This game is packed full of content, from the story, the alternate missions, the chao garden and the 2 player mode in the SA2 battle port. I have spent over a 100 hours playing this back in the days. It is a gem of a Sonic game.
What I love about getting deep into the chao garden is the main game’s levels are designed to be so effin replayable, they’re a blast to just play over and over and over and get better at, and playing them is how you get chaos drives and animals and rings for the chao garden… so it’s just like the perfect gameplay loop of both game modes feeding into each other. My last playthrough I was hooked on bouncing between perfecting runs of the main levels and raising my chao. Dang, they just don’t make AAA games with such a focus on replayability like they used to.
There are 3 Chao to find in the video! A Neutral Chao, Hero Chao, and a Dark Chao! First one to find them all and comment Chao found gets their comment pinned!
My theory is that G.U.N Wanted to arrest Sonic because they wanted to keep Shadow's existence a secret but the major flaw in that Plan was how were they going to re-capture Shadow when they knew Eggman had released him? (The Police didn't know about Shadow so it makes sense why they thought he was Sonic)
That was kind of the explanation used Sonic X where it was said a rouge group in G.U.N was trying to cover up what happened 50 years ago. While Sonic X isn't canon to the games, it did add a lot of unused scenes from the Adventure games in it's adaptations so it's possible this explanation was intended for the game as well.
@Plumbers_Helper And when Sonic escaped instead of trying to arrest him again they figured it'd be better to let Sonic deal with Shadow given they have no way to recapture the rogue Hedgehog without extensive help
In Shadow's original design he looked a lot more like Sonic, only being a bit of a darker shade of blue and a scar across his eye, so it would make more sense the in-universe characters would confuse the two if they're still going by the initial plot before Shadow's redesign.
My thoughts on a couple of points; Starting with Biolizard; The Biolizard IS reawakened when the Eclipse Cannon activates, so it could have been encapsulated in the ARK and released in tandem with Prof. Robotnik's revenge plot and programmed to return to a place of significance within the ARK to enact the plan itself. And since it was designed to harness Chaos Energy (I think) it is attracted to the imitation Shrine as a result. As for the "Sonic or Shadow" thing; before the initial concepts were shown/etc, I rationalized it as 'everyone thinks its Super Sonic' cuz the two speedy boys have a similar silohuette while in said form. Great vid btw. I enjoyed it.

Quick note about Green Hill being on Earth/Mobius. If we account for the original western Sonic Bible going over the characters, which is a stretch I know. We remember that Sonic was born on Christmas Island, Australia, which is said to be where Green Hill is. I consider it canon, because Australia had the Sega Studios, so that's good enough for me 😂
Good video! I played Sonic Adventure 2 Battle as a kid, but never questioned any of the inconsistencies and oddities you mentioned. I just kind of accepted everything, but, man, the whole Sonic franchise is one big mystery. There are a ton of inconsistencies between games and other media. There’s actually a reason why Knuckles doesn’t just shrink down the Master Emerald and carry it with him at all times: Angel Island needs the Master Emerald to float. Without it, the island would fall into the ocean.
I think everyone mistaking Sonic for Shadow is a holdover from Shadow's earlier designs where he looked a lot similar to Sonic in terms of silhouette. So, why didn't they change the cutscenes amd stuff to reflect this? I have no idea. Shadow's finalized design might have been late into development where the game was too far along that such changes couldn't be made easily without delaying the game significantly. Otherwise, it makes no sense as Sonic doesn't really try to conceal what he looks like at all. So, people, especially a military organization, should know what he looks like and should be aware of Shadow who was contained at a G.U.N. facility. You'd think they would try to confirm or check if Shadow is still contained. Yes, I know this is when Sonic game stories were nonsensical like early Archie Sonic comics. However, it still bugs me that EVERYONE except Rouge and Eggman confuse the two. I am also certain Sonic, Amy, and Shadow can see color. I think Amy mistaking Shadow and then Silver for Sonic is her getting excited seeing a hedgehog in the distance assuming it is Sonic. She even mistakes Werehog Sonic for regular Sonic. I think her mistaking any hedgehog for Sonic was supposed to be a running gag that seems to have died out. Although, we haven't gotten a new hedgehog character or form for Sonic. No, the Forces OC does not count.
Another possibility for how people managed to confused Sonic and Shadow. It was late at night, and people just saw a fast hedgehog running with a stolen chaos emerald. In Adventure 1, Sonic transformed into Super Sonic in front of thousands of people, Shadow's quills are in the shape of Super Sonic's at least similar enough to them. Lastly, it's not hard to think that normal everyday people who work a regular 9-5 job don't know how Chaos Emeralds work. So it's safe to assume that they could think he can change form with just a singular Chaos Emerald. I had a big brain moment for once.
My favorite piece of weird lore is the idea that Sonic may actually be the "original" Shadow and that Shadow was created by Gerald for GUN while he was in Prison... I can't remember how much of how I put it is just speculation, but there's little details actually in the game, like the Biolizard's roar being a combination of Sonic and Shadow's voices, Shadow telling Sonic that he thinks he may be the actual Ultimate Lifeform and of course, Sonic saying goodbye to Shadow in the same way Maria had fifty years ago.
You’re onto something. There was speculation that the echidnas having a prophecy showing a sparkly gold hedgehog fighting a giant Eggman looking bot. They believe Gerald Robotnik saw this and attempted to make the ultimate life form to look like that image. (Super sonic) which is why shadows quills stick up like super sonic. And the biolizard was meant to replicate the images they had of perfect chaos.
The master emerald was also far bigger than in SA1 so it would make sense that he is able to control its size, but it seems to need to be at a larger scale to use its powers properly. Another reason for GUN mistaking Sonic as shadow is that Shadow was a secret government project and revealing him would end up having their involvement of the ark brought to light.
@@jiggylookback it hasn't been, but whenever it was used it would always be at or near its largest size. Knuckles hasn't been showing really using it when it's at its smaller sizes from what I recall.

Nice list of misteries!, but you missed one that actually appear in almost all the Sonic games and is... How the characters can breathe in the outer space!?. I never could figure it out that one. 😂
LOL Sonic Canon is insane. If we went by the comics a lot of things would be different. Idk I feel you have to take the games for what they are separately.
Obviously Green Hill is on Earth? That's where the series takes place. As for Biolizard it likely was set up to be released due to Gerald's manipulation of things for when his plan would finally be put into motion. And G.U.N. likely knew that Sonic and Shadow were two different individuals considering they had Shadow in captivity. They were likely just blaming Sonic to keep the public from finding out what was going on related to them and potentially take Sonic in to get him to help them with their own plan for handling the situation.
While most fans would prefer the series is all on Earth, we have multiple statements from producers now that it doesn't and there's a separate "world" that is either a different planet or different dimension. It's fair to say that the classic games were on islsnds-- where those islands are doesn't necessarily match the world map here that already contradicts both older classic games and games released after this.
@edward18517 Assuming you obviously mean besides like, Rush and are speaking generally. We go from renditions of Sonic and Tails living in a cute neighborhood with a house shaped like Tail's head to a workshop surrounded by ruins. Games where humans don't even exist if they aren't named Eggman. We have world maps that never align in the slightest with one another. Visual continuity has fourth wall breaks and is joked about being bad in the series in Generations. I don't know how you're expecting it to work, that's just the series and explicit word from the producer. If you want the explicit "it's two worlds" then you're looking for Unleashed vs Sonic Forces and their nice full world maps and settings. These are explicitly two worlds, one has humans one does not. This was also when the producer said this. The bigger inconsistency by number of games is actually the Adventure games so the callout in the video is right, they merge them. Before Adventure, the big fan base argument was if the games take place on Mobius or on another planet. Answer is it's apparently never Mobius but varies by game of it's Earth or not. I like this merging as does most of the fan base and that tailstube episode suggests we will have more like it in the future, thankfully.
@@Zadck1 Just because humans don't show up in a game doesn't mean they don't exist in that world. Eggman alone is implication enough that there are humans. Throughout the classics there's never any indication that there's not, and certain ruins throughout the classics even have human statues in them at parts. For the map it's simply a lost cause to try to keep any consistency in the series. If you're going by "the map being different" as a reason for it to be "in another world", then numerous games would take place across multiple worlds because practically no maps line up throughout the series. Shadow The Hedgehog's map of the world and Unleashed's map of the world do not line up at all and those both have humans featured prominently in those games. For the "level select" maps, it's the same thing as Yoshi's Island. It'll look different depending on the game due to how the progression of levels is laid out. I do not go into a game expecting South Island to look exactly like it does in Sonic 2 for the Game Gear. I'd LIKE for it to, but I do not at all expect it to because the Sonic series does not keep that level of consistency on that level of detail. And yeah, in Generations they joke about that shit. Which is annoying as hell, because, in Japanese at least, it is not nearly as "poking-fun-at-itself" as the later American garbage is. I'm not sure why you'd even pay attention to the Mobius argument though. Mobius clearly was never part of the games to begin with. That's crap that the Western continuities came up with for the cartoon universes of the franchise.
@edward18517 Pretty much everything you just said is correct and I'm not sure what you're trying to actually debate? This isn't a canon discussion, which while Sonic's visual and setting continuity is broken the story canon mostly works outside of snares that happened with games developed at the same time like Battle GBA and Sonic Heroes. The question "what is the setting for this video game series" has the answer of "it depends on and changes by the game. Until Adventure it was an unspecified mostly natural environment that may have been the same non-Earth planets of other Sonic media at the time or not." With a secondary answer of "series story writers and directors have given a couple different explanations from a separate world or planet, to the classic areas all being distant islands." Saying "there's no consistency so it's Earth!" Doesn't work because we have nothing supporting any particular interpretation. But Adventure was the first time Earth was implied at all, and moved the location of many things like with Angel Island and Mystic Ruins and the maybe-intended-as-in-world-maybe-a-cameo Green Hill Zone this comment was about that as you say may be a level selection screen that's there for the sake of a game or may be a world map. Sonic Forces and Unleashed both contextualize their maps as being actual world maps, with Unleashed being themed around traveling the world and Forces showing it as a tactical battle map--those games are the only ones that clearly intend to show their world map as an in-world representation. GUN and other human major defense forces are just absent in forces though, and the statement was that that was intentional and not an oversight because separate world that the animal humanoids come from. Then, most recently, tailstube saying they all live on islands.
Did you not know the classic sonic games take place on earth? (Sonic cd takes place on earth for a little bit in the cutscenes and part of the first level of sonic cd cuz you run up then you are on it in my opinion)
According to the Sonic Bible by Sega of America it takes place on the planet Mobius. But the Adventure series is clearly on Earth. Idk it’s debatable. But I think this game confirms it :)
@@DodyStuff this is true! Sonic canon is all over the place 😂 Sonic team or Sega of America? Whatever gets me Adventure 3 and a chao garden I support haha
Yeah, seems like even those Formula One cars from Sonic X would be better, albeit not ideal. Well, I mean, how do you think he normally transports it? Be pretty awkward if he couldn't shrink it. Not like he has Decoe and Bocoe to carry it around for him. And you can even see Omochao in Sonic Heroes. (Seems like Lani Minella went in a little bit different direction with the voice acting, that time.) I don't know if he actually launched that missile. It looks to me like narratively, he had nothing to do with it, although in terms of gameplay, the countdown doesn't start until he lands on that structure. It's sort of like how, in Twilight Princess, you can see Hanch throwing rocks at a hive, and if you talk to him then, after you finish talking and walk away, he'll hit the hive, and bees will come out and chase him into the water. Is Link responsible for him getting stung? In-universe, probably not, but if you never talk to him, that never happens. I guess, but don't we see, like, the moon's mantle from earth afterward?
Exactly about the moon. Idk about the missile. It could have been coincidence but…we will never know. Still wondering where it goes even if Sonic didn’t launch it lol
The whole Sonic getting confused with Shadow thing was most likely a mistake because Shadow’s original design, or should I say, Terios, looked more like Sonic, so getting them confused made more sense.
How you gonna talk about 'why these upgrades just out there' and then the next segment (Sonic and Shadow) say 'cuz GAME LOGIC' Serio??! Look, no hate, I know you mean game logic as the reasoning of the plot/story/character/world building but I just had to say the reason why the upgrades are just there are the other side of game logic (mebbe the dark side if we doin a moon call out). Why are there loops out of nowhere? Why are rings floating there? It's a game. Game logic Again, no hate. I appreciate the sonic love
I feel some things can be explained in game like how Shadow and Sonic are confused for each other. But then like the upgrades are just sitting there and Omochao is often right next to them. It’s more of asking the question who put them there? Lol I appreciate you watching

True! Yet not underwater lol
They've breathed in outer space in every game, that's not a SA2 thing
2:26 he can change the size as it has been stated in the comics which are technically canon
LOL Sonic Canon is insane. If we went by the comics a lot of things would be different. Idk I feel you have to take the games for what they are separately.
Pretty sure the truck is transporting the mech for the first boss fight.
2:57 Hero Chao (Look top right)

“Well that’s gone forever.” - Knuckles
What about Terios?
@@KShelton3 l mean not much other then it was shadows original design and would make a lot more sense why people confuse him for Sonic.

Aw, Yeah! This is happenin! But seriously this is easily one of the greatest games of all time and easily the best Sonic game
I actually agree. It’s definitely up there!! For sure in Sonic’s library!
Maybe the Master Emerald being big keeps the island afloat.
Perhaps!
@@Zadck1 how does them being on Earth contradict any of the games? There is no game where it shows or implies it being two different worlds.
Until Adventure it was an unspecified mostly natural environment that may have been the same non-Earth planets of other Sonic media at the time or not." With a secondary answer of "series story writers and directors have given a couple different explanations from a separate world or planet, to the classic areas all being distant islands."
Saying "there's no consistency so it's Earth!" Doesn't work because we have nothing supporting any particular interpretation.
I think the cops are racist against hedgehogs it's a shame that they got them mixed up racist so I guess all hedgehogs look the same😂😂😂😂
Did you not know the classic sonic games take place on earth? (Sonic cd takes place on earth for a little bit in the cutscenes and part of the first level of sonic cd cuz you run up then you are on it in my opinion)
According to the Sonic Bible by Sega of America it takes place on the planet Mobius. But the Adventure series is clearly on Earth.
Idk it’s debatable. But I think this game confirms it :)
@@jiggylookback yoo you replied, but I thought the sonic Bible was created by the Americans and sonic team was originally based in japan
@@DodyStuff this is true! Sonic canon is all over the place 😂 Sonic team or Sega of America? Whatever gets me Adventure 3 and a chao garden I support haha
I dont think Sonic had anything to do with that missle. Thats why theres a timer. Timers up and you lost your chance to hitch a ride
(Seems like Lani Minella went in a little bit different direction with the voice acting, that time.)
I don't know if he actually launched that missile.
I personally think that omochao was made by Gerald Robotnik
@@SADXGamer4 could be. I don’t see why not, but seems strange it would be on the planet and helpful. But who knows
The whole Sonic getting confused with Shadow thing was most likely a mistake because Shadow’s original design, or should I say, Terios, looked more like Sonic, so getting them confused made more sense.
We don't talk about that
That’s true. But they still went for it
Do you think you will make a video on mysteries in Sonic Adventure ?

How you gonna talk about 'why these upgrades just out there' and then the next segment (Sonic and Shadow) say 'cuz GAME LOGIC' Serio??!
Look, no hate, I know you mean game logic as the reasoning of the plot/story/character/world building but I just had to say the reason why the upgrades are just there are the other side of game logic (mebbe the dark side if we doin a moon call out). Why are there loops out of nowhere? Why are rings floating there? It's a game. Game logic
Again, no hate. I appreciate the sonic love
I feel some things can be explained in game like how Shadow and Sonic are confused for each other.
But then like the upgrades are just sitting there and Omochao is often right next to them. It’s more of asking the question who put them there?
Lol I appreciate you watching
