The 11th Faulty Mechanic in SSBM

- The 11th faulty mechanic in Melee marks a major discovery! This is the only mechanic in the game that suffers from its own unique polling issue.
Additionally, I’ve updated my recommended fixes for 2 other faulty mechanics.

IN melee
There will never be a 13th faulty mechanic in melee
Uh oh spaghettio
Update: there is a 13th faulty mechanic named at the end of the video
*guy spitting out cereal*
saddness
my 13 reasons why
LMAO POLLING LOSES CONTACT WITH THE WALL
As a former samus main I've always struggled to have consistent wall jumps. It all makes sense now
I casually play Samus and I've definitely noticed this happen every now and then with her. Her walljump on FD just felt inconsistent
FINALLY! I walljump all the time and I’ve noticed it was inconsistent, it would drive me crazy because I KNOW I’m doing it right. Glad I’m not just crazy
I never knew about this, and it's definitely not as big of an issue as some others, but I agree that fixing walljump polling is consistent with all the other fixes in 1.03

yes
Thanks for all the work you put into finding these👑
Guys this is the last one, trust
finally new hax just dropped
You got them notifications on
sup bro, love ur content
no fucking way
Thank you for positng this video, I was starting to have HaxMoney Voice Withdrawal.
I love 1.03 I have the Tournament Edition memory card from the b0xx store. Would it be possible to update my card when these changes become available?
it's usually simple to change save files if u have a modded wii, unless it's some weird special kind of memory card and not a mostly normal one, it should be possible to update if you get the file (Hax probably is going to publish them on friday like he said in the video).
Wait, so the 1.03 memory card I ordered from you is outdated now?
Always has been
I think as long as you homebrewed your wii you can likely still change out the files in your old 1.03 with this new update.
Can't wait until the final version of 1.03! So excited!!
Hax I love your videos and they're super interesting but it's insane you find this shit
If rollback-style fixes are possible, wouldn't a similar technique be better to fix the ADT shield problem? Make it so that if you light shield frame 1 and full shield frame 2 that it rolls back to frame 1 and plays out the two frames as if it was full-shield from the start? It would fix the integrity problem in that you couldn't both reflect and block instantly with the same shield which your current ADT fix breaks. I'm not sure if it's technically possible since it doesn't seem like the walljump fix is actually real rollback, but it seems like it would be a better version of the fix if it is possible.
I find it funny that for each viable character in Melee there's another faulty mechanic
Good 20XX Content
Keep Up
Why are character specific 1 frame techs not considered problematic for polling? Things like DK's ZST, or ICs' PNJ?
furthermore, why is it wrong that some tight sequences are inherently difficult/impossible to hit with 100% consistency? Isn't the execution barrier to these techniques important to the risk vs reward when considering using them? How it is a design error if no one can hit a dk zst with 100% consistency?
@@mymyscellanytrue, but the direction laid out by previous fixes such as ucf is that everything should be able to be done consistently
@@yurplethepurple2064 well that's stupid
Dash back is an exception because you cannot reasonably avoid using dash back. There's just way too many situations it's right. Also it's an exception because some controllers are so much better than it than others because of pode. So ucf makes sense from multiple perspectives.
This does not mean that every technique should be able to be done 100% consistently
@@mymyscellany Techniques should be able to be done 100% consistently if they're input 100% correctly - that's the logic behind polling input fixes. I don't think losing a polling coinflip is a good reason to lose a stock, and I don't think there's a game-design reason behind making a technique inconsistent to execute. Generally speaking, smashers don't like luck
@@mymyscellanyt’s not down to execution. The issue is you can do the exact same muscle movement and the result can depend on whether or not the game polls on a particular frame, which you can’t control

I remember you talking about this at Tipped Off, maybe one day there will be a stealth patched 1.03 in tourney
Edit: I also thought I remembered you saying there would not be a 13th faulty mechanic in the game and you found them all when I asked about more, haha. I wonder what will come out in that Friday vid.
This guy is out here improving the game and mafuckas wanna slander him

FINALLY
June 30th has come and gone.
Pretend everybody is Captain Smuckers... :)
Wow this game is more faulty than my parents relationship
your parents have a relationship?
arissi!
@@Kart MARIO KART!!!
what happened to the 13th faulty mechanic?
Where were you for GOML or DTN?
im a little upset that I bought a 1.03 memcard and now its not up to date :(
so swap the save file for a updated one
At what point are we not even playing the same game anymore... who is placing limiting factors on how much we are allowed to change the game? I'm genuinely curious. Just seems like a slippery slope. Any thoughts on that are appreciated. I tend to view things in a purist light.
I'll start taking box arguments seriously when SOCD is fixed to match other games. The input should neutralize, not overwrite.
What's SOCD?
@heterodoxagnostic8070 Simultaneous Opposing Cardinal Directions. On most controllers and fighting games, hitting both left and right will neutralize the input, so the character essentially isn't moving left or right. On the B0XX, it takes the last pressed direction and overwrites the other so the player never has to return to neutral on a dash dance or anything. It may not seem like much, but the travel distance for transitional controllers (what makes DB and other tech difficult due to polling) is completely negated by the B0XX. I'm not saying DB or any tech should be harder on B0XX, all I'm saying is the B0XX shouldn't have advantages that are impossible on traditional controllers and flat out removed from modern fighting games. Software solutions should be enough for people using B0XXes and traditional controllers.
The wall jump fix is interesting, but the shield drop change is bullshit. If increasing the shield drop range from the community standard gives an extra advantage to boxes, the solution isnt to also give that advantage to controllers. Its to not use the "fix" the created the advantage
Increasing the shield drop doesn't help the boxx, it helps controllers.
Nah nerf Samus
Over time I am slowly VERY SLOWLY starting to trust hax isn't doing this for selfish reasons. I still think its a bad idea that a controller manufacturer has control over what version of a game we could be playing on. But I also lean more towards the purist side of things aka I want stadium unfrozen also leave shyguys and whispy alone. But the ADT shield thing has screwed me on multiple occasions, at least I think it has.
why would making the gcc better benefit Hax, rn the Boxx has benefits over the gcc he's trying to even out.
afaik, it's fine if there's logic to back everything he says up, and the code is there for anyone to look at.
@@gjisahappytoad9408 a lot of people want box banned/nerfed for being better than gcc, if he buffs gcc then the boxx's number 1 risk disappears
@@gjisahappytoad9408 because the negative scenario for Hax is that boxes get banned on majors, he is interested on bringing parity to these 2 option, and the option of nerfing the boxx isn't going to solve the issue (other boxes and outdated/modified boxxes) nor it's what Hax would like for his invention I would guess (making a purposefully bad controller for the sake of parity). I'm in favor of legalizing the box and eventually would like to get one due to hand health issues, but is naive to say that 1.03 is a purely altruistic endeavor.
hacks money be like "guys this is the final version of 1.03 you can trust me"
also why did you ban me from your discord server like what?
It's painfully obvious this guy is just super passionate (read:autistic) about this game. If he's just a grifter, well, he sure picked a weird grift of fixing minor things he perceives as bugs in a game very few people give a fuck about anymore and selling said fixed versions on a memory card lmfao. What a scheme! I bet this guy is *drowning* in Funko Pops!
bro there's 0 chance you've done this much work with hardware and been in the scene this long and your mic is this bad
Donate a mic to him then.
@@heterodoxagnostic8070 if he'll use it i've got extra to send
The mic quality is so bad it's actually painful to listen to.
You suggested shield drop fox causes a large zone where tilt shield spot dodge can fail due to polling
IMO this is much worse than ucfs fix.
Ultimately I think you have to accept that an arbitrary decision here is totally fine because the overlapping inputs are a design “flaw” that you just have to work around with non ideal solutions.
All values are ultimately arbitrary, why is the spot dodge line where it is anyway, it’s arbitrary, and that’s not inherently a bad thing.
First.
Damn you’re quick
Why not just align polling with the framerate? It's pretty lame to get rid of one frame windows, makes the game easier.
Polling is aligned with the framerate, that's not the issue in question. Polling errors are problems created when the analog stick is polled while traveling between two desired points, resulting in an unintended action. This occurrence is effectively random because there's no way for a human to know the exact moment that their controller is going to be polled.
@@felixronkainen8880 so make it poll every frame on the frame
@@TylerClibbon I'm not sure what you mean by "on the frame". A frame is 1/60 of a second, but the actual moment that the poll occurs is much shorter than that.
This creates a problem because that moment will sometimes occur mid-way through doing an action, rather than before and after.
@@felixronkainen8880 Yup I get that, so make it line up with the gameplay frame rate like as a multiple of 2 so there can be no more excuses. Taking one frame timings out of the game makes it easier and lamer and is cringe.
Actually that gives me an interesting idea, we should actually reduce the polling rate to one per frame so nobody can make these excuses anymore.
Disagreements are arbitrary..... What objectively works best for everyone should be the focus. 💯📈🤌
