Exactly. What happened in HK was outright disgusting. I don't really blame those that can't understand Cantonese to support the radicals at first. But the revolting actions of them bullying and turning to physical attacks on even older folks and women that disagree with them should have been a red flag. Their mannerism are no different from gangsters. And then the one-sided media coverage of the incidents, looking the other way and refusing to even report those violence at times until it was so hard to hide. Absolutely disgusting.
I am on the same boat as this young man growing up I found myself siding more left and whenever I mention China having things we don’t the average response has always been “well move there then” even among people of my own political views; and in fact I did in 2019 I went there and told all my friends that I did and what I saw; it was such a hurdle because at that time I had to do travel visa and all that. Anyway coming back I was totally disillusioned with what we were taught about China the first thing my closest friend told me when I said how amazing it was; “well you look the part… of course nothing will happen to you if you go there” that was the last straw when I completely gave up on the political left of the west; I am still living in the west but I am so far removed from both political parties as I realized both the parties and the people in them actually do not want to better themselves or at all and are in essence one of the same I’m just here to watch it all slowly burn down as the biggest militaristic empire in the world.
In China we have a saying this kind of mentality: a solitary flower in love with its own fragrance. Many of the left groups in the west aren't interested in solving real problems in real life, which are usually messy, requires hard labor and most of the time thankless. Sitting back and pointing out that China is not pure and good enough for them is much easier.
I am Mainland Chinese, I will always remember the little story which my ex, who is Aussie, once told me, that after her stay in China for more than 2 years and headed back to Australia for Christmas, during her family gatherings people asked her a lot about China, yet whatever she said about it that was positive and not reported by the medias, people chose not to believe. Even though she was the one who properly had lived in the country.
Drugs and GOD destroy America 😢. The Americans played a great part in destroying the German industries for the humanitarian hell we live in today. Everywhere that American go, it seek and destroy.
We have been used to hear "democracy" = USA and "communism" = China. But the factual reality is : Violent Plutocracy= USA and "Peaceful social-meritocracy = China.
I envy you Willem, I want to escape to China also. Life in the west is pretty depressing, China has a bright and positive future. China would un-depress me.
China is as interesting as any other country😊😊. Westerners usually over hype things that seem different. China and Chinese are just like any other country or people. The MSM just write nonsense making China and Chinese feel like strange aliens from another universe.
Daniel, you are a gem, yes you do not post every week( but who cares, when your work- also with Willem ) carries so much weight!! I wish I could find an email or something to have a quick chat with you. Nothing more.... you are amazing.
Daniel, great work as usual! I enjoyed every minute of it! You asked probing and intelligent questions that drew out insights that are luminating to my mind. This is a incredibly intelligent and eloquent young man. An independent thinker. But still too few people in the US are like him, that's why the US is what it is.
This was me 20 years ago sigh... I left the US and had the opportunity wo work in Beijing after Bush got re-elected, and I felt I was going to give up on the system. But unfortunately, i was still too young and naive, bought in the Obama BS during 08 and moved back to the US. 20 years later, I regretted that move so badly every single day, more so after given everything I got during the two Bernie Sanders run.
A number of comments by Americans state that they are concerned about how much America has declined. As long as you have a college education, life is bearable with an employment. My concern is that the anti-China sentiment is so strong as though America is under attack by China. Yet there's a huge ocean intervening and over 300 US's military bases encircle China with its navy patroling China's coastlines. So really it's China under threat.
Your story about the veteran's assembly in school reminds me of a line in a song, from my buddies band. I’ve been watching Daniel’s videos for a few years now. So much of what Willem said was so relatable. Being in my 20s in the USA, there just isn’t a lot of hope in the political system here going forward. So many young people here are becoming disenchanted and increasingly nihilistic and have no power to change anything.
There is a TV Series in China called "The Age of Awakening" and one channel here on UA-cam has English subtitles. Watching that gave me hope and inspired me to think that even for a hopeless country like the US, there could be some way to turn things around but it takes strength in a number of the people equipped with the knowledge and patience to want to change things around. China could do it, and the US can do it too if the people aren't so divisive.
I need to know more about this young dude’s background in order to understand why he made the decision to come to China under the current very hostile Western media and administration in the US.
10:40 He does read. As Mr. Darcy says ... “ and to all this she must yet add something more substantial, in the improvement of her mind by extensive reading.” Reading great works of great authors is the most practical way to learn by their experience and thought.

I'm very impressed by Willem's knowledge base, particularly for a 22-year-old. I agree with many of his values and the concept of making the world a better place for everyone to live in. Also, this is one nice thing that some privileged few of us have, which is the option of being able to live and work in another country. There is so much we can learn from each other.
The 144 hrs/15 days/30 days visa free that China just rolled out for some countries are absolutely awesome. Before the Covid 19 pandemic, it was difficult for most coming to China due to expensive visa requirement, i.e, it costed $160 USD for States citizens.
I would do the same but its difficult to learn the Chinese language and adhere to their culture. I sick of America and Americans. At 62yrs old it might be too later for me to learn again.
I agree that it's long but I enjoyed every minute of it. As a suggestion, Daniel, make multiple segments of it or select some nuggets of it and make multiple Tiktok videos. You will get way more views and broaden the viewership and influence. This video is worth so many more people to see!!

Great conversation! It’s good for Argentinian people that Milei has changed his tune a bit with regards to working with China. I’m only afraid this will be used by some of the western liberal left as proof / narrative that China is not western left (communist/socialist)but this authoritarian oppressive country who works together with leaders who are clearly not left. Hi Daniel, I’m a senior person. This young man reminds me of the students around me back on university campus in the 1960’s/70’s. Very likeable. But into the second half of the session, his ‘yeah, like…I’m like…” is very disturbing. If he’s in China to teach English, he should start speaking proper English himself. Don’t transport such awful colloquialism on the Chinese. It hardly helps them articulate and communicate.
