Obviously there are question marks about how Edey's game will translate, but how you can give a team in NEED OF A BIG MAN an "F" grade for taking a flyer on a big man who was the back to back consensus National Player of the Year, ESPECIALLY in this weak draft class, is just beyond laughable. I think his screen setting and offensive rebounding is going to be huge for the Grizzlies. Literally the perfect big to play along side Jaren too.

Steven Adams is still on the team and will still be the starter, especially cause Edey is NOT nba ready. He doesn’t have a move when the post hook is shut down

Spurs made an all-time bonehead move in this draft. Drafting Castle who is a SG who can't shoot at 4 and then trading out of their PG pick at 8. Looks like SAS gonna be a lottery team next year also. Your right, C is dumb I would give the grade an F tbh.

You must have missed Edey's draft combine, had a faster sprint and better shooting than Alex and you can't say that kind of bigman is outdated cause he isn't fast and plays his back to the basket when you have guys like Jokic and Embiid

Those kind of picks they landed are how the Knicks just got Bridges. That 2030 swap should be pretty nice too as a best of Dallas/Minnesota with only top 1 protection. I really wanted Dillingham back when he was listed at 176 lbs but once I saw he was really 164 at the combine my interest dried up completely. I don't mind the trade, especially with Holland off the board if they didn't like what they saw out of Buzelis in workouts. If Holland was still there at 8 that would've been hard to swallow.

You lost my interest when you put Edey down. This guy has a game, and believe it or not, when a guy can put up 27 pts a game, and pull down 13 rebounds per game, he's a player. oh, and CAN shoot. was not asked to for Purdue, but when you can make 14 of 25 3 point shots at the Combine he has serious potential, and coaching will get him there. Love his inside game, and his little baby hook shot. You'll be eating your words on this one.

I think Edey has the highest ceiling of anyone in this draft, and the only team with a higher grade for me in the first round is the Lakers. How did Knecht fall that far, and how lucky is JJ Reddick to have that be his first pick as a head coach?

Edey outquicked Sarr and Clingam in the combines. The NBA isn't a dunk or 3 point contest. It's about rebounds. Denver outsized other teams a couple years ago. Everyone's the Flash brothers until they start missing.

VW-Sochan-Castle will be a defensive juggernaut in clutch time (where the Spurs lost 19 games by 6 pts or less). That 12-15 wins next year.

Like the Gasol brothers, Edey fits the Grizzlies Grit and Grind ethos. As a kid Edey played hockey and baseball(as a pitcher, like Randy Johnson). In High school the coach said Just dunk the ball. In college the coach said Just shoot the hook shot. No on could stop it. In the NBA the coach will say shoot the 20 footer. He'll make them, freeing up Jah Morant for drives. And setting some LARGE picks. Good luck shooting over him in the lane.

Besides Wemby. Castle was the easiest pick we’ve had since Tim Duncan. At 4 you buy his potential as a onball creator. One of the few guys with star upside. Can’t wait till he’s a Jimmy Butler type player and people turn their opinion on him
Giving Edey an F is crazy lol. I think he’ll actually be a solid player in the league, not super great offensively but great defensively somewhat like a Rudy Gobert or somebody like that but obviously a step below him on that end. I think he could be like a 10 pts, close to 10 reb and 2 blks type of player.

Plenty of guys post up and have success. Jokic, Embiid, Zubac, Valenciunas, Adebayo. They all post up at least 20% of their shots and none of them shot 3’s entering the league. Most still barely ever attempt them.
Edey has only been playing basketball for 6 years. Similar to Embiid when he entered the league. I think he will be just fine.

Cling Kong is nice for the 7th pick, but I was hoping Blazers would pick up Cody Williams. Scoot, Sharpe, Williams, Deni, and DA would have been interesting. Clingan will definitely be a project playing behind DA for this upcoming season.

Edey does not move like a lumbering slow footed big man from the 80s lol. The guy is surprisingly fast and has bounce! He's not Tacko Fall- which is a guy that struggled to get across half court due to him being so big and slow. And then the guy could barely get off the floor. Edey can soar. Look at his film! He wont dominate the way he did in colllege, but he will be a very good player in the nba.

Picking #9 a player that was on the 20's is so wild to me. They could've trade down and pick him at like 18 or 19
I was glad my cavaliers picked up Jaylen Tyson. I think he'll be a solid contributer off the bench. On another note I can't believe the Lakers got such a steal in Dalton Knecht. Sources had him as a top 10 picks going as low as 5 or 6.
When you compare Clingan’s combine to Eddy, Eddy was faster than him. So to give him an A and Eddy an F because he is slow footed doesn’t make sense.

The best centers in the NBA are predominantly post scorers: Jokic only shoots three 3-pointers per game. One-dimensional post scoring talent in the NBA usually underperforms because they have mediocre size and lack defensive proficiency or the physical and athletic prowess to compensate. Zach Edey is 7'4 with a filled-out body, and he isn't an underwhelming rebounder like Frank Kaminsky, Jahlil Okafor, Alex Len, Cody Zeller...
As a hawks fan, I'm waiting for MLK day, Hawks vrs Wizz......

Regarding the Edey pick, I think F is a bit harsh. Speaking as a Jazz fan, there are times when Gobert should have been punishing teams who put a smaller guy on him, but he couldn't because he simply did not have a post-up game worth mentioning. Going against the current "meta" of the league also means that a lot of teams won't have an answer for Edey because everyone it trying to be the Warriors or Nuggets.
