it's not just the King , but his son, the crownprins, and his granddaughter are great, too. The granddauther's speach at her 18.birthday was great.
King Harald is a VERY warmhearted person, easily relating to the difficulties in other persons' lives, no matter who they are. This speech and his speech/actions/behaviour in relation to Utøya show that. He also has the most adorable sense of humour. On his latest state visit to Denmark, his weak legs made him stumble and fall on his knees a few steps from being welcomed by Queen Margrethe. They share a lifelong very close friendship. On his feet again he said to her "That was to show my respect and admiration for you." There are several forms of intelligence - human interaction with empathy and humour is the highest form.
The attack they mentioned was about the terror attack a Norwegian right wing extremist did. He killed 77 people. 8 people died from a selfmade bomb outside the goverment building, then he gunned down 69 people on a small island. Most of them were teenagers. I saw you did a reaction to Aurora. Her first boyfriend was killed that day on the island. Her song "Litte Boy In The Grass" is about the massacre.
I don't think this speech changed much in Norway, but it was a very good reminder of what all humans should aim for. He probably got some backlash for it, as the king of Norway is not supposed to express a political point of view. I, on the other hand, don't think it's political, it's just being human. If you politicize everything, nothing is safe to talk about anymore, not even that which is truly important.
Thank you Paul for sharing the Kings Speech of Norway. I’m an Angelina fan and this reminded me that she sang for the King and was declared a national treasure by the government! I know she and her family are full of love for the human race and Angelina always shows love and humanity. The Norway day celebrations recognizing youth and children reminded me of Angelina’s music video with her school friends.
You made an interesting comment that smart people study nature and the human condition in this way. Certainly that was true of Thoreau the great American philosopher.

The speech changed nothing. Norwegian society is pretty equal, but of course there is still some hate. But the king isn’t supposed to comment on politics, so him taking the side of equality and solidarity, was the controversial part. The attack he mentions is the 2011 right wing extremist terrorist attack on Oslo and Utøya that killed 79 people, most of them teenagers. The King player a major part in the aftermath of these attacks, ie in another speech, where he openly cried on TV.
We always had this type of equity but there is people that dosnt agree, as one of the persons speaking said. But people like that you will find everywhere. So he is kind of just making us remember and speaking about it out loud.
I forgot to say that in this video they ask people how the kings speech effected them. So you can see how much he effect us with his kind and wise words❤. I think we are very lucky not many people with power talk like that!😅
And yes, we don't have any military showoff. And I am so happy for it!!!! I love our national day, as a kid It was the best day every. Everything is about the children! Our future is the important thing and that is our kids!
It is a 100% safe to come here and most of us don't have any problem with foreigners! We are a very proud country. That comes from out union with Denmark and Sweden, when we finally got to be our own country we had to make a language and we built us up. We really love out country. It is sooo safe.
If you come to norway you might get a culture shock many people react to that we can just walk across the street and not get run over because the cars stop and don't drive like idiots. And that for us is so normal it is weired to think otherwise. We also can leave our child out in the trolley outside a cafe and be totally safe. Because we trust eachother that much! We are a really good country. It will never be perfect because it is always someone that disagree in some ways because we all are different. Our political system is a bit off but I am never going to complain because other countries have it SO MUCH WORSE and I get crazy when people in this privileged country don't appreciate the most important things and only look at the bad things because, everything and also people have bad sides of them. It's about what to fight for, and what to not fight for. But all in all we are a really really good country and I can't imagine living anywhere else!
BUT I agree fighting for important things in our country even tho we are a very very good and safe country! It's important and that's how we stay a good country😊
Important context. The King of Norway should be as non-political as possible, but he does have veto power until the next election. So his primary job is to protect us from the government. At the time of this speech, one of the parties in government wanted to ban hijab and other non-Christian symbols. That party is in general particularly hostile to Muslims, but immigration in general and I don't think they're very enthusiastic about homosexuals either. So how I interpreted this speech was as a very gentle reminder from the King that he is not irrelevant. If he had to veto a proposed law designed to discriminate against his poeople, then it would be the first time since the King vetoed the proposal to surrender to Nazi-Germany and I think that would've been a death blow to the Progressive party. So I see this as a very gentle, subtle, respectful and loving way to use power. We are all Norwegians and will not be discriminated against by our own country. The Progressives did tone down their rhetoric dramatically after this, so whether intended or not, it did serve the purpose that I read into it. And I happen to believe that it wasn't by accident. That's why I love this speech so much, because the King doesn't normally speak this way, but it really was necessary at the time.
What a lovely invitation! I love that he talks about things that he shouldnt have done. But it shows he is a people's person. My day starts well with a lot of hope because of this!
Norwegian king ,queen ,Prince and princess are really great and down to earth people. Pricess Ingrid Alexandra lived in a small apartment and had summerjob serving at a restaurant 😅 kinda crazy imo
This speach was given as a welcome to a yard party the king and queen had. They had invited 1500 people from all over Norway. It was people they had visited when they travel around in Norway to interact with the norwegians. Gov was there too.
Norway is one of the most equal countries in the world, and all though that's a geat thought (for a norwegian), I see it as somewhat demotivating there is nothing better than this, and as a huge responsibility to do even better. If anything, it is only proof of how young humanity is.
I like the reactions to the songs videos, but I'm glad you took a break from them to see other topics
The King of Norway is comanded by the goverment what to say in his speech, this is not what he personally belives.
