Loved this series. I love REM and am in the UK, so I may never see these sights myself. REM are associated with a very happy memory: whilst at university, my now husband surprised me with tickets and a trip to see them in Dublin that summer. We had only been dating about a month at the time. It was an outdoor show and was amazing.
Anybody else clap their hands after Scott said bottles and cans? 👏 Every time I hear Orange Crush I'm behind the concession stand serving snacks at the theater I worked at in high school. They played that over and over during my 12hr shift but I still love it. Every time I hear Losing My Religion I'm right back at our first house (a tiny trailer 🤮) that we refer to now as The Dump. Good video, Scott. Hope you had a great Thanksgiving.
Just came across this. My wife and I did a similar self tour back in the mid 90s. Visited Wuxtry, Weaver D’s, 40 Watt etc. Been a fan of theirs since their early days. Have even gotten to meet Michael a couple of times. Peter and Mike once as well. They even filmed Everybody Hurts’ video a few blocks from our house in San Antonio. Glad to come across another big fan of the band.
Another great vlog fella. The last few days you reminded me just how great they are. Currently listening to around the sun , Leaving New York & the outsiders. Superb. Stay safe 🛵🛵
Thank you Richard! I’m always so happy when someone watches and/or comments on my REM videos . These were a labor of love and a real pilgrimage. I think I did 4 from Athens, let me know what you think of the others !
Oh wow .... Scott I can't believe you were in Athens Ga. !! I live not too far from Athen . I live in Winder Ga. ( Barrow county ) . I was in Athens this past Wednesday . There are a lot of great bands that came out of Athens or just played there . There is a lot of college students that like to party in the bars out there too. I lived in Athens Ga. when I was growing up. We only lived there for a couple of years though. Thank you Scott for sharing all of that information. I didn't know that . Oh and I love the way you pronounce Kudzu . We say it a little different down here in the south . 😉❤
Another great vlog fella. The last few days you reminded me just how brilliant they are , currently listening to around the sun ,, leaving New York ..the outsiders superb 😊 stay safe 🛵
Scott your channel is by far my favorite now. I really dig the info and in depth look at things most of us cant see in person so thank you for really providing such great content for us and for me to enjoy with my morning coffee :)
That was cool seeing those R.E.M. sites, Scott ! Never knew Michael Stipe owns a restaurant there ?i Have a couple of their tunes running thru while you toured the site. 'Time After Time' and '7 Chinese Brothers.' My fave R.E.M. album is 'Murmur.'
I ate at THe Grit when I visited Athens in the early 2000's. If you look at the restaurant license hanging on the wall you see Michael's signature on it as the building's owner. BTW- the food was EXCELLENT.
The cover of murmur...impressive! But you were right down the street from peters old house...sorry, Scott...you gotta go back! Great job from an old Athens resident!
Proud of you for reaching 16.5k followers. I know you'll only continue to grow. You deserve success. And next time you drive through Omaha, we will take a damn selfie lol Much love!!
happy day to you brother and happy thanksgiving! REM rocks! thanks for another cool video! if you ever pass thru WV lets meet up and have a beer! it might help both our channels! cheers!

s Griffett the band always refers to it as Fables of...but at some point fans started calling it Reconstruction of...its confusing lol. I refer to it as Fables of the Reconstruction
I am really enjoying your videos Scott. You've helped me out of some tough times lately with your honesty. I'm out in BC but I'm from Hamilton. And I know a t-dot brother when I see one! Thanks man!!
Was wondering if you have Ever Ventured through Pennsylvania? Gettysburg is extraordinary. I went with family when I was maybe 6. You can totally feel the Somber vibe. Was just wondering my friend, keep on keeping on. ✌️ #Peace
Awesome videos! I’m a huge fan too. I’m planning on going next weekend. You said the kudzu patch was off a dead end road. Do you remember the road name? Thanks for the great videos and info!
I can't choose a favorite REM album. I own both, Out of Time and Automatic For the People on vinyl (like I said on your previous video). I wanted to get Monster but that shit is super expensive on vinyl. Wait nevermind... I just checked I guess Monster just had it's 25th anniversary or something so you can find it for normal price. :DDDD
Talking about "digging deeper" for the real history/meanings....the building that the Grit Restaurant is extremely famous for something quite different from what you talked about. A former UGA journalism student came back to Athens to visit and wrote about it in the magazine he wrote for which was Gourmet Magazine. (The article had nothing to do with food.) Also back in the 1960's LOOK Magazine (similar to LIFE) came to Athens and did an expose about it. I'm going to challenge you to find the older, much more tragic meaning of that building. Good luck with your research.
