is over and Musicians are back on the road , so will I. Till then I will be riding that train, high on Co.....e and jamming with Mr. Casey Jones

Carson Allen yes its is a great concert. Especially the camera angles. More intimate than usual. I totally agree
Jerry garcia would be very proud
John is great.
Imagine if we had videos of jerry with this quality
I still miss that guitar sound, no one like Jerry Garcia... such a blessing these guys are still touching souls with their unique blend of American music.
Would be awesome. I have noticed GD has better quality then most all others of that era thou.
interwebs would all come a tumblin' down ... and nirvana would be achieved
From my calculations Jerry would not appear on 4k video,. Just his beard would.

HOLY F’N SHNINKES HOW CAN ANYONE COMPLAIN ABOUT THIS BAND?! This cut is incredible, 10/10, insane light show/crowd too!!!
Love seeing Mayer just being happy to play, I heard him say live that he “just writes pop songs to sell because blues isnt in the market or on the radio to make a living, but loves blues most” and it shows. He is a very competent musician and its funny when teens see him live and wonder why he solos for 10mn instead of singing the whole time.
Which interview does he say this?
Shikhin Dahikar heard him say it live at a concert In Washington DC
I feel like that was a old interview. He made his money so now he can play and write whatever he wants. I agree the younger generation is killing the music industry but for now we have guys like Mayer/Dave Mathews band that put on great shows when they come to town.
i love your coment !!
It’s what the people want
Great quality! Appreciate the 4K.
John Mayer somehow fits the band perfectly. Really good guitar player .
John doesn’t realize just how good he really is. You’re nothing short of an outright fool if you think Mayer is a bad fit for the Dead. His virtuoso guitar, butter sweet vocals and youthful joy were the shot in the arm the boys needed to enter their senior renaissance phase of playing. This is as good as anything from 1983. Chimenti and O are fantastic fits as well.
He sings on key too, so its kind of off brand for the dead.
@@alexbellin8197 😂😂😂
Yah right try Jerry. This self important guitar player trying to play Jerry’s music is like shitting on a diamond
@@biffjohnson7891 unfortunately if you haven't heard Jerry Garcia passed away....
@@biffjohnson7891 lol self important. He gives free lessons on instagram stream on a regular basis. He doesn't need to do that, but he loves guitar and wants to pass guys love and knowledge down to the next generation to keep it going. You don't know shit about the man except for what you've seen in the media, and the media twists shit out of proportion all the time. Come off it. Mayer was the ONLY choice for a fitting guitarist. You just can't get over the fact that Jerry is gone for good.
There may never be another Jerry, but there will never be another John either. ......... nuff said!

Hahahaha. Great comment. Can’t wait to find some!
Shrooms make everything more enjoyable whether it be a concert, playing golf, climbing mtns, skiing or high speed driving in my 997...
There are no numbers but there are 222 comments...I love John Mayer,I just haven’t seeen them since 1995 because it’s bittersweet....Jerry’s death occurred while I was going through a heartbreak. I went to Vegas show with a guy I thought I would end up spending the rest of my life with, but he turned out to be a liar and many women on the string. The rest of summer Alannis Morrisette was screaming” You Oughta Know” And then while preparing a sandwich for a golfer at the 9 hole shack the news of Jerry’s death came on ,
I dropped everything froze and thought I would faint. The golfers were kind and patent and though they weren’t crying, I could tell they were moved and seeds had been planted inspiring them to listen to more of this bands music and my tears watered the seeds so they will listen for the profound meaning of the lyrics not just the music
Got my heart broke at the same Vegas show..
Bobby was giving it everything he had and more. Holy shit this was awesome
They were very well rehearsed at the end of the tour. I saw them last week in Hollywood but I think I'm going to make Boulder the priority from here on out.
Griz Mileham hell yeah! I’m actually seeing my first show tomorrow night
@@IsaiahKeiser sweet! Come back in here and let us know how it was.

Clearly everyone in the band is having a lot of fun. We all miss Jerry, but these guys are very tight. Splendid.
Ultimate jam band. It's got to be fun for John Mayer.

Absolutely.......agree 100 percent
i hated it when he first joined but im over it now hes a great guitarist so f my predispositions
@@lolalulu7568 Yeah a lot of people still give him gruff. "He's not Jerry!" Nope, he's not, he's Mayer and he's proven himself to be pretty damned good, even if he doesn't "channel God through his guitar." :) Honestly, he may be about the only person good enough and arrogant enough to pull it off, because many a guitarist would have been petrified to step into those shoes.
He is having the best time ever! Honestly, what musician wouldn’t? Odeil and Jeff’s grins are infectious. They are digging it!
No phones in the crowd. Just smiles and dancing :) happiest place on earth (~);}

@@johnmichael1594 spot on.
.....that fact had escaped my notice, thanks for pointing that out!....
Don't forget the pot
OK boomer
Never imagined I would see John Mayer playing with the Dead but I gotta say he is a perfect fit. His playing is perfect, maybe he should grow his hair out or something, lol!
Well he’s grown his hair out lol
Nah. I think it's the PERFECT message. The times change... People change... But the music is eternal and it's a testament to the creativity of the people who made it, but others can carry on in their footsteps and through them the spirit of the music lives on. He's not trying to be Jerry or anything, he's just happy to be a proficient enough player to be able to do a good job filling those shoes, and in turn become part of the monumental legacy this music will someday leave in it's wake.
Maybe even grow a beard 😂
He needs a full on Jerry beard 😂
This really rocks. Jeff, John, and Oteil are having fun. They all are.
I love them all so much being such a old deadhead & hippie still !❤️🐰🐇☄️❤️🔥💥
This video unexpectedly gave me so many Any Given Thursday vibes. The color of the light on JM, and his signature jump.. It somewhat reminded me of how big of a journey he has behind himself.
Mayer looks at home good for him!
I just love this. The music never stopped.
Love when people
Are unaware of how incredible
John Mayer is and then see things like this. What a savage
Having seen John a few times doing his pop music , I wasn't impressed. I did see him with a blues trio that he toured with , way different! Waiting for the chance to see this lineup ! He looks like he is really enjoying doing this music !
Right lol? I went to the Eric Clapton crossroads guitar festival in Texas In like 2004, and John Mayer was up there with BB King and Eric Clapton, and all these amazing guitarists and John Mayer was one of the ones that stood out and shone brightest. Knowing him from your body is a wonderland , I was so shocked seeing his guitar wail the blues alongside bb king with such beauty. So, I’ve always enjoyed seeing when people discover how freaking awesome he is , and the dead and company version of John maybe is him at his very best, in my opinion! Hope he never stops.

Lot of appreciation for Mickey and billy... bringing that amount of energy through out the DEAD show in this age is not easy
Shame only Billy is capable of keeping time these days...
@@tompoynton Was never Mickeys role to keep the time, thats Billy's role. Mickey's role is to add percussion, color, cosmic vibrations. At its best the Dead were a perfect ensemble, each member with their unique place in the kalidascope of sound. NFA ⚘
It was never Mickey’s role to keep time, he follows Bill’s playing and adds on to it
It would be really cool if they put out a new ablum, at first i didnt like john mayor becuase i was such a fan of jerry, but he is a perfect fit. No one can replace jerry but john mayor can play.
Wonder if this is the hint we are finally getting 4K webcasts this run..I sure hope so
Wishful thinking, certainly possible though. I feel like if nugs invested more time and probably money into super stable internet/ethernet sources then the broadcasts could go over swell in 4K HD, pulling for it, if so I'll buy a couch tour pass 100%
I'll take higher fidelity sound with the streams :)

@@TheGabrielberki We have been wondering the same thing .. I say Friday 3 PM ET lol
TURN UP OTEIL!
Amen
I was there and it’s a shame you can’t feel his presence very well in this mix, but I promise he was THUMPING in the front of house mix.
There were line arrays flown all over the stadium with subs on the floor. And that old stadium was rumbling. So I heard everything he played.
The mix was excellent. Peace.
absolutely. This is my favorite band but Oteils bass is way to low. Been saying this since day one.
@ 0:19 *I thought I was watching Pat Smear playing bass for a second LOL!!!*
Really have to hand it to these people for keeping the good vibes going on and on! I hope that they are able to keep going for many more years! ☮️☯️⚛️
Can't get behind John Mayer singing with the Dead. This is a Cover, of a Cover, of a Cover, of a Cover of a Grateful Dead cover band. Should have hung the repertoire up with Jerry and moved on to other things.
Amen to that. Hope they keep this together for as long as possible. They're bringing so much happiness and good vibes into the world.. Just wish ticket prices didn't keep going up but I guess that's unfortunately the world we're living in now. Still rather have a world with Dead and Co in it than without!! ✌
I mean Bob said himself (paraphrased) that he felt the dead's purpose was to bring their body of work to the people, he just believes that this is the best way to bring the music to the people, I think in the interview he even called it a piece of Americana. plus how is it a that much of a cover band? all the original surviving members save for Phil is in it.
@@justaname2422 It's not a cover band whatsoever. You just can't please everyone and there's always gonna be party poopers. If Mayer is good enough for Bob he's good enough for me. But, I wouldn't just say that and go along with Bob if I didn't hear it and see it for myself..and it's been nothing short of spectacular..the entire summer run. I saw those first shows 4 years ago at MSG and right off the bat I was converted after just a few minutes of hearing how great Mayer sounded with them..and it's only getting better and better now that they have 4 years together.. and with some luck..many more years to come!! Plus they have their not so secret weapon funking everything up and keeping people dancing..Oteil! Personally...for me he's the MVP of the band. It's so much fun seeing how much he gets into the music and he just brings such a wealth of talent and positivity to the band and the overall scene. The show at citifield was smokin but I really can't wait til they're back at the Garden this Fall.. there's nothing like seeing them at the world's greatest arena! And for folks who think it's a cover band..oh well.. it's their loss. ✌️
Oh yes.... Halloween and the 1st is coming up quick! Can't wait!!!
Mickey is on his feet!! Frickin rip it mickey!! Git it my dog!!! Goin' off!! Steal that face! Face gone!!!
John's microtonal bend at approx 1:30... so simple yet SO good.
those cords soothe my soul✌🏻
Mayer has always been underestimated in my opinion. His voice always kept him in the “pop” genre but if you look at early jams he always ripped man. His teacher at Berkeley said he would never be a true musician... guess he’s laughing all the way to the next gig over that one!
John has transcended his former self. Playing with the dead was a missing piece for him. His originals are honest and pure, his playing is complete. It's so good to be alive and seeing this great music being made right now. The Dead are playing better than they've played in 40 years, easily.
@@drive-byguitarlessons1858 Not to take away from the rest of your comment, but John's originals have always been honest and pure. His first album is probably his most introspective. However, I do agree with you that playing with the Dead has furthered his facilities, and we certainly are lucky to see his constant progression. Cheers!
wow thanks for pointing that out. Makes me wonder how much other stuff i overlook
It’s funny how time works. I heard the Grateful Dead nearly kicked Bob out of the band early on. 55 years later he’s still kickin’ it to stadiums.
Wow if only I could remember the Boulder shows in 4K too. Can’t wait for the bus to pick me up in Charlotte!
John is really something here.... really something else
Sheer and total joy. Kudos to Mayer for fitting in with the band. Look at the audience! Happy old hippies! Wish I was there.
john fits perfectly, it's his playground
Great to see Bobby jumping around like I remember from the old days. John sounds like he was meant to cover for Jerry.
Comparing them to other generations of the band seems unwise and pointless. They are still giving people a magical experience right now.
The 'grass is greener' mindset just makes it harder to appreciate and enjoy what is in front of us.
Seems like a real blessing that the Dead can still be out touring after all this time - for the band as well as their fans.
JM with Dead and company is on occasion like throwing jet fuel on a bonfire..Even more impressive the originals just bringing the house down.
Idk why but John mayer and pirates of the Caribbean go together for me

I checked out the dead because I'm a John Mayer fanboy. At first listen I wasn't really blown away which I'm embarrassed to admit, but reading through these comments, I'm seeing all these crazy stories. It's incredible how much a small group of people can affect so many people's lives, as painfully cliche as that sounds. It's an incredible demonstration of why music is such a powerful force and why it can do something as little as helping pass the time or literally causing armies to surrender a battle. I'm late to the game, of this I'm aware, but i'm glad I'm at least late to the game as opposed to never showing up.
They say change is the only constant. You can see that in action here with John Mayer (the change) joining the Dead (the constant), and the constant remaining constant as ever. Maybe even more so. They're all so great together and complementary to one another's talent❤🔥❤🔥❤🔥
