      Build quality on legions has been good for some time now, but I have serious concerns about their manufacturing tolerances. My L5p for example had issue with the keyboard deck being raised at the centre, inconsistent backlighting and slightly crooked hinge fittings. They all worked and felt solid, but the little things matter. Apple is in the opposite camp, they have extremely tight tolerances but atrocious build quality on their laptops. This shouldn't be hard for Lenovo, their Thinkpad line has none of these issues. Honestly if they made legion laptops with the Thinkpad aesthetic I'd buy one tomorrow.

      @@morganvici6543 For instance, the hinges on macbooks are generally engineered to within 1in-lb of tolerance to the magnitude of torque required, so inevitably they fail after a few years. The space between components is generally insufficient, so the signals often cross and components short out. They had a design on the macbook pro a few years ago that blew hot air on the display assembly, causing the glue there to weaken,bulge and eventually the lid would come apart. Constant BGA failures, voltage spikes and so on point to insufficient QA. I can go on. Louis Rossmann covered this pretty well though.

    Fantastic!....but now I'm wondering if I should've waited for this thing to come out before I got the M16! In fairness, the M16 has been a great laptop but this watercooling setup is really interesting. Especially without the external pump/rad. I eagerly await the temp benchmarks on this! I haven't seen any other tech cannels on YT who actually have their hands on one of these yet! Thanks!

    • @Smoke_Weed_Everyday_
      @Smoke_Weed_Everyday_ Рік тому

      This laptop sucks ass. That little loop is worse than a simple copper heatpipe (you can see both cpu and gpu at 80C), so the fact that it costs twice as much as a same specced 7i makes it a complete scam.

    • @MatthewCimone
      @MatthewCimone Рік тому

      @@Chris-lg7rc I've enjoyed it. I have the 4090 config.
      I love the aesthetic of the M16. The design is one of the reasons I bought it. And the CherryMX keyboard is a dream. I feel like the Alienware laptops are scrutinized because of the high CPU temps. But the excellent GPU temps appear to be overlooked. For example, in games my CPU will regularly hit 100C however the GPU hits a high of 73C. And while the CPU hits 100c, it's still pulling 75-90W in games and scores just as high as competitors in Cinebench or 3dMark tests. So it's interesting to see that the Lenovo allows the GPU to hit 84c and then kicks in the liquid cooling that *might* then bring the GPU to temps that the M16 already sustains through regular air cooling.
      Other advantages of the M16 is cost. It was way cheaper than any of the competitors at the time I bought it which is also against the Alienware stereotype. And as of typing this, the M16 is already on sale for $700CDN less than even when I bought it a few months ago.
      So for a unit that will perform well, look great, have fantastic build quality, and is cheaper than competitors while delivering similar performance I think the M16 is a good buy. But if you have extra money to spend, I can see why the Lenovo would be appealing with the Carbon Fiber exterior and Mini LED display (although I'd wait for Dave's full review of it before considering).
      As for the Blade, I'm not sure it's competitive. Yes it's a bit thinner, but ultimately has a similar footprint to other 16" units and for the slightly thinner unit you're paying a huge cost premium and what looks like lower performance than other similar units due to thermal throttling (from the reviews I saw).

    • @MashITTech

      The m16 is still a solid machine plus a lot cheaper with more storage and easier to upgrade ram. That Legion MiniLED is gorgeous though....Buying a laptop is always a nightmare, as there is always something new to try and tempt you 🤣

    • @MashITTech
      @MashITTech  Рік тому +1

    • @midicronica1
      @midicronica1 Рік тому

      @@MD-ky2dt half and half so far. It performs great in terms of raw power but not without its drawbacks. It runs extremely hot and loud. I had undervolt it to get it down to acceptable thermals. Now I’m at about 75-80c while gaming max settings under load. Fan still ramps up and this is with a cooling pad as well. I could adjust the fan curve but I’m more concerned about thermals and I use headphones anyways.
      As I mentioned above the rgb is pretty useless unless you want the constant rainbow. Hopefully a software fix is in the works.
      The display however is amazing, super bright and crisp but there is noticeable dimming as in, if you put your cursor against a black background it’ll grey out. That’s just the nature of mini-led but it doesn’t bother me. People with the 9i have also reported ghosting but I havent noticed as of yet. Going to test it later today.
      Overall, if you can put up with it being a jet engine while gaming it’s great. The out of the box experience was lackluster due to the tweaking I had to do but I’d say I’m generally happy with it. It’s definitely the most aesthetic looking laptop imo and the overall build quality is amazing.
      If you have an appreciation for amazing looking screens on a laptop, I don’t think it gets any better than this as of now but I haven’t seen the Razer Blade 16 in person so I can’t compare it to that. Comparing it to my 34” Alienware QD oled monitor though, the text is beyond crisp and the ppi density is obvious.
      Also I didn’t mention it but the thermals are for the 13980HX, 4090 runs great at around 70-75c under load. No issues there.

    I have the Legion 7i Pro 2023 RTX3080. Almost as good performance with a Time Spy score of 19000 on par with a 2022 RTX3090 desktop. 26000 plus on CB R23 test. Aside from the lacks of Windows Hello, it's a great laptop an, runs relatively cool, a top level 240hz IPS screen, and an excellent heyboard. This looks like a great laptop but very overpriced, no doubt it will get discounted over the next few months. It's quite a premium for the Mini LED screen and some marginal features. An excellent summary review and you're always totally transparent. This is fresh off the press, well done!

      Thank you mate, I do try to be as unbiased as possible! I have the Legion 7 with almost exactly the same specs and will put them head to head but as you stated, the 7's performance is already excellent so I think it really comes down to if those premium features are worth the extra cost to the end user. I can imagine if someone is looking for a Gaming/Content creation laptop then its worth it for the screen and SD card etc, but if just for gaming the & is by far the best option

    One thing I've noticed is that when some people say a keyboard is "crisp," what they mean is "heavy actuation force." It seems like a lot of reviewers love that, but I'm not a fan of keyboards with heavy actuation forces; the Lenovo Thinkpads, for example, are beloved among many people, but I've always found them a tiresome slog for my fingers. I don't need a workout when I type. For me, an Alienware CherryMX is on the outer range of what I can live with in terms of stiff keys. Do you know if this Legion 9 keyboard has a comparable actuation force to the current Lenovo Thinkpad keyboards? Because I don't think I'd like that very much, based on a recent X1 Nano I had.

    • @MashITTech
      @MashITTech  Рік тому +2

    This is a good laptop, but keep in mind, if you spec out the highest config possible on Lenovo's site it only lets you spec out 32GB... that being said i spent 5 grand on this beast, i immediately tried to change out the RAM to 64GB, you have to take the ENTIRE computer apart, its on a invented motherboard, complete disaster just to upgrade memory. The LED's and carbon fiber are nice, but the screen absolutely is NOT 1000 nits, no way in hell, maybe 600 and other reviewers have noticed the same thing.

    • @AkaiSuzume
      @AkaiSuzume Рік тому +1

      @@MashITTech it has no place in a dedicated "gaming" laptop. It's only useful for productivity purposes. Most games don't support the aspect ratio so you end up with black bars and even those that do, end up sacrificing some horizontal information for it. And even if it worked as intended, most games don't have interesting vertical information. That's the whole point of having ultra wide setups. Because horizontal information is often more interesting in games. Even in media consumption, you end up with black bars on an already small screen. There's a good reason that 16:9 is the standard.
