My mom would scrub her cast iron skillets with soap and water, dry them off, wipe them with a lite coat of bacon grease, wipe that down and they were ready for another use on the wood burning stoves. That was way back in the 60s and used them up to the 2000s. The old school people could cook up some food with their kitchen skills and better than the technology in cooking out today.

I doubt the dislikes are due to the colour of AB’s skin… I would wager that it’s due to the controversial world of cast iron care. Some people say don’t use dish soap, some do. Some say don’t use olive oil, some say don’t use paper towel, it goes on and on…
Whatever works for you and if you’re happy with the results that’s all that matters

I'm 62 and still use the first one I bought 40 years ago at a flea market. I do all my cooking in either Cast Iron, Enameled Cast Iron, or a Carbon Steel Wok. I think I have 15 pieces of Cast Iron. Fry potatoes and deep fry French fries when you start cooking and it helps build up seasoning. Also bake cornbread or brownies in them. It helps them become more nonstick. Then it will cook meat without it sticking and make cleaning easier.

Great video. After oiling I use Scott blue shop paper towels to wipe off oil. The towels are great for absorbing the oil and not leaving lint after wiping like white paper towels will do. I also put a large baking sheet pan on the bottom of the oven to catch oil drips.

Don’t buy Lodge cast iron, they’re no good. Get a really old one at tag sales or thrift shops.

Great video. I already knew much of this stuff, but didn't understand to repeat the process 4 times. That's a game changer. Thanks.

I've had a skillet in my closet for about 10 years and was always too intimidated to season it. We bought a Blackstone Griddle this summer and we love it then I remembered I had the skillet. I will be seasoning it tomorrow. Food is just so much better in the cast iron. I see a large purchase of pans in my future. I loved your video. Thank You for making it so easy. Stay well and God Bless

Thank you for making this video. You’ve explained this process much better than anyone else I have seen. This video is a gem. I have one question. How often should I season my cast iron pans? Again, thank you for making this video.

Thank you for this! I recently got a new cast iron skillet, and my daughter put it in the dishwasher to clean it before using. 😳😩🤦🏽‍♀️ It's good now. She knows it needed some oil, so they're both doing well! 😂

I reset my cast iron from this video. I now clean the pan with kosher salt and water with only a sponge. I then heat it in the burner to dry it and put a fresh layer of crisco on the hot metal. No food is sticking and I don't need to heat it in the oven. Do this every time you cook.
    Thanks, AB!

Thank you AB...for this video. Just ordered my first cast-iron from Amazon should be here in a couple days, the description said it was preseasoned but... I have heard this needs to be done. Got to get me some Crisco! Can't wait to try some of your cast iron recipes when I get my new Skillet. Keep cooking as always! Love you much

Amazing! I’ve thrown out a few cast iron skillets because they rust on me and I never knew you would revive them after rusting because, you know, rust = bad. You’ve inspired me to ask my husband for a few cast iron skillets for Christmas! This is super simple and I trust your instruction and judgement!

For future reference- unless there are literal holes in it you can almost always fix a cast iron skillet. Really bad ones require some stuff like electrolysis but theyre almost always restorable

I've had my own cast iron skillet for a couple of years, but never really felt like i got as much use out of it as my nonstick. Recently tho i've been using the cast iron a lot more and i've been having a ton of fun cooking stuff on it. Seasoning always felt like a mysterious chore that everyone had a different opinion on, but I feel a lot more confident after watching your video. thanks!!
