Nice car. I had the Daimler Sovereign in the UK back in the eighties. It was an old car even then. Now have a '63 3.8 Mk 2 with an oil pressure issue which brought me to your useful videos.
I filled the sump and the filter housing with 20/50's and attached a manual gauge to the sender fitting. Turning the engine over briefly on the starter with the plugs out gives no reading. Does the oil pump drain over time and need priming or should I just turn it over for a minute on the starter?
Of course I now have to strip the carbs again to do the puff test! Every day's a school day.

I have a similar issue on a MK2 but not sure it is the same thing. Been through the same process as you. Were there any times when the noise changed when driving. Hot/cold, under load or trailing throttle. Thanks

i got the same thing on a series 3 xj6, starts up after the motor warms up 2-5 mins on the exhaust side.

They'll always be a bit tappety. But if one is really loud it might be worth looking into. Series 3 EFI engines are known for tappet guides moving because they run so much hotter than carburettor'd cars. Might be worth having a look.
