Oh my gosh!! I LOVE REM. My dad used to listen to it when I was a young kid, I was born in 1985 so this was right around me being 6 years old. I used to love this song I had one of those toy flowers holding a guitar and if it was next to the stereo it would dance! The OG ones! I used to listen to all my dads music. My mum left me my brother n my Dad that year and my dad was working double shifts as a police officer to keep our house it was a bit of a bad time for me and confusing. But I’d go into the room alone as I was alone a lot, with the stereo in and play my dads records and cds and tapes. I knew I had a special place in my heart for music. I remember hearing REM Everybody hurts as a child, and I sat there and listened. I had tears streaming off my little face. Some other music would bring out clear emotions in me, happy, sad, silly, empathy. I cried when I really listened to Just another day in Paradise by Phil Collins. I’d jump round and be silly to Queen like at the end of One Vision on their album where they sing “ Gimme gimme gimme Fried Chicken!” That’s a little kids dream song 😂 I loved shiny happy people too, I liked the band The Beautiful South, Deacon Blue, Smokey Robinson, he also got me into Micheal Jackson . Mum later got me into Elvis. Wow there’s way too many and I have interest across all genres. I love your channel Scott I’ve always wanted to travel, see America and Canada. In March 2020 I started to feel unwell. Then I woke up in hospital after a 3.5 months long medically induced coma and on a ventilator on life support I couldn’t breathe properly ( non smoker) I’d had a tracheostomy ( hole cut in my throat that they totally botched. Turned out I had covid pneumonitis and they kept me alive til they decided to trial treatments. By then my lungs have been irreversibly scarred beyond any healing.😢 at 34 . I couldn’t listen to any music for nearly 3 years due to being left very disabled, on oxygen 24/7 . I know I don’t have a long life in front of me and I lost my singing voice and love of music. It’s slowly coming back ( the ❤ of music) thanks to videos like this that help me see the bigger picture 😊 if you’re ever in the uk or for some reason my wish to go overseas magically happens I’d love to buy you a drink and chat music with you! You are a cool guy with a great channel. Danielle. Xx
What a comment Danielle wow! A lot of memories for sure . I’m hoping you DO have a long life ahead of you and you get to hear plenty more music . Stay strong, never give up. Wow! You took me back in time, Scott. Back in 1991, I was working for a radio research firm. Remember when people listened to the radio? "Shiny Happy People" was among the songs we asked radio-listeners to rate for our clients.
Scott!! I love R.E.M. Shiny Happy People makes me sooo happy. This was so awesome!!!❤ Loved it. Happy St. Patrick's Day💚😊 Chuckled at "that's mein the spotlight!" Well done⭐

Ive been a huge REM fan since the 80s, my band used to cover a bunch of their songs and they're so much fun to play, did a great cover of night swimming only a heavier distorted version, that band has literally helped me through tough times with their lyrics, i love them

"Superman" is one of my favorites tunes from REM. BTW...I'm with you, when it comes to things and places, over people, when exploring. Thanks for taking us along, and safe travels, Scott.

Wow that is incredible! Scott, we need to get married as they are one of my fave bands as are Nirvana and I’m obsessed with Elvis 😂 REM weren’t my thing back in 1991…That was my New Kids and Marky Mark era…I would’ve considered them just for older people back then but I grew to love all music as I got older and seeing those murals really is something special and the theatre…amazing 😊
So awesome that you got to check this out so cool. The art on the mural alone was good enough for me but the actual theatre where the video was filmed was the icing on the cake. I love REM so this one was very special to me for that reason. Thanks for doing this Scott. I could tell you were like a kid on Christmas Day when you came across the mural & the theatre.
I'm so glad you did this. One of my favorite bands. Losing my religion is my favorite. But ty for this great history lesson and taking us with you. Stay safe❤
Hi Scott, it’s so cool that the R.e.m murals were left since 1991, and great for the kids of that time. That was a brilliant album and a really happy song. Thank you Scott for showing us as well. 🫠🫠🫠🫠✌️👍⭐️

Hello Scott. The way I see it, we all have our favorite bands and if we are so fortunate to visit somewhere that is tied to that artist(s), that is meaningful. No different than visiting a museum or art gallery etc. REM was a FANTASTICALLY unique band and more importantly, they gave you and millions of people joy, an outlet, a distraction...whatever was needed and pleasing. I'm very happy for you to have this experience! And as well, I'm happy for anyone else that shares in your passion for this band to see this video. Good for you kind sir! I went to LA and saw all the important landmarks for Mötley Crüe when I went to their "final show" in 2015. I saw their old appartment just behind the Whiskey, where they filmed Girls Girls Girls, the bars they played and so much more. I have been a fan since Shout At The Devil came out and this side trip was so much to me. So, I get it! You just keep doing what you do. It means everything that you are able to have a job you enjoy.
