    Fabricated the panels on the chassis rail and inner sill...now I can make the rest thanks to watching you.
    It's amazing that they all rust in the exact same places

    Thank you so much for your videos! I've been dreading tackling the rocker panels on my 2006 Mazda Tribute. Thankfully, they've been covered in plastic trim so I didn't have to see them. After seeing your videos it didn't seem like such and impossible task. Just keept cutting away all the bad stuff, and build it back on piece at a time from the inside out. Thanks for giving me confidence to tackle this project! So far so good.

      Hi Paul, it is a daunting task when if your own car but take lots of pictures for reference as your taking back, don't be in a rush, consider each layer an achievement and enjoy it, then start and plan the next :) enjoy the process the end result is always satisfying knowing you have done it yourself :)

    Watching your fantastic videos as part of teaching myself basic welding to fix up my 2001 Yaris. And holy f*** looks like if you can fix a rotten MX5 you can literally tackle any rust repair. It's reassuring that there are definitely rustier cars out there than my bright gold rot box 🤣🤣

    And to think that I regarded mine as rusty! Replacing the bottom part of the front rails was a piece of cake compared to what you have to deal with. I somtimes don't know how you can find clean metal to solder onto. Congrats from France.

Im particularly keen on the MX5 videos as I have one but saw one of the Porsche one on the deck like me so cant complain I haven't got a car hoist/lift Lol. Again so good to watch. especially as you had a hidden sill section to renew complex your a fabrication genius to my way of thinking. thanks for showing us how to do things absolutely brilliant.

    Is that zinc spray you apply before welding?

  • @TeeJayka
    @TeeJayka 2 роки тому +3

    I'm curious since I'm a self-taught "hobby welder" - it seems to me that your welds are a little too cold and when you drill holes for plug welds, you sometimes fill them in with a few small plug welds instead of one bigger. Do you use this tactic intentionally to make sure you don't blast through the thin sheet metal or is there another reason? Anyway, thanks for this video series, I find it super useful to learn more about rust repairs and making all kinds of shapes from a flat piece of sheet metal. :)

    • @yorkshirecarrestoration
      @yorkshirecarrestoration  2 роки тому +9

      You are correct Tee, that is the ideal way of welding but since we are quite often welding to thin imperfect metal surface we have to adapted and weld colder as not to blow holes, if we cut further back then the repairs to the whole car would be too expensive :)
      It has already blown the customers budget by a long way :)

      Hi Tony. Not as much as you think. The rusteration project was done as a project and a tiny budget but we needed the content so we took it on :)
      In general the sill section repairs we do that include inner, outer sills, and adjacent floor and inner wing are £350 at today's prices :)

    do you ever have to fix other peoples doggy repairs ? and if so what is the most common mistake people make ?

    • @yorkshirecarrestoration
      @yorkshirecarrestoration  2 роки тому +4

      Hi Karen. Yes we do a lot of rework , the two most common mistakes are people start to cut rust out and go way to far making for a very expensive repair or the cover the rust up with a patch panel, that leads to the rust continuing to spread from the inside :)
