    I think the South Koreans are kicking the butts of the Japanese in giving the public a quality product. I have a 2006 Hyundai Sonata that is still running strong and has held up incredibly well. In fact it surprises people when I tell them it is a ten year old car. Everything still works, upholstery is still like new and shocks and struts are still fine for a car that sees a lot of bad Louisiana road surfaces. Even the paint has held up well considering the car never sees a garage. My car is still rust free. I remember my first car a Chevy Vega that was rusting around the windows when it was 3 years old. Cars have come a long way since 1973.

    Makes me laugh how people are fooled by badges just because one badge has been in North America longer than the other. I have owned GM Ford Chrysler Honda BMW Alfa Romeo VW and now a Hyundai Genesis sedan and just love this new Genesis G80 luxury car. It's beautiful to look at, drives fantastic and been dead reliable since new. I own Korean products and trust their quality products as also own LG, Samsung products.

    I had 3 Hondas, including Civic 2002, Accord 2005 EX V6, Acura TLS 2006... But I had 3 Transmission Problems and after TLS, I never purchased Honda Again... And I have 3 Kia.. 2015 Optima Hybrid EX, with TECH $33K, Sorento 2016 SXL $42K, Kia Soul 2016 $15K.. All of them are better than HONDAs... Period...Honda is cheaper inside .. and Engine problems are my main problems with Honda suppose to be solid.. but it didn't worked for me..

    Just got our 2017 SXL with a few miles...Still discovering all the "Bell and Whistles" we have on this premium feeling Optima! (Our third!) Quick run to the grocer revealed that we have Auto high beams with bending LED's, so lets just say super bright and easy! Nappa leather is softer and cushier than the 2012 EX we're still driving. Way excited!! Let's road trip!!

    I mean Kia has gone a long way. Optimas few years ago were cars that made you feel pitty that someone had to drive them. However, this has become a car to look for. In my opnion, Optima and Sonata have got it all right, and they are better looking, more exciting, and give you much better value for the money than all the rest.

  • @elvisdemneri

    Why are you comparing these two models? An Accord sport that you seem to keep knocking trying to compare it to a fully loaded KIA. The accord Touring model would be far better comparison. For what you get on that accord sport, looks, fuel and quality. Hard to compare with similar cars in that price range

    • @elvisdemneri
      @elvisdemneri 8 років тому +2

      Yes i agree, but usually higher trim level. All the sport model is, is an LX Model with upgraded wheels, dual exhaust, rocker moldings, trunk lid deck spoiler and interior hybrid leather/cloth seats.

    • @v60polestar88
      @v60polestar88 8 років тому +3

      +Elvis Demneri Maybe higher trim levels on Hondas, but most econboxs have push start standard. Even base Altima has push start. Hondas have always been cheap with the options, that's what left the door open for the Koreans to steal sells away!! Why it start with the EX model as the bases for the sport.

    Honda used to be the car to get in this car segment 10 years ago but not anymore in 2017. Kia Optima has came a long way and actually I love this car. I've been a long time Honda owner since my high school years but for the first time in my life, I am going to buy this Optima SXL model and ditch my 2012 Accord. Makes perfect sense to buy this car with outstanding warranty and all the features. Thanks for the video for making right decision.

    How can you compare the Honda Accord Sport with a higher level Optima? The Accord Sport is the second trim level, one up from the base so obviously it will be completely different. The Touring Model is more comparable to this Optima, which puts out 278 HP with its V6, 19 inch alloys, LED Headlights and the entire Honda Sensing and Interior Tech Package. Now tell me, does this seem like a fair comparison?

    Optimas are surprisingly roomy cars. They have that small Corolla look on the outside, but the roominess of an Accord or Camry on the inside. So, if you want a car you can zip through traffic in, because of it's smaller size, but at the same time a car where you can stretch your legs out in, the Optima is the better choice.

  • @ronnymb67
    @ronnymb67 8 років тому +1

    No 2.0T Optima's were around when I was looking. No 2016 Sonata 2.0T either. In March, I got a 2015 Sonata Sport 2.0T Limited. Only things it's missing from the 2016 Optima SX-L IS: Crash mitigation (2015 has Alert. 2016 has mitigation), surround camera and swivel headlights. Since it was a 2015, I got all sorts of incentives and got it out the door for $27,200. The Accord as spec'd in this video is $26,200 and Honda doesn't deal in the same manner. So I give up a few mpg and I'm ok with that. Retired mechanic and I do not trust a CVT trans built by anyone, let alone hate the driving experience. I looked at a loaded V6 Accord but the seats didn't work for me as well as the dealer's arrogance to give me a reasonable deal.. The Sonata and Optima seats are perfect - I'm 6ft2 and 200 pounds. This makes our third Hyundai/Kia product since our 2008 trouble-free Sonata - traded with 120,000 miles for a 2012 Kia that currently has 82,000 trouble-free miles as well. Resale value isn't really of any concern to me because with the exception of trading the 2008 Sonata for the Forte SX - my other half likes smaller cars and loves the 5 door utility - we keep our cars for hundreds of thousands of miles. BTW, the 2008 Sonata is at 250,000 miles and going in the current owner's hands.

    Dave I love your car reviews but this one is absolutely crazy, an accord touring would’ve been a fair comparison to a fully loaded Kia, but also I would never trade a Honda for a Kia, the resale value of an accord and reliability alone beats an Kia any day

      Your not the only one. Kia's are junk and all of them. The pitch is to get you to buy a car with a 100k warranty, and people not understanding the difference between powertrain and bumper to bumper which ends around 36k, and isn't transferable. The old hook and lie tactic to buy junk. I'll stick with my Camry. My Chevy impala gave me no issues either except for a tire pressure sensor.

    Hondas' long term reliability and high resale value make the Accord the winner. KIA and Hyundai have some of the worst resale value. That 36k Optima will be worth 18 to 20k in a couple of years while a fully loaded 2 yr old a Accord touring will still push upwards of 25k.

    • @Marlon_J
      @Marlon_J 8 років тому +3

      long term reliability of Kia and Hyundais are very good right now. The Honda can only beat them in resale value right now.

    • @manualtrans257
      @manualtrans257 8 років тому

      Not entirely true. I can find examples of the Accord with over 250,000 or more miles (Gen 7, 7.5, and 8's) Hyundai/Kia still needs to prove they can do that.

    • @Marlon_J
      @Marlon_J 8 років тому +4

      +manualtrans257 The reason for that is because Honda has been a very reliable and established car brand since the 80's and 90's. Hyundai/Kia only got to that level by the mid 2000's when they started investing heavily to improve reliability and quality. They opened up plants in Alabama and Georgia.They hired a lot of people from top car makers, like the designer they got from Audi. They started building their own engine at the Alabama plant in the mid to late 2000's. Most their cars from this tern around era have been rock solid. You need only to go by the Hyundai forums you'll hear a lot of stories of people with cars from this run-around era with well over 250k miles and still running a lot of original parts.

    Hello Dave, you are comparing a full loaded Kia with a mid level trim Honda. A good apples to apples comparison would be the Honda touring trim with this Kia. Then i think many people if not most of them would say hello to the Honda. Also in terms of acceleration, braking, practicality, handling, fuel economy, etc its hard to beat a Honda at this price range. I guess thats why more than 300k of them are sold every single year just in the US.

The Sport has just enough of what I need and I do not need all the tech gadgets, also. But not sure about the 19" wheels and the rough ride with those that some complaint about on the Sport and I sure wish it had a better stereo system. Anyhow, still a car I am considering.

    Not close for a comparison. I have an Accord EX-L V6 and I'd never buy another Honda. Interior is cheap, lots of hard plastics. Exterior is shoddy. The ride quality isn't good and it has huge amounts of road noise. I was very impressed with the Optima when I drove it. It should be on everyone's list. Also push button start is just a fad.

      willis jordan that's doesn't happen often. In fact it almost never does. And if so, it has an actual key within the fob. Keyless is the best. You can never lock the key in the car, you can leave the car running...lock it...and have the key on you(this is good when it's winter and you want the car to be warm when you get back or cool in the summer when you get back)

    Honestly Honda’s are decent but they charge way too much from my experience. So I went and bought a Kia instead. The Forte I own has more to offer and the Civic I test drove they wanted $4000 more then Kia asked for and got more on the Kia for my money then the Civic. Sorry Honda but you charge way too much so I’m in the Kia Family in continuation. Oh and I know your vehicles you are reviewing are the Accord and Optima plus I know the cars I mentioned are off topic but I needed to add. Thanks.

      SourStrawberrys dude the car is a very basic car. dave even said it, he didn't have much to say about the car. why can't people realize that car companies like nissan and honda are only selling their names and reputation now because they dont offer much and they want to buy their top trim to get any comfort amenities and start admitting that new comers have caught up and are passing these companies. the new comers offer great style, luxury amenities for cheaper and on lower trims. things like panoramic roof etc. modern and not the classic three box architecture and are just as reliable because the tech and knowledge is there for everyone to access.

    This really isn’t a fair comparison, It would be fair if you had the $36,000 accord, however the Kia optima is actually more reliable and would be my pick because it has a panoramic sunroof, better infotainment, but Honda sensing works really well also does Kia optima’s lane assist so in the driver assistance it’s a tossup. Honda CVT’s Have proven not to be reliable even if the engines are, plus the Kia has a better warranty and is doing much better than Honda in JD power, right up there with Lexus, Toyota, and Porsche

    Can't believe the sport has less hp than the stock optima. I thought at least 200+ maybe 220-240ish. Still though honda is proven reliable.
    I would assume all autos are now and i hope my optima has the reliability of toyo,honda and nissan..
    Oh i just looked at the touring accord and thats closer to the sx. I thought the sport would have more but the touring is where its at.
    Soo top model v top model ill go with honda, more hp and proven track record reliability. And according to google about 5k more. Msrp 29,9 vs 34,4 so close. And nobody in their right mind pays msrp.

    that Honda Accord would hold more value than a Kia Optima any day I remember I used to own a Kia Optima when getting in an accident what was that one thing they told you it's better to get rid of the car then to fix it it cost more to fix a vehicle versus the value of the vehicle and the loss that you take you always be upside down in value on a Kia
