Sometimes obvious things aren’t so obvious - captain obvious 1887
I’m a beginner and tbh nothing is obvious in this situation😂 so these types of videos are 100000% helpful
I wish someone woulda explained this in simple terms to me when I was learning bending. Like you said, sounds easy but can give people more stress than they think.
If you want i can try to help you
@@guitarginger6742AWHHHH💚 bro that’s fricken heart warming
I taught myself to bend back in the late 60's/early 70's, when there was no You Tube, sheet music was written for piano, and live bands on TV were not filmed close enough to see how it was done. My solution for Mistake No 3, catching other strings, was to bend in the opposite direction, which severely limits which strings you can bend, basically just the G. Now, I'm an old dog trying to learn a new trick. And this is the first time I've seen anyone even acknowledge the problem.
This is exactly what i have needed
i started bending 9 years ago , now my guitar started to moan
So when's the viola coming?
so when's the mandolin coming?
Make a video of it 😭😂
Can you talk about more about double stops bends? Please, great channel bro
Wonder how many times Brandon heard the "just leave" from his multiple step dads that it still resonates in his mind.
Love this guy
THANKS BRANDON! ily
Out of tune bends are fucking awesome
There's tons of notes in between the notes [bong rip]
I like your vibe! May be too dense for some new geetar players, but for intermediate to advanced ones it is a good lesson lol 😂
Number 3 is actually amazing advice!
can you make a video dedicated to vibrato??? would seriously help me out
Every Friends Fan: PIVOT!
I saw you many times bending exactly the way you are saying we are not supposed to.
Thought for a second you were playing the stairway outro at the end pheww. Gave me a heart attack. I just bought my first guitar, watched a few channels and i have a few favorites but honestly man you are always super helpful (especially since i had 2 of these problems) and that deserves a sub.
Thx this helped
Thank you good sir, quality content as always
If davie 504 loved guitar instead of bass
Edit: thanks for 31 likes! Lets gooooo💙
EPIC
thanks bro this helps alot
yes
Bro the one finger bends looks like the fingers are being possessed by a demon 😂
this is helpful
Thank you!!!!
Thank you, I started recently and tbh if I bent the higher strings a lot I felt like it wasn’t good for the guitar but seeing how you’re supposed to makes me more confident so thanks.👍
This video literally came at the just absolutely perfect time thank you!
Can you make a short on that final exercise please
Thank you very much, I jumó into electric guitar a few months ago an this is vero helpful😁🔥🔥
classic bend shape on the high E and B of 12-15(bend) or a 14 fret bend on the G and a stationary 12th fret on the B, that shape is ubiquitous and an easy way to get a full sounding bend
I don’t agree with the thumb wrapped around, it’s not in that position all the time so you want to practice with and without the thumb too, be prepared for it
Great tips
sometimes i dont bend fully to the note i wanted because i'm afraid of snaping my strings
let me guess... you also don't use amp on a electric guitar because it increases your electricity consumption?
It's a risk that's inherent to this activity. Just try it.... and keeo spare strings in your bag
You can buy packs of just E strings it’s amazing
You need to make sure your saddles aren’t sharp or rough. I haven’t broken a string in years.
the strings are meant to let you sound as good as possible, so intentionally sounding worse so they last longer sorta misses the point doesnt it. take care of your strings, but dont let that get in the way of your playing!!! dont be afraid to bend all the way up where you want to, even if the strings do snap its not the end of the world
-maybe dont do a 3 tone bend on the high e string tho-
This is the exact this i was doing wrong
Your videos a very informative
I've found out that using the "blues guru bend" needs you to pivot your wrist beforehand(no pun intended 😉)
And that limits other fingers from dancing around the fretboard
I prefer keeping my hand straight most times and bend using the muscle in my fingers
The wrist is useful if you have ladyfingers and use the ring finger to play a note 4 frets apart from the index finger
Before arguing with me note that i used to use the wrist pivot technique back when i only played the pentatonic scale and was taught by the usual blues background instructors then when i began with the most basic Guthrie Govan and greg howe stuff i learnt using finger strength is better
Also, watch ALOT of great guitarists doing solos that you know, like actual watching them (or someone else) play it on a video. You’ll get great insights just by watching the greats 👍
Also, does anyone's guitar strings get lodged into their calluses and it makes it easy to maneuver the string when you bend it? Is it normal?
You can actually use “out-of-tune” bends if you do it correctly, for instance just slightly bending the minor third (but not all the way to the major third). And technically vibrato is also bending out of tune
the glorious neutral third!!

Bro is Pro
Bro only owns a telecaster
You are right.
damn bro i was guilty of 3 out of the 4 things in this vid. Guess I have some work to do lol
good luck! keep working cuz the result will come :D
i wish i've seen this when i first started playing the guitar
My issue is whenever I bend with my finger tips my fingers slide underneath the other strings. Help!
Me too! I use my tips as much as I possibly can but I still end up catching a string, going under them or mysteriously ringing them out. Grrr
Last bend sounded like sober - TOOL
Nice Tele!
One thing I like to do is hitting two or more different notes chromatically in succession with a single bend, specially when playing with a different string gauge than I'm used to. That way I can get the feeling on how much strength I need to put to reach the pitches I want to.
Brandon has nice hands
Download a pitch monitor on your phone so you can know how off your bend was. and remember bending to the correct note or pitch comes solely from your ears so practicing your relative pitch really helps.
That’s me now
I'm trying hard, but bending lower E at 1st fret a step and a ½ totally sucks. Especially with .010s 😩
I always overbend live 😢
One loose cigarette
I have this kind of problem when bending the high e string. It always breaks when I bend it one whole step in fret 19.
If I keep catching these strings, these strings are gonna catch these hands😭
The lower 3 strings hurt my fingers tho I'm in pain from it
And remember kids, you don't always have to bend 'up'. I commonly bend the G string down, whihc gives a ishton of mobility and width.
Is it even possible to go ur entire tenure of guitar playing without seeing someone who makes u wanna quit
How to make strings smooth specialy for bending any tips sir?
My bends note wont sustain… why would that be??? Besides that I might be suck at it???😅😅😅
How do you use multiple fingers when bending while keeping the same note fretted?
I tried .012 strings on Acoustic and my fingers got destroyed
I thought he was gonna talk about water bending fire bender earth bending and air bending ;-;
literally bend however you want
Question: I struggle with pressing too hard into bends, basically scrapping it on the fretboard, when I don't do that playing. how do I fix this?
Just four? 🤭🫣
I need a squeel tutorial.
no rules bro
I had to learn via solo that bending and trills are not the same. Yeah yeah yeah soRrY
Age reveal? Bro your getting up there, close to that hill 😂❤
How do you bend with 3 fingers without stopping the sound completely?
On the mistake number 3 i can hear that as you release with the “correct technique” the upper string sounds open. Is there any way to correct this?
I've never bent with multiple fingers how do I do that?
How to get in tune bends bruv?
how do you do double stop bends
What does “bending out of tune” mean??
5th mistake - cigarettes
I like to bend my thing and rub along it!😂😅 The neck and strings, of course! What do think I was saying!?!😮
When I bend several Times, my fingers Hurt, specially the middle part. What could I be doing wrong?
Kid named finger:
What type of strings or those
I bend strings while I smoke cigarettes
Don't bend with moisturized fingers lest you want to get flayed like i was
Do you HAVE to put your thumb over the neck?
Which pedal?
Why pivot? My fingers have more strength bending strings than the wrist and the wrist strains easier when even attempting a bend in a pivoted position, your fingers arent straight and it could damage your finger joints and tendons. Or maybe its my skill issue cuz im using flatwounds but even the unwound strings seem impossible to bend past a halfstep unless I bend my fingers.
In essence what im saying is it feels like finger bending is way easier but I dont understand how to pivot without getting some sort of wrist injury.
Statement number 1 = watch country players
Statement number 2 = Albert King and his Vibrato, and Vibrato in general. Not bending, that's not musical. It's a voice that rises and isn't static. Also check out Guthrie's observation on micro tonal bends in Blues as well as Jazz and Indian music.
Statement number 3 = shredders, particularly from the 80's as well as session musicians use a flat index to mute as many strings as possible outside the note played with the fretting hand.
Statement 4, there's no such thing as a bad note, just how you own it. Music comes alive when tension is present. The most tense note is rocks favourite, that devil note... b5
There is a problem with my pinky , I just can't use it while I am play the guitar 😢
Nah, if SRV can bend the G string with one finger, so can I.
His hands broke on tour because of techniques like that, and he had to get all of his guitars restrung at a lower gauge because of tendonitis,
Look after your hands!
😂
Can I bend with my thumbs?
While sitting?
On Wednesday?
“Just leave!”is incorrect, but “jus get outta here!” Tho…
I thought Brendon would help me become a better Avatar. :v
Meanwhile me who has been playing guitar for 5 years and can't even bend
HOW IS THAT POSSIBLE. It's literally the first thing I learned, even before a single chord. The surprising thing is that I never really struggled with bending in tune.
@@Intelligent_investor Chalk it up to me just playing for fun instead of trying to be a virtuoso. I can bend, but it never sounds that good or my string ends up going out of tune.
@@bigbrother3465 I would stop finding playing fun after a while with no progress, bends are essential. I'm not sure I can think of a single song without bends, so what music do you play?
@@Intelligent_investor Well, it's gonna be obvious but i play punk rock/pop punk most of the times. I do play some indie and alt rock stuff like The Strokes or Interpol. Got some Metallica as well but only rythm sections. My setup is quite crappy so there are certain sounds that can't get right, which has made me feel a little bored these last few years. It's fun when i get to play with my bandmates tho. I'm no rookie, but i don't consider myself a very good musician.
@@bigbrother3465 Well, that makes sense. What sounds do you struggle with? Maybe try a guitar interface, you can have a Plexi, Tweed, Wah, Compresor or literally anything you can imagine right there on your laptop.
Clapton somehow manages to make bendings with just one finger lol
Fine I'm leaving then! Until next time! 😂
Your very good but can you play 17th century chicken pickin? Proof us
These are beginner issues not intermediate as a beginner I’ve worked on most of these habits
00:00
the double stop bend doesn't work with Floyd roses so if you have one don't do that.
