HAY DOUG, I BET IT WILL LOOK GREAT WHEN YOU'RE DONE. YOU ALLWAYS DO A GREAT JOB. FROM DOUG
Fingers crossed! Thank you Doug
Holy crap, when it went flying off, that scared the crap out of me!!! 😱
Can’t wait to see the finished product!!!
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻❤️❤️❤️
Thank you Samantha, LOL you think it scared you
Can’t wait to see it finished. Sorry it’s been such a frustrating project. The seaweed looks like it’s going to be really beautiful in there, it’s just too bad it’s fighting you every step of the way. I love the colors, they’re perfect with the seaweed. Great job sticking with it, sometimes you really just want to set them aside! Or worse case.. use it for target practice!😆 It’s going to be gorgeous!
Fingers crossed! Thank You Funo
Wow. That’s a labour of love mate! I applaud your persistence!!! If it didn’t promise so much it would end up on a shelf!! Well done mate!!
Thank You Pete, yeah it's almost made it's way to the fire pit a few times now
Man, the fact that you can laugh when it flies off the lathe! The colors are fantastic, and I hope the rest goes better!
Thank you Beth, really that was my evil laugh thinking I was finally going to be able to stop working on this POS, lol
Good luck Doug, it’s been a fighter. Have a great weekend.
Thanks, you too!
Wow Doug that sucks for sure tore up so tools. Have a great weekend ✌️
Thank You Larry
The blade marks make it look like rough seas!! It will be a gorgeous piece!!
Thank you Bella
What an effort Doug, I gotta admit that I had a quiet chuckle watching you chase the lathe across the workshop. You are one brave man lol.
Glad you enjoyed it, Thank you Pia
Love your new puppies! Had to watch the video 2x because I couldn't get enough!
😊 thank you Becky
You are working really hard on the bowl and you kept going nice color see you next time and have a great week you and those beautiful puppies
Thank You Thank You Thank You Lizzzzzzzzzzzzzz
Hi Doug! I need to say first that you have SO much patience, I absolutely love the colors you chose for this bowl, and not trying to sound stupid (I'm still a new turner), I really appreciate you showing and talking about the problems that you encountering, especially this one. I truly believe, like many others do, that this piece will be breathtaking when you are finished! I had to laugh when you used the grinder. I can relate to that with an epoxy table I made 2 years ago. I can't wait to see how this turns out! Thank you so very much for your videos!!!!!
Thank you Lori, sometimes that epoxy after curing is ROCK DAMN hard I tell ya.
Doug your persistence is a credit to you Sir, I wait in anticipation of the finished piece. It is going to be great 🤞🤞
Thank You Douglas, if I can get it finished I think it will be too
Never a bad idea to pivot when things don't go as planned. The ocean is so beautiful!
Thank You, I've almost thrown in into the fire pit a couple times now,
You can do it Doug! Can hardly wait to see your finished project!!!!😊 Gonna be beautiful.
Thank you Kimberly, lets hope so
It's so cool that came out of the ocean! Mixy Mixy! Wow those colours are amazing! Wow cool view on the roughing gouge. I love it when you show the up close views! I cant wait to see how it looks after the carving! Thanks for sharing, Douggggggggggggg!!!!!!
Thank You Robinnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn
I can’t wait to see it finished. I love the colors chosen!
Thank You Anna
Wow, that looked rough. Looking forward to part II and seeing the final product. I'll wager it's going to be gorgeous. Also, loved the resin colors you chose.
Thank you Michael,
Definitely looks like a challenging project; I can see how those shells and other sea detritus wreak havoc on tools. Your approach with the grinder makes a lot of sense. Really like the way the resin looked after you cast it. Looking forward to the next installment.
Thank you Mark, it feels like a fire pit project if you ask me but I'm gonna stick it out until I can make it happen any longer
I saw the title and said "This is gonna be a good one" to my husband as I read it aloud. I expected bowls flying off, sharp pieces of resin scything through the air inconveniencing passing squirrels and removing their tails, and general death doom and destruction. And that is pretty much what I got, along with your happy chuckles!
The colors of the sky and the earth on the bottom of the block when you first unmolded it was gorgeous. I wish you had opted to cut off an inch thick slice from the bottom so that you could make it into a platter maybe. I'm looking forward to the final results. Better tell your friend to buy more tools meanwhile!
Thank You JoAnn, that was my EVIL Laugh ! thinking I was done working on this (**%^&%$&^%#^% ! lol But NOPE not at all screwed up enough to stop working on it, the bottom was not flat at all,
Wow those colours pop with the sanding sealer. It’s going to be spectacular ❤
Thank You Ratchel, it needs a lot of work yet and I hope it stays together so we can all find out
Hi Doug. That was rough, but I am sure you will get it sorted out. It will be beautiful. 😊
Thank You Rob, I am sure I will too !!!!!!!!
Doug this will be an interesting process. Watching your machine vibrate so much makes me wonder if it will survive this project. Seeing the bowl disappear so fast shocked me. Yikes! Glad you are not hurt and the bowl looks relatively intact. I can see this will be a challenge for you, but having seen you work your magic is enough to know you will persevere and come out victorious! I am a lover of blue, so the colors you have chosen are my favorites. I can’t wait to see the finished product when you have it done in your time. Until then have a great weekend! See you next Friday!
I hope so, Thanks for watching Linda
Doug, wowzers, this one is TOUGH to watch. I can see the struggle you are dealing with and man, I appreciate your determination. I do like the color combination though. Can't wait to see the final result
Thank You Steve, it's almost gone in the fire pit a few times now !
Perseverance Ed, I am sure it is going to turn out beautiful.
Thank You JACK !
It's going to be really interesting once you finish it, Doug. I'm looking forward to it. Rick Morris had a problem with the weld breaking on a Technatool tool rest. Seems to be a trend.
Thank you Bill
Mate, totally feel your pain with this turning. It is fighting you every step. reminds me of the line from galaxy Guest with Tim Allen. Never give in, never surrender. Can't wait to see it finished.
Thank you Bruce, yeah it's been brutal for sure,
My heart is out for you Doug ❤! I feel for your frustrations and your poor tools ❤😢…. But I’m excited to see however this will turn out to look like ❤❤❤❤
Thank You Thank You it should look great if I can get it finished
Bon courage! I suggest that next time you do this, you vacuum out the shells, sand, etc, as much as possible, before you begin. It could make a useful decrease in the rate of tool blunting, and painful missiles!
I really like your resin colours!
Thank You Stephanie, I tried blowing the dirt and crap out with compressed air, that didn't work either,
Commendable perseverance, Doug. Between the unbalanced piece, the calcium and the thermal cracks, you have a challenge, there.
Next on my watch list is Rod, who I believe is also carving a bowl, instead of turning, this week. Take care!
Right, I seen Ken Moon did some carving this week also, Thank You Jay
Wow! You’ve had pieces fight you before, but o don’t remember anything fight back so hard. I’m sure all of us are curious about the new tools you have coming and if they will do the job. If the do this is going to be a BEAUTIFUL bowl. Pulling for you Dougie.
Thank you Douggie, it's almost made it's way to the fire pit more than once now, they've just arrived so I'm about to try em out
Well, never seen so much stuggle before. ;)) It's like turning diamant. But I am glad there was 30 minutes of fun to watch already. I guess it is my fault Doug, because I once told you I like longer videos. I hope there is time to relax alittl, my friend. Have a good weekend. 👍👍👍
Thank you Thank you
Wow, that’s some hard turning! Looking forward to seeing how you solve the issue. Thanks, Doug!
Thank you Derek
I'm sure it'll be "Worth The Effort" in the end👍 Keep Goin' Brother!
Thank you Steve, until I can't manage to save it
Wowzers! That’s crazy! Hang in there! It’s gonna be great!
Thank you Karen
Even though it was a massive PITA, the colors are awesome together. Can’t wait to see what you come up with to carve this super tough bowl! Regards!
This is a battle of wills! I believe you will prevail and the result will be beautiful. Can't wait to see how you go about this.
Thank you Leigh, I've almost given up a couple time now,
I’d love to have some of that stuff to cast and try to make a pen with. You have patience. Awesome as always.
Thank you so much 😀 LOL I made a couple pen black with it and had the same issues,
Nice start Doug
Thank You Scott
It's another one of the frustrating pieces that I'm sure will turn out great, just like your other ones. Can't wait to see the end product!! 👍👍
Fingers crossed! Thank you Scott
You can do it 👍. Cheers Doug
I sure hope so, Thanks again for watching
I can’t wait to see this one all done. Thank you for sharing.
You are so welcome Patrick!
Hello. This realy must be frustrating for you. But in the end I know it will be a masterpeace. I have the same problem when i turn resin ,wood and bulet shels. I also destroy all my tools. So I know how frustrating is this. I wish you luck next week.😊😊😊 Have a nice weekend
Thank You Thank You
Thank you for your willingness to to work on this difficult project. From my perspective it is looking like good progress is being made even though it is slow going. I am looking forward to the next video on this project.
Thank you Jason, Slow is an understatement !
Doug, it has turned out to be a pane in the asss for you mate but you know what I think in the end its going to be a smashing piece, keep at it buddy cant wait to see the end result.
Thank you Alan, it looks pretty good now I must say
Man that looks like a rough turning material. Can't wait to see what you end up with. The wood and resin look great.
Thank you Greg, it's been challenging to say the least
Very interesting definitely looking forward to seeing a carving 😮❤
Thank You Maddie
Good luck Doug! What a frustrating project and tool mangler, but I'm sure you'll persevere and it will come out a.o.k. as usual. Love the colors
Thank You Denise, Fingers crossed!
What a process. It's going to look amazing
Thank You Jennifer, I hope so
I can’t wait to see it finished
Thank You Glenn
Sorry, I'm 7 months LATE but where IS THE FINAL PIECE?!? 😘
Oh my, Doug. I'm surprised it didn't break when it came off the lathe. I'm curious to see what you end up doing with this one. 💜
Thank you Tracey, hopefully I can get it finished
Slow and steady wins the race. As a suggestion a Kutzall extreme shaping disc or and original shaping dish would hog out more resin and wood. They are not cheap but they work. Looking forward to next week. Have a good weekend.
Thank You, yes I priced them at around $100 at our local woodworking store, I passed it up and ordered cheap ones off of amazon, lol hope they hold up
@PohlBarnProductions totally understand they are not cheap. No doubt you will get it done you always do.
Man, what a fight! It's going to be beautiful when you beat it, though. Because we know you will! Sometimes you just want them to be done. lol Can't wait to see the finished product.
Thank you, I wanted it to be done when it came off and I made that evil Laugh !!!!!!!!!
good luck buddy! can't wait to see the next video.
Thank You Frank, Fingers crossed!
Looking good so far.
I think so too! Thank you Chris, that was Sarcasm ! lol
@@PohlBarnProductions I wasn't being sarcastic
no but I was !!!!!!!! lol
Sorry this magnificent bowl is giving you such a hard time but oh man, I can't wait to see the finished product bc I see pure beauty in this one! Bet this is a month long project isn't it❓
Thank You Rebekka, I sure hope not ! I don't think it would make it past next week if I had very many more issues with it
@@PohlBarnProductions 🤣🤣🤣👍🏻 I wish you luck with this bowl 🥣 bc I know it will turn out beautiful and can't wait to see it finished!
Oh my it's like you are trying to turn concrete 🙈 hope the new tools help.
Love sea look though so relaxing to look at.
Thank You Laura, it sure feels like concrete !
Good luck man, that looks like one of the most difficult turns I've seen you do. Next week ought to be very interesting... Enjoy the snow later today and your weekend.
Thank You Harold, you are getting that SNOW TOO ! lol
You have the patience of a Saint 👍
Thank you Anthony, LOL NO I DO NOT !
i know it’s gonna look badass when it’s done! RIP too all those carbide tips, they died valiantly
Thank You Dan, they almost died instantly ~!!
Omg it’s going to be beautiful
Thank you Laura, I hope so
you did it again! another cliffhanger!
That thing is making you work for it, but I'm sure you will turn out a beauty
Thank You Luie, yeah but wait till next week when Zombie turns his ! LOL
Good morning Doug
Morning Liz
Golly, Doug, that thing is working you hard. It is going to be beautiful when it is done, I'm sure of that. Zed, set you up hahahaha
Thank you Jane, lol Zed set himself up, he also has one to turn
@@PohlBarnProductions can't wait to see that one !
No wonder you were Zeb the other day, you needed a break. I can not wait to see the finished product and what Zeb makes.
Thank You Jack, I really needed to talk to Zed but he was MIA
Good luck. The colors are awesome.
Thank you Laura!
Blimey Doug this looks like a real pain in the butt, I bet it does turn out to be a right stunner 👍🏻
Thank You Steve, you know it is !!!!!!!!!
Dagum Doug. I got my version. I have never worked so hard on a bowl. seriously if all Resin is like this then My hat is off to all the Resin Rangers out there.
stay tuned. my video should be out shortly. ha ha.
You know it Zed, basically the longer it sits the harder it gets, mine sat for a long time too and the shells and dirt did not help it any, keep in touch we have to coordinate out video's as I have one just for yours, will be my second ever Premiere !!!!!!!!!!
One of the hardest but will be beautiful .
Thank you Eduardo, I hope so
It looks like a good beginning - looking forward to seeing how it turns out. Just remember, there are no mistakes ... just happy accidents
Thank You Qapla, I will try to keep that in mind
The end result will be well worth it I’m sure👍
Thank you Mikk, I hope so
What a pita if it hadn’t been so perty I might have had to see what buckshot would do to it. I admire your persistence my friend
Thank you, Buck Shot, I think a slug would work much better
Well, it's definitely kicking your butt, but it will be pretty once you get it finished!
Thank You Billy, I haven't lost yet !
That looks like work 😂 bet it will look nice when done love the colors
Thank You JJE, I sure hope so
cant wait till next week
Thank you Herbie
Just watched this a year after the event. Did you ever manage to finish it? If you did can you point me to a video or something showing the finished item. I’m absolutely not a wood turner, but used to watch my father turning when I was a child. Videos coming across my YT feed have rekindled my interest.
I did finish it Sylvia, here is the link for it ua-cam.com/video/FM9ruEROkKw/v-deo.html, I think sent a blank with the same material to the guy that sent it to me, here is that link also ua-cam.com/video/9CnSHOa9FLU/v-deo.html
@@PohlBarnProductions thanks for the links. They both turned out beautifully in the end, but I’m glad I’m just the armchair warrior. 😊
Is the flying saucer season open?
GooD)))))))
They are Out there and I believe !!!!!!!!!! thanks again for watching Meront
I was waiting for a creature to crawl out of that stuff once the resin hit…..😂
Doug this one is worrying me, I love the colours but it's not sitting right, please be careful, love you to bits.😘😘 💋💋 for Annie's pups.
Sorry about that, thank you Ellen, Annies pups are up tonight on the other channel, they are a week old today and doing great
I would love a whole set of tools with that handle. Im a Michigan girl and I love hunting.
Thank You Shannon, That's Awesome !!!!!!!!!!!!
Can't wait!
Thank You Dianne
I was watching your video when I started to add this question/comment "I'm always surprised you can get away with a mortise on that heavy of a piece. Especially this piece the mortise looked a bit punky.".
As soon as I wrote this the piece flew off the lathe 😂 ( not 😂 at you 😂 at the timing)
Yes I push my luck all the time ! but I like to use a mortise over a Tenon! Thanks again for watching
👋🏻🌻🇺🇲🙂👍
Omg that blue is so vibrant!!!
Thank You Linda
What if you were to drill a series of holes into the wood and fill with resin to try balance it out that way ? Best of luck with it, looks great so far
Thank You Paul, I actually considered that but was afraid the beating of the tools over the empty holes back to the resin would blow the piece apart
Soak in vinegar to soften. I remember Kim sent you sea shells once...I don't remember exactly what I said there...but also made some suggestions...if you needed them.
Thank You Morgan, to late for all that now !
@@PohlBarnProductions LOL...I know. No, for future sea shells or sea weed.
You still have some sea weed left over...why not do a comparison thing? If you want the living critters out, freeze the sea kelp solid for a few days and then that out completely. As it's thawing out, the water will hopefully dissolve any dirt. The stuff you get out can be fertilizer for the garden. Of course, there's also a You Tube video called 'Wood Turning Seaweed' by 'Cook Woodworks'.
According to Wikipedia:
Holdfast torn from the sea floor by a storm
'A holdfast is a root-like structure that anchors aquatic sessile organisms, such as seaweed, other sessile algae, stalked crinoids, benthic cnidarians, and sponges, to the substrate.[1]
Holdfasts vary in shape and form depending on both the species and the substrate type. The holdfasts of organisms that live in muddy substrates often have complex tangles of root-like growths. These projections are called haptera and similar structures of the same name are found on lichens. The holdfasts of organisms that live in sandy substrates are bulb-like and very flexible, such as those of sea pens, thus permitting the organism to pull the entire body into the substrate when the holdfast is contracted. The holdfasts of organisms that live on smooth surfaces (such as the surface of a boulder) have flattened bases which adhere to the surface. The organism derives no nutrition from this intimate contact with the substrate, as the process of liberating nutrients from the substrate requires enzymatically eroding the substrate away, thereby increasing the risk of organism falling off the substrate.
The claw-like holdfasts of kelps and other algae differ from the roots of land plants, in that they have no absorbent function, instead serving only as an anchor.[2]'
That is a booger bear! But I bet it is gonna be beautiful when you’re done.
Thank you Lynda, I sure hope so
WOW…this is really munching up the tools. You may need to alert air traffic control in your area, to look out for slithers of resin and low flying bowls. I wonder if there is anything from the ocean, that once dried, doesn’t destroy tools? Also another question, do you test the moisture content of the wood before you set it in resin? Looking forward to Part II. 🙂
Thank You Fiona, I do test the moisture actually, I just do not show it, I get sent wood all the time that is to wet to put resin on, so I have to wait for them to dry out
The seaweed reminds me of European Gorse Bush, wonder if that would be kinder to your tools?
Have you ever put one in the trash? I would have done thrown it away. You are way more persistent than me. Love your videos.
Thank You Billy, I have set them on the shelf and I've even sent one down to Ken Moon, LOL can't wait to see what he's done with it, but never thrown one out yet, I've also just put them back into another project
Do you ever collect the shaving and recycle it into another piece? I can see several animals before u started to carving it. Snow bear, a huge storm a blooming. Another great piece 😮
Thank You Libby, I do and I have a few recycled resin ribbons project on my channel
Ooh Dougie this is intriguing...how will the piece be completed? A real cliffhanger! 😅👍
Thank You Jude
Hi Doug,I know this may sound odd but I love the look of the top of that. Can you carve the bottom?
Thank You Lola, not anymore
Oh, just get started...
Thank You Libby, this stuff takes patience
Lord Almighty !!! That is a Piece of work😰 It still looks Beautiful though. Good Luck & Be Careful 😎👍
Thank You Heather, I hope it will stay together long enough to get it finished
The monster rears its head huh? Take good care Doug.
Thank You Mel,
Put a rubber plug in the bottom and you can use air to blow it out
Thank you Robert,
wow those chips have gotta hurt well done for not throwing it out the door
Thank you Susan, some times they do hurt other times I'm like how did I get all those bruises on my hands
@@PohlBarnProductions i know that feeling too well lol
Looks like an earth like planet.
Thank You Matt
😉👍
Thank You franklin
Lathe Wander can be reduced by either bolting the feet to the concrete or placing a 50+ Lbs. bag on each foot...
That might help reduce your Blood Pressure when dealing with unbalanced pieces in the future...
😄😁😆😅😂🤣
Thank You, I know this
See you on part 2
Thank you Jean
