Have you considered a Patreon? IMO, I wouldn't mind signing up for a dollar or two a month given the astonishing amount of content you've produced. I'm sure others would as well.
This is BY FAR one of Thoorin's best videos and I'm going to start linking this in every guide of mine. People struggle to understand that you don't need to copy everything. This goes for everything like builds, champion pools or even stuff outside of League. There are always going to be stronger and FOTM champions but that doesn't mean you can do your own thing For me personally, I consider myself weak in regards to mechanical skill, so I've always stuck to easier champions (Xerath, Viktor probably being the hardest I play). I'll never be that guy that is a god on Lee Sin, but I can live with it :P
But don't push the concept too far, or turn it on its head. Generally, the strongest strategy's are the best ones to go for. Sometimes, your style might be better for you.
I love the concept in this video. It reminded me of a quote by Eric Thomas where he said, "when you become the 'right-person', what you do is you start separating yourself from other people, you begin to have a certain uniqueness. As long as you follow other people, as long as you being a 'copy-cat', you will never, ever be the best 'copy-cat' in the world, but you will be the best you can be, so challenge yourself to define your value."
your video today is one of the best presents for me. Love your content and im so happy that you produce more and more even after it didnt work out with ongamers.
totally love the pace of you uploading videos, they are really informative (give huge insight into pro scenes which is MOSTLY unbiased) and entertaining
I totally agree! To become good at something you have to know the meta. To become the best at something you have to break the meta in a way that favors the essence in your personality.
What I remember most from the Flame interview was this exact thought. Flame stated that Blaze playing their own style lead them on that undefeated streak and that trying to copy other styles lead to their demise in subsequent seasons. He also stated that most teams in Korea had the same sentiment, that playing your style would lead to victory.
Great advice for anyone who wants to get better at any competitive game, whether you plan to go big or not. I also want to add that, in my time with competitive FPS, RTS, and fighters, I have deliberately practised styles that were not my own. Not so that I can apply this style in future matches, but so that I can better understand how it works, where it is weak, and why I am losing to it.
Love this video, amazing content, keeps me playing to improve. I hope your near future is full of new opportunities man no one can make as much quality content as you ! Respect your work !
I have to say this particular video is making me a subscriber. Thoorin gives out well detailed points and makes you think. I do have to wonder if your thoughts about sticking to your own personal style applies to certain champion builds. I'm not talking about unorthodox ones like Ryan Choi's x99 Doran's Blade on Rengar, but more like taking advice from guides to alter your build in game if a particular path isn't working.
More of these videos plz...and even longer so I have something to listen to on my MP3...great stuff that actualy helps me improve my english and brainz at the same time...I r8 gr8 m9
Thooorin Respect for this content. Just letting you know that I am getting into CS:GO and even dipping my toe into some BW thanks to you. You should set up a patreon. In the last few weeks you have put out over 10 hours of content. Considering I am about to pay £10 ish to go see the new Hobbit tonight a few pounds a month is the least I could do. Would love to support. Could pay for the graphics and editing for SI etc. (though at this point the raw nature of the videos is charming in its own right. Oscar nomination to Thorin for the RPK fantasy hilltop recruitment scene)
I believe you are incorrect about the increased rocket damage in QL: direct damage is still 100, but the radius was decreased and speed increased. So I would disagree that it was a better defensive weapon than it was in Q3. I believe the splash damage was changed not long ago, but that is long after the IEM days when Rapha was the best player.
I really appreciate Thorin for giving us so much content. My real concern is if you will burn out quickly by producing so many videos so frequently. Keep it up man, and get a coach position for CS:GO and LoL ;)
Merry X-mas, Thorin. Can't wait to see your content in 2015. Btw I would like to hear your opinion on not having a Chinese expert on the analyst desk at Worlds, and also who would be best suited for that position(maybe Kelsey?). Cheers, mate :)
Thorin. I didn't like you, but this is a godly video in the concept of gaming as an individual, life as an individual to be honest.... Good job :) I watch your videos regardless, but this honestly changed my opinion.
Thooorin First off thanks for all the content so far and have a good Christmas and New Year, I look forward for more videos in 2015. I would like your opinion on the comparison of ScreaM and Insec, They both have their own distinctive styles in both respective games are far from Meta, but both have the same issues with consistency at the highest level due to the risk their style represents. Would you say that these styles are limited in the sense their seems to be a point that you reach with pure mechanical skill cannot carry you past the players at the top of the meta
i'm actually surprised you didn't use krimz as a cs example. You are always talking about how he is, or at least was, the best player in the world even though he wasn't one of the aggressive "highlight reel" players. seems like he fit perfectly into the topic of this video, but i can understand that you can't fit every example into the time frame. anyway, nice thoughtful video as always
Strange that you made this today, I was watching some rapha interviews last night and remember him talking about playing to his strengths and that being a lot of the reason he is successful. Any chance of some quake content at some point?
Crizzl I have played CSGO since 2010 but quake has always appealed to me since I watched rapha vs cooller at IEM with rapha commentating over the replay and explaining what he was doing, an amazing amount of individual skill and intelligence required to play at a high level, only just started considering starting to learn it myself though.
everyone with a decent set of fingers has potential personality is what sees it fulfilled and thats what you have to look at which is why the public cant ever judge potential
Stop drink coffee guy you speak as fast as master yii i am not english so it's pretty hard to understand but what i can understand is so cool thanks you for this video
I'm sure he has made some taglines he wants to address. In addition, I'm sure he has rehearsed it a couple of times to not sound like a complete ass and stutter, make long pauses etc. However, if he is reading from a manuscript - doubt it. Rehearsed and prepared - most likely.
dont agree, he just brings up a couple examples. the main point is explained at the beginning. but i agree it would be nice to have some sort of "navigation" to specific parts of the video.
No, as optimistic as this sounds it just isn't true about what is successful in the Gaming world What works consistently is when You play and exploit the meta for your gain There's a reason metas exist, it's because they're proven in scientific process to be *the* *best* method for its current time And if you're not good enough to do so, then rip wait for a new meta and hope you can exploit that one instead Because in the words of Dopa, who has achieved rank #1 in KR and Chinese LoL servers, who claims that only Faker is his equal: "Gaming is mostly about talent over effort" Which is the only irrefutable truth, no matter how much effort you put into practice, you can and will still lose vs people who don't try but are just naturally talented I mean think about it, if everyone could git gud with practice, then lower Elo brackets would be far less populated Tl;Dr Natural Talent + Meta > Practice with unique play styles
And before you even attempt to refute this Remember SKT T1 won LoL world championship 3 times, the most World Championship wins from any team in LoL history By following the Meta
Lots of content coming in 2015
I like the way that you view situations is Esports at the moment! keep on doing this your content is great!
Lovin the videos man very helpful and informative =)
Have you considered a Patreon? IMO, I wouldn't mind signing up for a dollar or two a month given the astonishing amount of content you've produced. I'm sure others would as well.
who's more skilled faker or cypher?
A minute for every inch, right?
This is BY FAR one of Thoorin's best videos and I'm going to start linking this in every guide of mine.

Thooorin ur mum mate
Thooorin No problem man, give credit where credit is due! You should really try setting up a Patreon
Watching this video twice. Maybe I'll add it to my music playlist.
Merry Christmas Thoorin, thanks for brining us awesome content, please keep it flowing in 2015 !
Happy Holidays
:D
The analysis of Rapha's and Cypher's strength hits a chord in my soul that only music usually reaches. Ever. Thanks for making this video Thooorin!!

High level of thought displayed by this man. Good thinking thorin.

TLDR dont challenge gods in their own domain, pull them down to your level and beat them with experience.
kibateo Thats also how you argue with smarter people.
Love this video, amazing content, keeps me playing to improve. I hope your near future is full of new opportunities man no one can make as much quality content as you ! Respect your work !
A truly magnificent speech. I liked 4:43, 10:22 and 15:02. Very inspirational. Subscribed.
Sensational content, thank you again Thorin, and Merry Christmas!
Happy Holidays

Who you think in cs terms had a very unorthodox play style as you stated in this amazing video?
Thooorin Respect for this content. Just letting you know that I am getting into CS:GO and even dipping my toe into some BW thanks to you. You should set up a patreon. we want beard back man :).

Great video and insight. I didn't know you did this kind of thing. Will definitely subscribe :)
Thorin. I didn't like you, but this is a godly video in the concept of gaming as an individual, life as an individual to be honest.... Good job :) I watch your videos regardless, but this honestly changed my opinion.
Good job Thorin! Great video. I'm so glad you're doing such great content. Fk ongamers.
Cheers from Argentina!
love your vids man, merry christmas!

You should do a video on how to find your Individual strengths you make everything, make sense ^.^
i'm actually surprised you didn't use krimz as a cs example. Strange that you made this today, I was watching some rapha interviews last night and remember him talking about playing to his strengths and that being a lot of the reason he is successful. Any chance of some quake content at some point?
There is some quake examples in this from around the 14-15 minute mark I think.
Crizzl Yeah I know that's why I mentioned rapha because throrin spoke about him. I mean in future videos man :)
Oh okay. Yeah I'd like to see some quake content too. :)
Jessie Tanner I'm pretty sure it's this: ua-cam.com/video/XdkDjsBiO58/v-deo.html
everyone with a decent set of fingers has potential personality is what sees it fulfilled and thats what you have to look at which is why the public cant ever judge potential
Wow, you are amazing.
@thooorin more naturally skilled forest or cypher?
Merry Christmas thooorin
FUCK THIS CHANNEL IS SO GOOD!!!!
Thorin bro, what about Kakao in terms of raw mechanics? D:
Korean isn't the only Master Race. Everybody else can be a Master Race
You don't need to be the master race, just master your race.
Thooorin In Terms of League in the western scene. Which Player do you think is the most succesful person in their own way?
*****
It´s me, Mario!
Thooorin Whoa
Thooorin the poet speaks
so.. the quake guy was basically batman?
Stop drink coffee guy you speak as fast as master yii i am not english so it's pretty hard to understand but what i can understand is so cool thanks you for this video
Would slowing down video speed help?
maybe
happy holidays people :) gl hf
how do I become an esports historian?
Watch it for a very very long time is the only real way
first! and keep it goin Thorin!!!!!
RIP Insec the jungler.
Just wondering, are these podcasts scripted or does he make these up as he goes?
I'm sure he has made some taglines he wants to address. In addition, I'm sure he has rehearsed it a couple of times to not sound like a complete ass and stutter, make long pauses etc. However, if he is reading from a manuscript - doubt it. Rehearsed and prepared - most likely.
Dou you really need to do Cocaine to do an Episode Thorin?
Ohhh savior, you were so respected before that whole match fixing thing
I like Csgo
Korea learned from M5 i'm pretty sure. Koreans watch Europe to innovate.
The only thing I don't like about these are that I feel they're really long and kind of repetitive.
dont agree, he just brings up a couple examples. the main point is explained at the beginning.
but i agree it would be nice to have some sort of "navigation" to specific parts of the video.
Nine Inch Thooorins
nailed it
Getting real sick of "crucially" now. Oh well, good videos regardless.
thats the problem with this korean thing, other regions want to be like them, it just wont work that way
No, as optimistic as this sounds it just isn't true about what is successful in the Gaming world
What works consistently is when You play and exploit the meta for your gain
There's a reason metas exist, it's because they're proven in scientific process to be *the* *best* method for its current time
And if you're not good enough to do so, then rip wait for a new meta and hope you can exploit that one instead
Because in the words of Dopa, who has achieved rank #1 in KR and Chinese LoL servers, who claims that only Faker is his equal:
"Gaming is mostly about talent over effort"
Which is the only irrefutable truth, no matter how much effort you put into practice, you can and will still lose vs people who don't try but are just naturally talented
I mean think about it, if everyone could git gud with practice, then lower Elo brackets would be far less populated
Tl;Dr
Natural Talent + Meta > Practice with unique play styles
And before you even attempt to refute this
Remember
SKT T1 won LoL world championship 3 times, the most World Championship wins from any team in LoL history
By following the Meta
Not everyone can exploit the meta and win. Sometimes your skill set is better spent in a different way.
Curocko and that's why not everyone can rise to the top
Do you think if rapha tried to play cyphers style he would get good results?
Curocko who were they?
