I would say that this would be more of a heavy longsword/war sword, than a bastard really, looks solid though, such a wide blade and PoB should make it a nice cutter indeed, even if not a very nimble one. Good for in-plate fights (even though not really tapered for gaps ), not so much as a blossfechten sidearm.
Too big for a bastard sword...more a two handed sword...bastard sword would have a slightly shorter grip, and a shorter, almost one hander length blade...
It felt fine one handed to me; but I still ended up getting the Irish hand-and-a-half sword from Windlass instead. I should've gotten this one when I had the chance. I am a very large person, as well, though.
Indeed. Two-Handed without a doubt. And beyond Longsword for certain. 50" total lenght, with an almost 39" blade. This being said, it's a 1.65 Kg sword, not far at all from the usual Longsword weight of 1.5 kg (difference is 5.3oz). If we consider the almost 5" PoB, then I gotta admit it must have some very interesting handling characteristics. And as of Nov, 8th, 2019, there's a special going on in KoA and this one's down to $190 - seriously tempted. Cheers!
SeemsLogical but there’s a slight problem because he’s not quite proficient with larger weapons so the tests are somewhat unreliable. Ps I’m not trying to make fun of him I love how he does his reviews it’s just I can’t really trust some tests because of his particular training with smaller weapons.
Yeah, his Kali training does make him more adept at short swords and similar blades. But you're going to get that with anyone. For someone who isn't proficient with a Yari, Longsword, Dane axe or any non-Filipino weapons I think he still does a good enough job.
SeemsLogical yeah he does a great job. All I’m saying is with larger weapons the tests would be slightly more fair to the weapon if he got some help from somebody more proficient with larger weapons
Yeah that’s still pretty good balance. That balance favors cuts a bit but it definitely looks like it has a nice sharp point to thrust with too. Usual Longswords/Bastard Swords have a POB of about 3 to 4 inches from the guard for a more well rounded sword with some slightly favoring thrusts. Not too much closer to the guard than what this sword’s POB is. And some that are more specialized for cutting are even a little more blade heavy than this sword in the video.
Nice, i definetely have eyes on this one to be my first sword ever. Thanks for showing!
Looks exactly like the bastard sword from the dark souls series
This antiqued bastard sword is #2 on my wishlist of swords I want for my collection. It is, quite frankly, one I want just for the look of it. :P
Looks like the Bastard Sword from dark souls. The grip, the pommel, the guard, and the blade look like it.

That is not a Bastard Sword, that's a long sword

Mozoto Longsword and Bastard Sword are pretty interchangeable terms. The size range of Longswords/Bastard Swords are pretty varied
I've had my eye on that sword for a while. Thanks for the teaser, guys.
Right!?
Looks like Dark Souls
Indeed. The Bastard Sword in dark souls looks almost exactly like this.
Dark souls one has a longer handle, that's the ONLY difference lol
You should do more Helmet reviews, like the European sallet or one of the Pig Faced Bascinet
That would be a nice sword to have.
The length/heft of that thing I would say it's a straight up longsword. Bastard swords are barely over two pounds with shorter grips.
Did they improve it from the previous version?
What specs? You never gave any. Neither does the website . What blade hardness? W h at blade material?

Yeah Hanwei definitely didn't name it correctly

Nothing to do with this specific video but I'd love to see more chinese swords (Ming or Qin dynasty), it's pretty rare... I don't know why ...
You guys should just give swords to Skallagrim to review.
But I like how Tom makes these reviews.

Best of both worlds; how about we get Tom's review, and they send it to Skall for his review too! More information is NEVER a bad thing. ^.^
Looks like carbon steel.
"PoB is 4 7/8". Relatively close to the guard..."
LOLOLOLOLOL nooooo that's not. Not for a longsword. That's montante PoB.
What? You're probably confusing longswords for feders, a longsword specialized for cutting will have a PoB well above 4"
((does some digging)) Point taken. 5" PoB is still the upper echelons as far as longswords are concerned (the Albion Duke having a 5.75" PoB)
