Thanks Mike. I do actually use a stainless steel spatula on all my egg dishes fried, scrambled etc. No problems with the seasoning at all.

I'll definitely have to get me a metal spatula. I can see that a thin one will make sliding under so much easier. As for now, I still use a plastic one. Since I've always used those kinds, I know one has to be quick and never linger on the pan or raise the temperature of the plastic too high, but I won't have to worry about that when I get a metal spatula.
Great question and very helpful response for new cast iron disciples. Thanks.

Thank you for super informative videos.
Can you make a video about different type of coatings that is used for cast iron cookware and how to season/treat/maintain them?
We have recently bought a few pots (ovens) and pans (skillets) that seem like traditional cast iron but I think they are enameled cast iron. It's hard to tell exactly which one they are since the interior is almost black and rough like traditional ones (I've seen online), but somewhat not as black and not as rough, it seems! They have somewhat grey-ish color on the outside, which I think is enamel. But other than that, they're not in obvious color and/or smoothness to rule the as enameled.

@@tallcedars2310 I just looked a little more on Ebay. There are many in the $10 range but, very few that I like. I have a vintage Russell spatula in the basement I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy, thick metal and no flex at all. I think they're out there, probably in estates and a lot get thrown away. I used to shop and buy them when I saw them, usually for $1 but, I don't shop much anymore.

yes i agree, as long as you do a maintenance oil or coat after each cook in the cast iron, it should be fine with the metal items

Whew! I was worried! I counted mine and got to unlucky 7 but, I found one more so, at least 8. I would have bet they were mostly Ekco but, only see Ekco on 4 of them. They're all old and looking online, maybe valuable. I have noticed I never see a brand new one I like. Maybe they don't make good ones anymore.

@@MrCastIron I have heard that Rada makes good stuff, people like their knives. I'm stuck in most of my old ways, old stuff. I did switch from Ekco paring knives to Victorinox a few decades ago. My egg turners I won't choose one shape as my favorite, why I have 8, but I like just the right amount of flex and the new ones I've seen are stiff. I'm not suggesting this but, you could use a hammer and a chisel on that cast iron skillet and it will still be here
for generations after you've left this world. And when it comes to spatula's, a good, flexible, stainless steel one
should last as long as the skillet. With Zero issues from BPA's, in plastics.
