My son does not place any Pokemon on the bench and once the first Pokemon is out he waits to collect the whole deck and then places Pokemon and attacks with his strongest Pokemon. Does this violate the rules? I don't think so.
Play continues until one player wins - either by collecting all three of their Prize tokens, or when the other player has no more Pokémon left in play. I think :D
you do, it's very important to play the game correctly.. you could always just make your own energy cards out of cardboard or paper and then just draw/write whatever you want on it!
