The Purple rain solo on the record is actually a live recording he judged was good enough for the album version: his first take or draft was usually the one he would go with cause he was just that good. Its not raining heavily (yet!) in this clip but later on its pouring. When the organisers told him about upcoming rain during the performance he asked if there was any way to get it to rain more, for performance drama. Hes a legend and the Chuck Norris of music, unbeatable.
There's nothing that Prince did that Jimi Hendrix didn't do before or could not have done better. Prince was a very gifted practitioner of the guitar in the way that Hendrix played it. He was not an originator

Only took me 30+ times watching this to realize: The McClean Twins are actually mic'd and singing back-up vocals on the chorus - while dancing their tails off - in heels - during a rain shower. No wonder Prince had them as his main dancers for over a decade and traveled around the world with them on tour, but also showing up with them at clubs and parties! Love the pictures of them walking the red carpet with him - a sister on each arm!
